Book The Strange Symptoms and Challenges of Peripheral Neuropathy

Download or read book The Strange Symptoms and Challenges of Peripheral Neuropathy written by James M. Lowrance and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 100 types of PN have been identified, according to medical research organizations. This demonstrates the fact that each person will experience the physical results of damaged or diseased nerves, differently than do their fellow patients. Some people feel more of the burning sensation while others may feel very strong tingling that literally feels as if a colony of ants are stinging them simultaneously on their feet and/or legs. Some PN patients are affected exclusively within their feet and they may experience not only tingling and burning sensations within them but they may also feel stabbing pains as well. Others may feel pressure type sensations within their feet and/or their hands, as if they are swollen, when they are actually normal size and no fluid retention (edema) is present in them. Yet other PN sufferers may feel a tightening-sensation within their extremities, as if they are wrapped tightly with spandex bandages or they are wearing tight-fitting socks or gloves. While PN can affect the upper and/or lower extremities, these are certainly not exclusive to the disease. The trunk of the body can also be involved and all organs inside the body can potentially be involved as well. This is usually the case with nerve damage or neurological diseases that are severe and widespread within the body (systemic) or that involve conditions such as fibromyalgia. This means that physical sensations may not be the only manifestation of PN but other signs of the disease can include hypo-functioning of bodily organs (the inadequate operation of them) and even a complete failure of them in extreme cases. This would include effects that can occur within the kidneys, the heart and the lungs. Within the the chapters, I discuss some of the challenges presented to PN patients, resulting from mild, moderate and severe PN symptom-manifestations. I will also relate some of my personal experiences with the disease as I continue through each chapter. I will not be discussing "causes" for the disease specifically in this particular written work but readers can find more about causes and treatments in my companion book titled: "Peripheral Neuropathy Causes and Treatments." To my surprise, of my approximate 75 published written works, my original peripheral neuropathy book, has been my largest seller since it was published in late 2010. This revealed to me that it addresses a very common and rapidly-growing health problem. My purpose for this new book/eBook is to help patients with PN conditions know that they are not alone with the sometimes strange and unusual symptoms of their disease, and to help those with friends or loved ones who are sufferers, understand how diverse and sometimes severe symptoms of nerve-related diseases can actually be. TABLE OF CONTENTS (Book Length - Approx 4,129 Words): CHAPTER ONE: The Burning and Tingling of PN CHAPTER TWO: Distinguishing PN from Fibromyalgia CHAPTER THREE: Numbness and Proprioception (A Sense of Body Position) CHAPTER FOUR: Diabetic "Autonomic Neuropathies" Affecting Bodily Organs and Systems SUBTITLES: *The Effects of Temperature Changes on PN *Negative Nerve Pressure: Impingement *In My Own Case of PN *Restless Leg Syndrome *Where Pain and Other Symptoms Originate between PN and FMS *The Adrenal Factor *Slow Healing of Wounds (Usually the Feet) *Carpal Tunnel Syndrome *Injuries from Falls *Functions of the Autonomic Nerves *Symptoms and Manifestations of Autonomic Neuropathy (AN) *Case-Examples of Severe AN *The "Monster Disease" in Patients Who Defy Their PN Treatments

Book My Personal Peripheral Neuropathy Story

Download or read book My Personal Peripheral Neuropathy Story written by James M. Lowrance and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-10-19 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to reputable medical sources, there are more than 100 identified types of Peripheral Neuropathies (PN) that are experienced by between 15 and 30 million people in the U.S. and at least 130 million people, globally (statistics vary somewhat among sources). While there is such a large number of PN types, all of these conditions boil down to one thing...nerve damage resulting in pain or failure of them to function properly. Nerves become changed with PN, in their reactions to pain and other physical sensations, which can also cause muscle weakness and potential dysfunction in major organs and systems of the body, once being damaged by disease processes. In this book (approximately 4,320 Words), I share my own story regarding my personal experiences with PN, as a thyroid disease and diabetic patient; my also having experienced other negative metabolic manifestations. These include fatty liver disease and vitamin deficiencies, that were contributing factors in my case of nerve disease.CONTENTS:Heading 1: Chronic Stress Plays a Role in the Development of PNHeading 2: When My Symptoms Finally “Hit the Fan” So-To-SpeakHeading 3:One Major Disease Diagnosed and Two More To Go!________________________________________{See my other books on the PN subject by title}:“Peripheral Neuropathy Causes and Treatments” (Published Year-2011)“The Strange Symptoms and Challenges of Peripheral Neuropathy” (Published Year-2013)

