Book The Structural Stability of Welds in Columbium Alloys

Download or read book The Structural Stability of Welds in Columbium Alloys written by R. E. Yount and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aging studies of the three weld conditions were essentially completed and the aging kinetics compared. The B-66 .125 inch thick sheet was received and the evaluation of the effect of thickness initiated. Several conclusions have developed. (1) Interdendritic spacings of the weld metal are more strongly influenced by power input and cooling rate during welding than by chemical composition. (2) As-welded bend transition is dependent on welding speed. The faster the speed the lower the bend transition temperature for the condition studied. (3) The kinetics of aging in the temperature range of 1600 - 2200F is strongly influenced by interdendritic spacing, hence by weld parameters. The larger the interdendritic spacing the more sluggish the aging reaction. (4) A double aging reaction has been found in the B-66 alloy, one which occurs in the weld zone and a second which involves the heat affected zone. (Author).

Book Refractory Metal Alloys Metallurgy and Technology

Download or read book Refractory Metal Alloys Metallurgy and Technology written by I. Machlin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication documents Proceedings of the Symposium on Metal lurgy and Technology of Refractory Metal Alloys, held in Washington, D.C. at the Washington Hilton Hotel on April 25-26, 1968, under sponsorship of the Refractory Metals Committee, Institute of Metals Division, of the Metallurgical Society of AIME, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The Symposium presented critical reviews of selected topics in refractory metal alloys, thereby contributing to an in-depth understanding of the state-of-the-art, and establishing a base line for further research, development, and application. This Symposium is fifth in a series of conferences on refractory metals, sponsored by the Metallurgical Society of AlME. Publications issuing from the conferences are valuable technical and historical source books, tracing the evolution of refractory metals from early laboratory alloying studies to their present status as useful engineering materials. Refractory metals are arbitrarily defined by melting point. A 0 melting temperature of over 3500 F was selected as the minimum for this Symposium, thus excluding chromium and vanadium, which logically could be treated with other refractory metals in Groups VA and VIA of the periodic table. The Refractory Metals Committee is planning reviews of chromium and vanadium in subsequent conferences.

Book Theory of Weldability of Metals and Alloys

Download or read book Theory of Weldability of Metals and Alloys written by Ivan Hrivňák and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1992 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the behaviour of metals and alloys during welding. In the first part the heat flow in arc welding processes is discussed. The weld thermal cycle is explained in terms of heat input, and the geometry of weld and thicknesses to be welded. The real welding cycle is described in terms of thermal and strain cycles. The weld metal is characterized in terms of fusion stage, absorption of gases and stage of metal crystallization and structural transformation. The metallurgical background of cracking is described by a full set of crackability tests along with the evaluation of metals from the point of view of crackability. Post welding heat treatment is reviewed, and includes the relaxation of stresses induced by welding. Guidelines are given for the selection of steels for welded structures. Several chapters examine the weldability of particular steels, including high strength steels, stainless steels, high alloyed steels, cryogenic steels and other metals and alloys. The theories are quantified in the form of calculations or computing programmes. Readers will find sufficent data for software processing.
