Book The Students Cotton Spinning Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Students Cotton Spinning Classic Reprint written by Joseph Nasmith and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Students' Cotton Spinning The present edition has been in great part rewritten, and has been entirely reset from new type, the number of illustrations having also been doubled. Owing to the great length of the book, that portion of it which appeared in the preceding editions and dealt with the construction and engineering of mills has been omitted. The subject has, however, been much more fully treated in the authors Recent Cotton Mill Construction and Engineering. Among the new features will be found a complete series of illustrations of the growth and structure of the cotton fibre; a treatment of the hopper feeding machine; a section dealing with card clothing, in which, for the first time, the constructive details are fully discussed; a complete description of the Heilmann combing machine with full illustrations; and a long demonstration of the principle of winding on the roving frame and mule, the treatment of the latter portion of the subject being, in parts, quite new. In addition to these features the commerce of cotton is fully dealt with, the aim being to make the book a reliable reference on all points comprised within its title. In order to aid the object named a synopsis is given at the head of each chapter, and the index is also enlarged. The drawings, showing the structure of the Cotton Fibre, Figs.6 to 34 inclusive, are the work of Mr. Abraham Flatters, 16, Church Road, Longsight, Manchester, and are copyrighted by him. The two preceding editions each consisting of 2, 000 copies have been very favourably received, and the author has confidence that the efforts made to render the present one even more complete will meet with equal encouragement. Book Cotton Spinning

Download or read book Cotton Spinning written by Thomas Thornley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cotton Spinning: First Year Following on the same lines, another most impor tant development took place some four years ago in the splitting up of cotton spinning and cotton weaving each into three stages. Speaking now of cotton spinning alone, a first year student under existing arrangements is only taken to the end of the carding eug1ne, and a second year student is only taken to the end of the actual spinning process. There 1s evidently a very wide contrast between the course of study of a first year student ln cotton spinning at the present time, and that of a similar student pr1or to 1889. In passing, the author may express it as his own individual opinion that some time in the near future the accredited authorities may possibly see their way to extend the scheme of study, so that textile diplomas or degrees may be granted. Quite recently a step in the right direction has been taken by the appointment of Mr. John Crompton to be Inspector of Cotton Spinning and Weaving Classes under the City and Guilds of London Institute. Mr. Crompton is the present Examiner for Cotton Weaving, and acted personally as a leading teacher of weaving for many years. Occupying also an important position in the industry he is in close touch and sympathy with the movement. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook to Cotton Spinning: Compiled for the General Use of Young Carders, Spinning Overlookers, and All Students of Cotton Spinning The first thing the reader should do in practice is to see that all the machinery be well balanced and all shafts as true as possible if the machines are not so, there is a continual shaking and vibrating of the machines, which will soon run them down and add to the work of the engine. The blowing-room machinery Should be kept well Oiled, clean, and in proper order, on account Of the high speed; the same with the cardroom and Spinning machinery. If the rollers are not kept nicely Oiled, clean, and in proper order, they will cut the Sliver and yarn, and therefore bad work and dissatisfaction will be the result; but by attending to these little but important matters, he does not see much difficulty in working machinery satisfactorily. Download or read book Cotton Spinning Vol 3 Classic Reprint written by William Scott Taggart and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-20 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cotton Spinning, Vol. 3 IN the two previous volumes the preparing processes in cotton spinning have been fully treated. In this volume the subject of spinning and the preparation of yarns is treated in an equally exhaustive manner, with, I trust, an avoidance of some defects that existed in the earlier books. In a work of this kind, which covers so much ground and deals with many features upon which other men have written, it is perhaps unnecessary to suggest that originality is a difficult matter to obtain in one's treatment of the subject. In my efforts to do so I may have, occasionally but unconsciously, adopted similar methods of other writers 5 when such has been pointed out to me I have tried, and I hope successfully, to prevent this being an offence, and I sincerely trust that readers and writers alike will find in my efforts a desire to simply present the study of cotton spinning in an interesting and instructive manner, so that it may prove of value to those whose well-being is dependent on the success of that part of the industry it represents. Book Cotton Spinning Classic Reprint

Download or read book Cotton Spinning Classic Reprint written by A. S. Wade and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cotton Spinning In all the publications the purely technical aspects Of the industry were not dealt with. Except where essential, there being at all times a full supply of technical works 'on cotton subjects for those engaged in carrying on the industry. My aim was and is to present views of a great industry in such a way as to bring home to the general reader the preponderating position amongst the manufacturing nations of the world held by the British Cotton Industry, and at the same time to describe the industry as a whole in a way that does not come within the scope Of a treatise Of a technical character. The volume, written by Mr. A. S. Wade, deals with this Wider View of the cotton industry. In his interesting 'survey he very rightly does not forget either the romance, the vastness, or the intricacy Of his subject. It is a book which should be read widely, for it seems to me to fill a gap in cotton industry literature and contains the most recently published statistics. My hope is that other industries, through this valuable series Of books, may be treated with equal efficiency.