Book Peripheral Nerve Disorders

Download or read book Peripheral Nerve Disorders written by Gérard Said and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-08-17 with total page 1008 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disorders of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) are the cause of prominent neurological symptoms including weakness, sensory loss, pain and autonomic dysfunction associated with deficits, morbidity and mortality. These disorders may be primary hereditary or cryptogenic neurologic disorders confined to the PNS or part of the pathology of both the central nervous system and the PNS. Most PNS disorders are secondary to other system disorders and may be responsive to treatment of the primary disease. Important advances have been obtained in several areas including molecular genetics, biochemistry, immunology, morphology and physiology that have enhanced our understanding of the causes and consequences of damage to peripheral nerve. Understanding of both these groups of PNS diseases has greatly expanded over recent years and has led to important advances of treatment both to protect and to repair damages of peripheral nerve. This volume provides an overview of the state-of-the-art of examination, diagnosis and treatment of these very diverse disorders and will be of interest to both the research and clinical neuroscience and neurology communities. Covers both hereditary and cryptogenic neurologic disorders Includes advances in the basic science of PNS from molecular genetics, biochemistry, immunology, morphology and physiology Detailed coverage of neuropathy in connective tissue disorders, infectious disorders, metabolic disorders and malignancy

Download or read book Multiple Sclerosis written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2001-08-10 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and often disabling disease of the nervous system, affecting about 1 million people worldwide. Even though it has been known for over a hundred years, no cause or cure has yet been discovered-but now there is hope. New therapies have been shown to slow the disease progress in some patients, and the pace of discoveries about the cellular machinery of the brain and spinal cord has accelerated. This book presents a comprehensive overview of multiple sclerosis today, as researchers seek to understand its processes, develop therapies that will slow or halt the disease and perhaps repair damage, offer relief for specific symptoms, and improve the abilities of MS patients to function in their daily lives. The panel reviews existing knowledge and identifies key research questions, focusing on: Research strategies that have the greatest potential to understand the biological mechanisms of recovery and to translate findings into specific strategies for therapy. How people adapt to MS and the research needed to improve the lives of people with MS. Management of disease symptoms (cognitive impairment, depression, spasticity, vision problems, and others). The committee also discusses ways to build and financially support the MS research enterprise, including a look at challenges inherent in designing clinical trials. This book will be important to MS researchers, research funders, health care advocates for MS research and treatment, and interested patients and their families.

Book Management of Diabetic Foot Complications

Download or read book Management of Diabetic Foot Complications written by Clifford P. Shearman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-04 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public and political concern about the increasing prevalence of diabetes has prompted major concern about treatment of patients with the condition. Foot complications are some of the commonest causes of hospitalisation of people with diabetes and if not treated well often lead to amputation. There is evidence that 85% of these amputations can be prevented by better understanding of the problem and by multi-disciplinary teams working more effectively together. This has been recognised and NICE have recently published guidelines on diabetic foot complications as have Diabetes UK and NHS Diabetes. These have been successful in raising awareness of the problem but the local multi-disciplinary teams need clear practical advice on how to manage the foot in diabetes and deliver high quality care. With the current interest in improving outcomes for patients with foot complications this is an ideal time to make a practical evidence-based handbook available. This book will provide clear practical guidelines on how to manage all aspects of the foot in diabetes as well as an in-depth analysis of the most recent evidence. The book will be based on care pathways with algorithms for each section so it would be of practical value in any clinic in primary or secondary care. It will appeal to a wide range of health care professionals treating people with diabetes: vascular surgeons and trainees, orthopaedic surgeons, diabetes specialist nurses, podiatrists and tissue viability nurses.
