Book excerpt: For many years I have wanted to commit some thoughts to paper and this is a random collection of ideas that have just poured out. Some are true; others are based on fact while the remainder are ideas that just came into my head. Many friends who read my stories have enjoyed them and encouraged me to publish them in a book form. So what you have here is a miscellany or as my Brother in Law described them a box of assorted assortments. I hope that readers will enjoy my deliberations and perhaps smile, recall a similar event in their past or maybe shed a tear. But most of all enjoy.

Book The Hermit in the Garden

Download or read book The Hermit in the Garden written by Gordon Campbell and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2013-03-28 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tracing its distant origins to the villa of the Roman emperor Hadrian in the second century AD, the eccentric phenomenon of the ornamental hermit enjoyed its heyday in the England of the eighteenth century It was at this time that it became highly fashionable for owners of country estates to commission architectural follies for their landscape gardens. These follies often included hermitages, many of which still survive, often in a ruined state. Landowners peopled their hermitages either with imaginary hermits or with real hermits - in some cases the landowner even became his own hermit. Those who took employment as garden hermits were typically required to refrain from cutting their hair or washing, and some were dressed as druids. Unlike the hermits of the Middle Ages, these were wholly secular hermits, products of the eighteenth century fondness for 'pleasing melancholy'. Although the fashion for them had fizzled out by the end of the eighteenth century, they had left their indelible mark on both the literature as well as the gardens of the period. And, as Gordon Campbell shows, they live on in the art, literature, and drama of our own day - as well as in the figure of the modern-day garden gnome. This engaging and generously illustrated book takes the reader on a journey that is at once illuminating and whimsical, both through the history of the ornamental hermit and also around the sites of many of the surviving hermitages themselves, which remain scattered throughout England, Scotland, and Ireland. And for the real enthusiast, there is even a comprehensive checklist, enabling avid hermitage-hunters to locate their prey.

Book excerpt: **Jacob:** Nova crashed into my life - quite literally. I looked into her honey-brown eyes, layered with pride, determination, defiance... and wariness so profound I knew it would take both me and my twin brother to earn her trust. She gave me a fake number, but that's alright. I've always liked a challenge. Nova will be ours.**Nova:** I can't believe I got in a car accident with the sexiest cowboy alive. And I really can't believe he has a twin. A freaking twin. Are you kidding me? The worst part is, Jacob is sweet and funny and Isaiah is adorably grumpy. What's a girl to do when not one, but two cowboys come to her rescue? Give them a fake number, obviously. I'm the only person I can count on, but the twins keep proving they are up to the task.**Isaiah:** I don't even know her name. She refused to give it to me during our brief interaction. Even so, she haunts my every thought. If I were the type of guy to use the word adorable, I'd use it to describe her. But she's not just adorable. She's feisty and sexy and yet somehow so pure. But I'm not ready to get my heart chewed up and spit out again. Before long, the curvy princess has the power to bring me to my knees. **Her Twin Cowboys is a super hot MFM romance featuring a curvy girl who gets exactly what she wants. As always, this book contains plenty of heat (all about her, no M/M scenes) and a swoon-worthy HEA. Get comfy and settle in for one wild ride!**
