Book The Spiritual Universe

Download or read book The Spiritual Universe written by Fred Alan Wolf and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a National Book Award winner, “methodical and clear . . . provides physics-phobics a wide bridge to understanding some often arcane material” (Booklist). Why do we believe in the soul? Does it actually exist? If so, what is it? Does it differ from the self? Does it survive the body after death? In The Spiritual Universe, Fred Alan Wolf brings the most modern perspective of quantum physics to the most ancient questions of religion and philosophy. Taking the reader on a fascinating tour of both Western and Eastern thought, Wolf explains the differing view of the soul in the works of Plato, Aristotle, and St. Thomas, the ancient Egyptian’s belief in the nine forms of the soul, the Qabalistic idea of the soul acting in secret to bring spiritual order to a chaotic universe of matter and energy, and the Buddhist vision of a “nonsoul.” Wolf then mounts a defense of the soul against its modern critics who see it as nothing more than the physical body. “One of the few pathfinders who have discovered the versatility and potency of the new quantum paradigm based on consciousness.” —Amit Goswami, Professor of Physics and author of The Self-Aware Universe “The questions are exhilarating and the conclusions are properly mysterious and profoundly inconclusive . . . you’ll love the spirited journey.” —Thomas Moore, author of Care of the Soul and The Re-Enchantment of Everyday Life “Wolf is a new Thales for a new physics of the soul; his book will blow your mind and quicken your spirit.” —Michael Grosso, Ph.D., author of The Millennium Myth and Frontiers of the Soul

Book The Reintegration of Science and Spirituality

Download or read book The Reintegration of Science and Spirituality written by Deno Kazanis and published by . This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reintegration of Science and Spirituality offers a new and hopeful vision for the future. In a surprising manner, this book provides a basis in physics for mystical/spiritual phenomena. New discoveries from science regarding dark matter and dark energy are utilized to explain unanswered questions on the nature of paranormal phenomena, psychic phenomena, out-of-body experiences, near-death experiences, reincarnation, and a whole range of mystical phenomena. Dr. Deno Kazanis also presents an inspiring perspective on the traditional teachings and practices mankind has utilized to experience these phenomena. Difficult concepts of science relevant to this discussion, are presented in a readable and concise manner bringing the reader in as a partner in inquiry as well as inviting one to give language and credibility to personal experiences that are easily shared with others.

Book Spiritual Body Or Physical Spirit

Download or read book Spiritual Body Or Physical Spirit written by Benjamin P. Benjamin, Ph.d. and published by Sunbury PressInc. This book was released on 2013-02 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philip uses qualities of dark-matter to unravel the invisible but experientially present "self" in a rational way enabling future quantification in practice and therefore theory. As he elegantly puts it "where matter exists chemistry exists." Dark-matter gives dark-matter chemistry and a dark-matter body." His methodical and evidential approach including the analysis of emission of biophotons "the light of life" delimits our cognizable limits--the limits rationalism's hubris ignores to the point of ungrounded myth and myst about mind. Here is reason that does not exploit the mysterious derivation of matter, i.e., life as such. Philip penetrates matter (though constantly aware of our cognizable-predicament) and participates in a healthy, informed cautiousness toward using philosophical reasoning (but only vs. metaphysical rationalism)-an existential attitude made clear in the positive theistic existentialistic works of Karl Jaspers. There's the leaning toward a reasoning that encompasses and shatters rationalism. While the source of life is implied, he respectfully avoids eye contact and meaning by association with the divine. It's an extraordinary unifying quiet approach that cannot be reduced to a dimension that excludes occidental historical wisdom. The work presents a friendly unifying natural view in so far as it preserves an open-endedness toward experience. -- Glenn Wood, BSL. MA Researche, Karl Jaspers Applied

