Book The Peer Support Program

Download or read book The Peer Support Program written by Peer Support Foundation (N.S.W.) and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peer Support is an experiential learning program based on the principle that, at every level and in every age group in society, people absorb information and values from each other. The Peer Support Program aims at ensuring that this information is valuable and the ideas are sound. The Peer Support Program educates young people so that they are more able to resist negative peer pressure, to care for each other and to follow a healthy life style. Peer support and positive peer influence are introduced into the school community by training volunteer senior students to act as group leaders to a group of junior students. Many of the exercises are common to a number of training approaches and social and personal exercises. The principles upon which they are based can be adapted for differing purposes and circumstances. Teachers and students can develop further adaptations and new ideas for their specific projects. The aim of the Peer Support Program for Primary Schools is to encourage positive relationships within a school community and to develop communication, self esteem and group work skills through participation in small, friendly peer support groups.
