Book The Story of the Book of Mormon Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Story of the Book of Mormon Classic Reprint written by George Reynolds and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of the Book of Mormon HE story that we are about to relate is a true one. It is the history of the races who lived on this broad land of ours long, long ago. From it we shall learn many lessons of God's great love for man. We shall also learn how often his love has been spurned, how apt his favored children have been to walk in ways of sin, and how prone to disobey his holy law.' It is a story full of light and shade, one which it will be well for all of us to take to heart, for by so doing our faith in God will increase, and we shall be prompted to strive the more earnestly to avoid the evils that others by their misdeeds have brought upon themselves and their posterity. America, the land we love, is, in our Heavenly Father's eyes, choice above all other lands as the home of his sons and daughters, whom he has placed upon this earth. For all God's creatures are not here. He has made many worlds and filled them with his chil dren. How many we know not; they are countless to us. The stars, that shine in myriads in the heavens, are nearly all suns like the one that gives us light; the remaining few are worlds like unto this on which we dwell; and ours is one of the very smallest of them all. To the works of God there is no beginning, neither is there any end. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Birth of Mormonism With a history of how this book came to be written. Its genesis was a paper pre pared as a contribution to local history. It has grown with the years it has made use of sources not ordinarily accessible and possibly no longer in existence; and it is believed that it presents more completely the story of the birth of Mormonism than any publication now in print. It is sent forth with the hope that it will help to arouse the American people to endeavor more energetically to remove this moral menace to and blot upon our country the greatest religious fraud of the nineteenth century, if not of all time. Book Tell It All

Download or read book Tell It All written by Mrs. T. B. H. Stenhouse and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tell It All: The Story of a Life's Experience in Mormonism In these pages, a woman, a wife and mother, speaks the sorrows and oppressions of which she has been the witness and the victim. It is because her sorrows and her oppressions are those of thousands, who, suffering like her, cannot or dare not speak for themselves, that she thus gives this history to the public. It is no sensational story, but a plain, unvarnished tale of truth, stranger and sadder than fiction. Our day has seen a glorious breaking of fetters. The slave-pens of the South have become a nightmare of the past; the auction-block and whipping-post have given place to the church and school-house; and the songs of emancipated millions are heard through our land. May we not then hope that the hour is come to loose the bonds of a cruel slavery whose chains have cut into the very hearts of thousands of our sisters - a slavery which debases and degrades womanhood, motherhood, and the family? Let every happy wife and mother who reads these lines give her their sympathy, prayers, and aid to free her sisters from this degrading bondage. Let all the womanhood of the country stand united for them. There is a power in combined enlightened sentiment and sympathy before which every form of injustice and cruelty must finally go down. May He who came to break every yoke hasten this deliverance! About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of the Mormons: From the Date of Their Origin to the Year 1901 Pomeroy Tucker, the author of Origin and Progress of the Mormons (new York, was personally acquainted with the Smiths and with Harris and Cowdery before and after the appearance of the Mormon Bible. He read a good deal of the proof of the original edition of that book as it was going through the press, and was present during many of the negotiations with Grandin about its publication. His testimony in regard to early matters connected with the Church is important. Two non-mormons who had an early view of the church in Utah and who put their observations in book form were B. G. Ferris (utah and the Mor mons, New York, 1854 and 1856) and Lieutenant J. W. Gunnison of the United States Topographical Engineers (the Mormons, Philadelphia, Both of these works contain interesting pictures of life in Utah in those early days. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from One Hundred Years of Mormonism: A History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints From 1805-1905 For the argumentative tone of passages here and there throughout the book no apology, surely, will be expected, in view of the pace in this direction which non-mormon writers, have uniformly set me. The most recent attempt, for instance, at a story of the Mormons by an outsider is little else than an argument, from cover to cover of its more than six hundred pages, against the claims of the Church; and the animus of its author is not even disguised by ordin ary forms. But, indeed, as the reader will perceive, in this respect, I have followed my contentious historical brethren only at a comfortable dog-trot, being satisfied, generally, to let the facts speak for themselves without putting myself out of the way to cast javelins after antagonists. Download or read book New Light on Mormonism Classic Reprint written by Mrs. Ellen E. Dickinson and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from New Light on Mormonism The rapid growth of Mormonism and the grave political aspect it has assumed render it one of the most important topics of current reform. The time seems ripe for giving to the public its true origin, and for the re-telling of an old story, with the addition of facts and circumstances that have not hitherto been printed. A deeper interest may be felt in this attempt to cut to the very root of this monstrous parasite upon our American civilization, by my stating here that the Rev. Solomon Spaulding, the author of the romance called "The Manuscript Found," from which the "Book of Mormon" was formulated, was my mother's uncle by marriage; that this romance was for a long time in the house of my grandfather, William Harvey Sabine, near Syracuse, New York, and that it contained no suggestion of polygamy. With the intention of writing these pages I visited Mrs. McKinstry, the daughter and only child of the Rev. S. Spaulding, in Washington, D. C., in 1880, and she then made a sworn statement as to her father's authorship of the work which has been used with such disastrous effect by crafty men. (Appendix No. 1.) Mor monism has spread itself over practically the whole of the civilised world. Its adherents are numbered by hundreds of thousands, and it must not be forgotten that its first converts, outside America, were drawn from Great Britain, the country which sent forth the founders of the United States. The recruiting from these islands, indeed, still proceeds with periodical fluctuations in spite Of many checks and reverses. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mormon Saints: The Story of Joseph Smith, His Golden Bible, and the Church He Founded The peculiar people who colonized the valley of the Great Salt Lake have many admirable qualities commending them to favor; the impartial historian may not shut his eyes to these. Perhaps these virtues are more to be feared than their vices. For, if the beliefs, doctrines, and practices of the Mormons are dangerous to society, there is reason for the gravest ap prehension, and need of the most ener getic measures to render them harmless. Truly marvelous has been the spread of the Mormon faith. Joseph Smith in 1827 proclaimed his discovery of the golden plates whereon was inscribed the Book of Mormon. Three years later the first church was organized with six members; to day, after less than a century, the Mormon faith numbers nearly half a mil lion awdherents It is doubtful whether Christianity had gained that number of converts by the end of its first century.