Book Divine Immanence An Essay on the Spiritual Significance of Matter

Download or read book Divine Immanence An Essay on the Spiritual Significance of Matter written by J. R. Illingworth and published by Luce Press. This book was released on 2007-10 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREFACE. THE Author of this very practical treatise on Scotch Loch - Fishing desires clearly that it may be of use to all who had it. He does not pretend to have written anything new, but to have attempted to put what he has to say in as readable a form as possible. Everything in the way of the history and habits of fish has been studiously avoided, and technicalities have been used as sparingly as possible. The writing of this book has afforded him pleasure in his leisure moments, and that pleasure would be much increased if he knew that the perusal of it would create any bond of sympathy between himself and the angling community in general. This section is interleaved with blank shects for the readers notes. The Author need hardly say that any suggestions addressed to the case of the publishers, will meet with consideration in a future edition. We do not pretend to write or enlarge upon a new subject. Much has been said and written-and well said and written too on the art of fishing but loch-fishing has been rather looked upon as a second-rate performance, and to dispel this idea is one of the objects for which this present treatise has been written. Far be it from us to say anything against fishing, lawfully practised in any form but many pent up in our large towns will bear us out when me say that, on the whole, a days loch-fishing is the most convenient. One great matter is, that the loch-fisher is depend- ent on nothing but enough wind to curl the water, -and on a large loch it is very seldom that a dead calm prevails all day, -and can make his arrangements for a day, weeks beforehand whereas the stream- fisher is dependent for a good take on the state of the water and however pleasant and easy it may be for one living near the banks of a good trout stream or river, it is quite another matter to arrange for a days river-fishing, if one is looking forward to a holiday at a date some weeks ahead. Providence may favour the expectant angler with a good day, and the water in order but experience has taught most of us that the good days are in the minority, and that, as is the case with our rapid running streams, -such as many of our northern streams are, -the water is either too large or too small, unless, as previously remarked, you live near at hand, and can catch it at its best. A common belief in regard to loch-fishing is, that the tyro and the experienced angler have nearly the same chance in fishing, -the one from the stern and the other from the bow of the same boat. Of all the absurd beliefs as to loch-fishing, this is one of the most absurd. Try it. Give the tyro either end of the boat he likes give him a cast of ally flies he may fancy, or even a cast similar to those which a crack may be using and if he catches one for every three the other has, he may consider himself very lucky. Of course there are lochs where the fish are not abundant, and a beginner may come across as many as an older fisher but we speak of lochs where there are fish to be caught, and where each has a fair chance. Again, it is said that the boatman has as much to do with catching trout in a loch as the angler. Well, we dont deny that. In an untried loch it is necessary to have the guidance of a good boatman but the same argument holds good as to stream-fishing...

Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1898 edition. Excerpt: ... II. FREEWILL OME passages from various writers on the' subject of freewill, will be found in a note to my lectures on Personality (p. 227); collected partly to show how strong a consensus of opinion there is upon the point, among writers of very various schools, and partly to emphasize the identity of doctrine contained in their different phraseology. But here, too, as in the case of self-identity, we are met with objections drawn from physiological psychology, which may justify a few further remarks upon the subject. In the first place, one must recall the fact that freewill (like personal identity, of which it is a function) is defended on grounds of experience, and denied on grounds of antecedent improbability. As Dr. Johnson once put it when irritated with the argument, 'all theory is against freewill, but all experience is in its favour.' This is important to notice, because it is the exact converse of what is often supposed to be the case, and of what has always been the case, whenever physical science has permanently altered popular opinion. For science is based upon facts of experience, and when in conflict with popular prejudice the whole secret of its success has always lain in its power of appeal to those facts. But in the present instance this is not the case. The consciousness of freedom is a fact of practically universal experience; not of reported experience in the past, but of present and past experience alike. While its opponents ground their opposition, not upon a refutation of the fact, nor even upon its inconsistency with other facts, but upon its inconsistency with a theory which they have drawn from other facts, and can only so draw by previously ruling the fact in question out of court. In other words, they beg the...
