Book excerpt: Peter Morris wanted a lot of things in his life, but a child was never one of them. Then one night after too many martinis, he accidentally created one. Nine months later, the world was turned upside down when his son was born and this new father realized he had no idea what he was doing. In his collection of humorous anecdotes, Morris recounts what happens when people who once shunned children ignore their instincts and give birth to one. From drinking too many martinis on the night of conception to dealing with the anxiety of waiting for an unplanned child to the cutthroat world of preschool enrollment, Morris shares a fathers perspective into the funny, sometimes painful, and often hilarious moments during his journey through the overwhelming world of birth and child rearing. While offering his take on breast-feeding support groups and the battles of sleep deprivation, Morris encourages other new fathers to find the humor in every aspect of parenting. Stork Reality shares one mans roller-coaster journey as he unwittingly transforms from a happy-go-lucky bachelor to a proud dad who happily flies through fatherhood by the seat of his pants.

Book The Construction Of Reality In The Child

Download or read book The Construction Of Reality In The Child written by Jean Piaget and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Volume XX of thirty-two in the Developmental Psychology series. Initially published in 1954, in Piaget’s words the study of sensorimotor or practical intelligence in the first two years of development has taught us how the child, at first directly assimilating the external environment to his own activity, later, in order to extend this assimilation, forms an increasing number of schemata which are both more mobile and better able to inter-coordinate. This study looks at the second part of evolution of sensorimotor intelligence, as the description of behavior no longer suffices to account for these new products of intellectual activity; it is the subject’s own interpretation of things which we must now try to analyze.

Book From Innocence to Reality

Download or read book From Innocence to Reality written by Patricia Simms Harrison and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the winter of 1971 when my father and my brothers sued Keith, resulting in their paying him $91,839.60 for his stock, I have attempted to discover what would end the lasting conflict between the Harrison family and the Simms family. I have assumed, as do most Americans, that all problems have a solution, that the Harrisons and the Simmses would once again become one happy family. Yet, more than thirty years later, the solution has not been revealed. Therefore, as I am now nearing the last stage of my life, I have decided to adopt a different attitude. I shall settle for an examination of the past in order to determine the causes and to banish from my mind the achievement of a reunion between our families. Soon most of us who have been involved in the conflict will be with God in Heaven, and those left on earth will neither know, nor care. Thus, with the writing of this book, I shall hopefully gain peace, contentment and acceptance for life as it exists, rather than life as it were before the suit.

Book Cause Mind and Reality

    Book Details:
  • Author : J. Heil
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 9401197342
  • Pages : 293 pages

Download or read book Cause Mind and Reality written by J. Heil and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: T is said that there is no progress in philosophy. The illusion of standing I still, however, arises only when we lose sight of our history and so fail to notice the distance we have travelled. Philosophers nowadays find obvious ideas and themes that, as it happens, emerged slowly and painfully and largely in reaction to prevailing sensibilities. The essays here honour a man to whom present-day philosophy owes much: Charles Burton Martin. In reflecting on my own on-going and somewhat chaotic philosophical education, I find considerable evidence of Charlie Martin's influence. After departing graduate school, one of the first papers I succeeded in publishing consisted of an attack on Martin and Deutscher's 'Remembering'. ' After that, Charlie more or less vanished from my conscious awareness until the winter of 1985, when we appeared together in a colloquium at the Eastern Division meetings of the American Philosophical Association. Although Charlie was nominally a commentator on a paper I was delivering, his 'comments' contained more philosophy and went considerably beyond the tentative and highly circumscribed thesis I had elected to defend. Whereas my focus had been on a tiny feature of Hilary Putnam's argument against realism, Charlie went straight for the jugular, addressing matters that immediately took us into deep water.

Book Making Sense of Reality

Download or read book Making Sense of Reality written by Tia DeNora and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2014-09-22 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is reality and how do we make sense of it in everyday life? Why do some realities seem more real than others, and what of seemingly contradictory and multiple realities? This book considers reality as we represent, perceive and experience it. It suggests that the realities we take as ‘real’ are the result of real-time, situated practices that draw on and draw together many things - technologies and objects, people, gestures, meanings and media. Examining these practices illuminates reality (or rather our sense of it) as always ‘virtually real’, that is simplified and artfully produced. This examination also shows us how the sense of reality that we make is nonetheless real in its consequences. Making Sense of Reality offers students and educators a guide to analysing social life. It develops a performance-based perspective (‘doing things with’) that highlights the ever-revised dimension of realities and links this perspective to a focus on object-relations and an ecological model of culture-in-action.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many declare the debate about abortion to be hopelessly polarised, between conservatives and liberals, between forces religious and secular.
