Book The Spiritual Nature of Man

Download or read book The Spiritual Nature of Man written by Stanton Coit and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-04 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Spiritual Nature of Man It is not customary to think of human beings, from the moment of their birth to that of their death, as spirits, nor of human society as a spirit world. On the contrary, human society and the beings who constitute it are set over against spirits and the spirit world, as if here were two orders of existence that mutually excluded each other. If the question arises as to what agency, as distinct from a mechanical force, has been the cause of any given phenomenon, like the tipping of a table, ordinary language and thought divide all possible agencies into human beings and spirits. This reasoning implies that if a man tipped a table, it was not a spirit that did it, and vice versa. But if when a human agent produces an effect it is not a spirit that produces it, we are forced to classify the human being under the only other kind of reality which remains. If everything is either spirit or matter, and a human being is not spirit, he must be matter. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. You find yourself acting the same and yielding to those same old temptations - that didn't seem to change either. So you wonder, Has anything really changed? The correct answer to that question is foundational for receiving from God. If you lack this basic understanding, you'll forever ask yourself doubt-filled questions like: "How could God love somebody like me?" and "How can I possibly expect to receive anything from the Lord? I don't deserve it, I'm not good enough!" Spirit, Soul, and Body will help you eliminate those and other doubt-filled questions that destroy your faith. If you have trouble receiving from God, this is a must-read!

Download or read book Cyborg Selves written by Jeanine Thweatt-Bates and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the 'posthuman'? Is becoming posthuman inevitable-something which will happen to us, or something we will do to ourselves? Why do some long for it, while others fearfully reject it? These questions underscore the fact that the posthuman is a name for the unknown future, and therefore, not a single idea but a jumble of competing visions - some of which may be exciting, some of which may be frightening, and which is which depends on who you are, and what you desire to be. This book aims to clarify current theological and philosophical dialogue on the posthuman by arguing that theologians must pay attention to which form of the posthuman they are engaging, and to demonstrate that a 'posthuman theology' is not only possible, but desirable, when the vision of the posthuman is one which coincides with a theological vision of the human.
