Book excerpt: Are you struggling to get good prints from your images? Are your digital photos hogging your hard drive instead of hanging out in snappy albums and archives? Looking for ways to improve your prints beyond simple snapshots? The popularity and convenience of digital photography has led to more pictures being taken, but fewer being turned into beautiful prints, framed, put in photo albums, and shared with others. The majority of users do nothing with their images for two reasons: the results are disappointing and the process of improving and preparing images for print is daunting. Written by popular photographer, columnist, and digital imaging expert Jon Canfield, this book shows you how to easily enhance and prepare your digital images for printing. Step-by-step instructions and tutorials coupled with full-color images and screenshots explain how to use Photoshop CS2 or Elements for color management and correction; editing images for printing, including properly sizing, sharpening, and converting to monochrome; to fix lighting; and more. You'll also learn how to take your printing to the next level by: using different print technologies, papers, and inks; selecting Raster Image Processors; framing and mounting their prints; self-publishing; and effectively working with print services for the best output possible.

Book Litho Guide

    Book Details:
  • Author : James Howard
  • Publisher : LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
  • Release : 2011-12
  • ISBN : 9783846551851
  • Pages : 76 pages

Download or read book Litho Guide written by James Howard and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of the printing industry is to create and manufacture products that communicate visually. The printing process known as offset lithography dates back over 200 years. In offset printing, the image on the plate is transferred to the rubber blanket on the blanket cylinder. The rubber blanket then transfers or offsets, the image to the paper. Offset lithography is also called planography because the printing areas are on the same plane as the surface of the printing plate. Offset lithography is based on the principle that water and grease do not readily mix. During printing, the image areas accept only the lithographic ink, and the nonimage areas accept only water. There have been many technological advancements within offset lithography from digital presses to CTP (Computer to Plate) technology. Before a beginner learns about the new advancements, it is important that he or she learn the basic pre-press and press techniques used in the past. LITHOS was designed to help beginner Lithography students go through the pre-press, press, and post-press steps for a basic one-color design.
