Book excerpt: Does saving your family’s honour trump personal happiness? Will the god be appeased if you overfeed him and not help the needy? Will the law protect the stray dog that tears an eight-year-old into shreds? Is a deceased manual scavenger just another statistic who risks his life for a cleaner future? In the voice of the common man, Bobby Sachdeva questions our everyday practices in an unorthodox manner in Stories of Us. From Rishi to Parth and Lata to Rajnath, the hard-hitting and honest narratives are sure to inspire the common person to rethink the values long etched in our belief system.

Book Nine Horrible Days the Story of the Kidnap of Archbishop Kattey

Download or read book Nine Horrible Days the Story of the Kidnap of Archbishop Kattey written by Ignatius Crosby Ogboru Kattey DD and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was like thick darkness during the day; not an eclipse that is predicted months and days ahead, but an unexpected event, very unexpected. The fact that one serves God Almighty does not exempt him from problems, suffering etc. Job in the Bible was a righteous man, yet, he had his own share of tribulations. It is in such situations that God demonstrates His power. Such situations can lead one to an extreme: either to adhere more closely to God, or to have doubts about God and His ability to perform. Archbishop Kattey slept on bare, wet ground for nine days and nine nights, under rains and sun surrounded by unknown and dangerous people, but in all these, he held steadfastly to his faith in God. Reptiles and wild animals seemed to avoid him. The world was praying for him. Archbishop Kattey summarises everything as “It’s all about God”.

Book Worrorra

Download or read book Worrorra written by Mark Clendon and published by University of Adelaide Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kimberley Arafuran language Worrorra was spoken traditionally on the remote coastline and precipitously beautiful hinterland between the Walcott Inlet and the Prince Regent River. The language described here is that attested by its last full speakers, Patsy Lulpunda, Amy Peters and Daisy Utemorrah. Patsy Lulpunda was a child when Europeans first entered her country in 1912, and Amy Peters and Daisy Utemorrah both grew up on the Kunmunya mission. This comprehensive and detailed grammar provides as well an historical and cultural context for a society now drastically altered. In the 1950s Worrorra people left their traditional land and from the 1970s the number of people speaking Worrorra as their first language declined dramatically. Worrorra is a highly polysynthetic language, characterised by overarching concord and a high degree of morphological fusion. Verbal semantics involve a voicing opposition and an extensive system of evidentiality-marking. Worrorra has elaborate systems of pragmatic reference, a derivational morphology that projects agreement-class concord across most lexical categories and complex predicates that incorporate one verb within another. Nouns are distributed among five genders, the intensional properties of which define dynamic oppositions between men and women on the one hand, and earth and sky on the other. This volume will be of interest to morphologists, syntacticians, semanticists, anthropologists, typologists, and readers interested in Australian language and culture generally.
