The text submitted was not, however, the one which is here reproduced, but two Latin translations, one in more polished Latin - since called the Fulgate Version - and one a literal rendering. The opinions expressed on these versions, as also the formal approval of Paul III, are given here, as applying quite entirely to the text from which the translations were made. Vulgate Version We have read everything compiled in the volume: it has greatly pleased us and seemed remarkably conducive to the salvation of souls. The Cardinal of Burgos We grant leave to print the work; it is worthy of all praise and very profitable to the Christian profession. Philip, Vicar. Such holy Exercises cannot but afford the greatest profit to any one who studies them. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The d104 of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius: Translated From the Original Spanish It is not certain whether the second Latin version that was submitted to the Censors is still in existence, but it seems probable that it is that contained in an ancient manuscript belonging to the Archives of the Society, which was written in 1541. It is but a rough translation, and this is probably the reason why, if it was one of the two versions examined by the Pope's orders, the other was preferred for publi cation. But this version has a special value as it was used by St. Ignatius himself, and has on its outer leaf the words in the handwriting of the Saint, T odes exerez'z'z'es breeder en by which he meantto indicate, not that the book was an abbreviation of his Spanish original, but that the Exercises which are given only at length by word of month are here to be found in the terse brevity with which he had written them down. Book excerpt: One of the key figures in Christian history, St. Ignatius of Loyola (c. 1491-1556) was a passionate and unique spiritual thinker and visionary. The works gathered here provide a first-hand, personal introduction to this remarkable character: a man who turned away from the Spanish nobility to create the revolutionary Jesuit Order, inspired by the desire to help people follow Christ. His Reminiscences describe his early life, his religious conversion following near-paralysis in battle, and his spiritual and physical ordeals as he struggled to assist those in need, including plague, persecution and imprisonment. The Spiritual Exercises offer guidelines to those seeking the will of God, and the Spiritual Diary shows Ignatius in daily mystical contact with God during a personal strugg;e. The Letters collected here provide an insight into Ignatius' ceaseless campaign to assist those seeking enlightenment and to direct the young Society of Jesus.

Book The Autobiography of St Ignatius Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Autobiography of St Ignatius Classic Reprint written by Of Loyola Ignatius and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life of a saint in their own words. This is a translated transcript of Saint Ignatius' own description of his life and spiritual battles. Ignatius was raised by the wife of a blacksmith, eventually becoming a knight. After being injured in battle he was inspired by stories of saints to dedicate himself to his religion and eventually became an influential religious figure. He is famous for his Spiritual Exercises, which aim to bring the practitioner closer to the divine through four "weeks" of work, but perhaps more so for founding the Jesuit order. These are not the topics of the autobiography however, as ever humble Ignatius is more concerned with examining his own spiritual (rather than material) battles and conversion.
