Book THE STRATEGY The Art of War The Prince 2 Classics in One Edition

Download or read book THE STRATEGY The Art of War The Prince 2 Classics in One Edition written by Niccolò Machiavelli and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2017-10-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This eBook presents 2 Political Masterpieces by Niccolò Machiavelli: The Prince & The Art of War. The Prince: Il Principe (The Prince) is a political treatise by the Florentine philosopher Niccolò Machiavelli, written c. 1513, published posthumously 1532. The Prince is sometimes claimed to be one of the first works of modern political philosophy, in which the effective truth is taken to be more important than any abstract ideal. It was also in direct conflict with the dominant Catholic and scholastic doctrines of the time concerning how to consider politics and ethics. Machiavelli dedicated The Prince to the ruling Medici of the time, leading some today to still speculate whether the book was a satire. Niccolò Machiavelli asserted that The Prince (president, dictator, prime minister, etc.) does not have to be concerned with ethics, as long as their motivation is to protect the state. It is this questionable belief that in many ways had lead to the modern world as we know it. His assertion was that the head of state must protect the state no matter the cost and no matter what rules he or she breaks in the process. The Art of War: written between 1519 and 1520 and published in 1521. It was the only historical or political work printed during Machiavelli's lifetime. Voltaire said, "Machiavelli taught Europe the art of war; it had long been practiced, without being known." Machiavelli considered The Art of War his greatest achievement. This book teaches how to recruit, train, motivate, and discipline an army, shows the difference between strategy and tactics. Machiavelli does a masterful job of breaking down and analyzing historic battles.

Book excerpt: In 'THE STRATEGY: The Art of War & The Prince', Niccolò Machiavelli combines two timeless classics that delve into the realms of politics and military strategy. Machiavelli's writing style is characterized by its practicality and realism, offering insights into the nuances of leadership and the exercise of power. 'The Art of War' is a strategic guide that explores the tactics and principles necessary for success in battle, while 'The Prince' delves into the intricacies of political leadership and statecraft. Machiavelli's works are considered crucial in the development of political theory and have had a lasting impact on the study of power dynamics in society. Machiavelli, a diplomat and philosopher in Renaissance Italy, drew on his experiences to provide a nuanced analysis of political strategy and governance in 'THE STRATEGY'. His observations on leadership and power continue to be relevant in today's political landscape. I recommend 'THE STRATEGY: The Art of War & The Prince' to readers interested in gaining a deeper understanding of political theory and military strategy, as Machiavelli's insights remain timeless and thought-provoking.

Book excerpt: Two Masterpieces of tactics and strategy There have been few men so distinguished that their names have been embraced into the language, but the author of the two works in this special Leonaur edition is a notable and famous example. Everyone who is aware of Niccolo Machiavelli, the Renaissance Florentine founder of political science knows his name is a by-word for the real or 'devil's politics'-the ruthless system employed by most men and institutions of power and the practice of which is-naturally-roundly denied by all of them. Machiavelli was, in fact, a man of many other talents and parts. Poet, songwriter, civil servant, diplomat, playwright and philosopher. He held office in the Florentine Republic whilst the Medicis were out of power and wrote his masterpiece and most famous work, The Prince, on their return to Florence. Today, some 500 years later, Machiavelli's theories remain highly respected and are still studied by military men, politicians and those in business. Machiavelli's The Art of War-politics by other means-makes a fitting companion piece to The Prince in this new edition which will be a valuable addition to any library. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket; our hardbacks are cloth bound and feature gold foil lettering on their spines and fabric head and tail bands.

Book Sun Tzu and the Art of Business

Download or read book Sun Tzu and the Art of Business written by Mark McNeilly and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2012-01-26 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than two millennia ago the famous Chinese general Sun Tzu wrote the classic work on military strategy, The Art of War. Now, in a new edition of Sun Tzu and the Art of Business, Mark McNeilly shows how Sun Tzu's strategic principles can be applied to twenty-first century business. Here are two books in one: McNeilly's synthesis of Sun Tzu's ideas into six strategic principles for the business executive, plus the text of Samuel B. Griffith's popular translation of The Art of War. McNeilly explains how to gain market share without inciting competitive retaliation, how to attack competitors' weak points, and how to maximize market information for competitive advantage. He demonstrates the value of speed and preparation in throwing the competition off-balance, employing strategy to beat the competition, and the need for character in leaders. Lastly, McNeilly presents a practical method to put Sun Tzu's principles into practice. By using modern examples throughout the book from Google, Zappos, Amazon, Dyson, Aflac, Singapore Airlines, Best Buy, the NFL, Tata Motors, Starbucks, and many others, he illustrates how, by following the wisdom of history's most respected strategist, executives can avoid the pitfalls of management fads and achieve lasting competitive advantage.
