Book Nordic Elite Sport

Download or read book Nordic Elite Sport written by Svein S. Andersen and published by Copenhagen Business School Press DK. This book was released on 2012 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an insightful overview over similarities and differences in the structures an methods applied in Nordic elite sport. It represents a milestone in understanding how these countries have dealt with the challenges of modern elite sport within a historical context. Despite initial similarities with respect to the structure and role of the sports movement, there are significant differences between the countries. The book represents a substantial contribution to the understanding of how the elite sports systems have developed within the broader sports movements, and how they are positioned to deal with today’s challenges under the watchful eye of the broader society.

Book Sport Policy

Download or read book Sport Policy written by Nils Asle Bergsgard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-11-04 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sport Policy: a comparative analysis of stability and change builds on the growing general interest in the comparative study of sport policy and the more specific interest in processes of policy change and issues associated with policy convergence. In stark contrast to many other areas of public policy such as education, personal welfare and health care there is a paucity of theoretically informed comparative studies in sport. Over recent years there has been a steady increase in public investment in sport and frequently, as a consequence, a sharper debate about how public resources should be used. However, there has been little analysis of the factors that shape the generation of domestic sport policy and little attempt to identify the variables that might influence the policy process. Sport Policy: a comparative analysis of stability and change provides a theoretically informed analysis of the sports systems in Canada, England, Germany and Norway. These economically advanced countries are carefully selected to enable the investigation of the significance of variables and because they share a number of socio-economic and sports-related characteristics, which provides the text with a unique breadth and depth of coverage. This text is a vital addition to the general paucity of literature in this area and is written by an internationally renowned author team.

Book Stakeholder Analysis and Sport Organisations

Download or read book Stakeholder Analysis and Sport Organisations written by Anna-Maria Strittmatter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-26 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a critical examination of the origins and development of stakeholder theory within sport management research and expands the existing literature by providing insights on stakeholding in sport from various perspectives, such as governance, communication and marketing. Examining cases from around the world and from a wide range of different sporting contexts, each chapter reflects on key insights derived from stakeholder theory before offering an analysis of the limitations of the theory and the ways in which it might be fruitfully extended or developed. It offers suggestions on how the literature on stakeholding in sport can be advanced in order to provide knowledge relevant not only to sport studies but also to organisation theory more broadly and points to future avenues of inquiry in order to extend the reach of stakeholder theory and other inter-organisational perspectives in sport management research. Stakeholder Analysis and Sport Organisations is fascinating reading for any advanced student, researcher, policy-maker or practitioner with an interest in sport management, sport governance, sport development or organisational theory.

Book Indigenous Sport and Nation Building

Download or read book Indigenous Sport and Nation Building written by Eivind Å. Skille and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the social, political, and cultural dimensions of Indigenous sport and nation-building. Focusing on the Indigenous Sámi of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia, it addresses how colonization variously impacts organizational arrangements and everyday sporting life in a modern world. Through detailed case data from the Norwegian side of Sápmi (the land of the Sámi), this book provides a critical and contemporary perspective of post-colonial influences and their impacts on sport. The study uses concepts of conventions, citizenship and communities, to examine the tenuous roles of Indigenous-based sport organizations and clubs towards the building of an Indigenous nation. The book further draws together international, national, and local Sámi experiences to address the communal and assimilative influences that sport brings for people in the North Calotte. Taken together, the book signals the importance of sport in future community development and the (re)emergence of Indigenous culture. Appealing to policy makers and scholars alike, the book will be of particular interest to researchers in sport sociology, Indigenous studies and post colonialism. It also provides essential insight for public officials and administrators of sport and/or Indigenous issues at various levels of public office. Book excerpt: Where do children go and what do they do outdoors? How do they evaluate their own environment? What are their likes and dislikes? What would they like to see added or changed? How can the outdoor environment support healthy child development? How is the impact of the environment affected by its social and physical characteristics? How can its developmental impact be strengthened through public policy? These are some of the questions addressed by Childhood’s Domain, originally published in 1986, in which children, as ‘expert’ research collaborators, describe their largely unseen life outdoors. On field trips to secret play places around their homes, in streets, in parks, and in places laid waste and abandoned by adult society, they reveal both the pleasure and difficulties of play in the city. A central concept of the book is a new term, terra ludens, which represents the accumulated developmental support that each child receives from her or his personal play spaces. Terra ludens reflects the degree to which each child acquires an intuitive sense of how the world is by playing with it. Field research for the book was conducted in London, Stevenage New Town and Stoke-on-Trent. Neighbourhood sites were deliberately chosen to contrast and compare children’s reactions to the characteristics of ‘big city’, ‘new town’ and ‘old industrial city’ environments. The most interesting experiences were encountered with children in Stoke-on-Trent. Here, in former mineral workings functioning as ‘playgrounds’ equipped with relics from the heyday of the industrial revolution, in new open spaces reclaimed from industrial ‘wastelands’, and in older parks dating from Victorian times, children demonstrated the creative possibilities of a landscape of opportunities lacking in the other two sites. Even so, children in all three sites revealed great ingenuity in making do with whatever resources they could find to create viable play environments for themselves.
