Excerpt: ... from their home in a dry and thirsty land, may be as prisoners of hope, not without the stronghold in which they may find refuge.9 May we not believe, rejecting with a righteous protest the dark dreams of the popular theology of Eome, that there (as one has said whose thoughts are higher than his system) the memory of the past, with all its shame and sadness--the prospect of the future, with all its hope and brightness--will work together to an issue which no material fires could accomplish--"That these two pains, so counter and so keen, The longing for Him when thou see'st Him not, The shame of self at thought of seeing Him," 10 shall act to purify what is base in us, and illumine what is dark? If the future is to be the development and continuation of the present, if we are not to pass from a life of ever-varying relations with our fellowmen, each bringing with it opportunities for selfdiscipline and for serving God, to an absolute isolation, may we not go yet one step further and believe, as some did in the earliest ages of the Church, and as others have thought of late, that those whose joy it has been in life to be fellow-workers with Christ in leading many to righteousness, may continue to be fellow-workers there, and so share the life of angels in their work of service as in their ministries of praise I1 The manifestation of God's righteous judgment and (9) Zech. ix. 12; Ezek. xvii. 68; xx. 13, 14. This book was released on 2017-10-16 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Spirits in Prison and Other Studies on the Life After Death The fact that, after a sale of four thousand copies of this work, I have been asked to prepare a fresh issue, leads me to think that it has met a want more or less widely felt. The many letters which I have received from correspondents personally unknown, but whose minds had been drawn to the contemplation of the great problems of which I have ventured to treat, confirm that impression and are a more than sufficient reward for whatever labour I have bestowed on them. I am largely indebted to those correspondents for the facts, references, and quotations which will be found in the Additional Notes. Acting on the suggestion of some of my reviewers and of personal friends, I have, I hope, added to the usefulness of the book by the addition (1) of a fuller analytical Table of Contents, and (2) of somewhat copious Indexes. For both of these I am indebted to the kindness of the Rev. H. W. Pereira, m.a., of whose scholarly accuracy in such work - a work, perhaps, of greater labour than that of the writer sufficient evidence will be found, if any were wanted besides that thus given to the reader, in his thought ful and exhaustive volume, A Commentary on the Ofiiee for the Ministration of Holy Baptism. I know no work on that subject in English theological literature more abounding in a wealth of illustrative quotations from Scripture, Ancient Liturgies, and the writings of Catholic Fathers, Doctors, and Divines. Book Gospel Centered Youth Ministry

Download or read book Gospel Centered Youth Ministry written by Cameron Cole and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2016-02-12 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Youth ministry is an essential part of most evangelical churches. And yet, there is a surprising lack of resources written specifically for youth workers focused on viewing all aspects of youth ministry through a gospel-focused lens. Featuring contributions from a host of experienced youth workers from a wide variety of churches, this how-to manual offers guidance related to every facet of youth ministry, from planning short-term mission trips to working with parents. Theologically rooted yet eminently practical, this handbook will equip youth leaders to effectively shepherd the young people under their care—training them to live faithfully in their homes, churches, and schools.

Book Systematic Theology Volume 2 Second Edition

Download or read book Systematic Theology Volume 2 Second Edition written by James Leo Garrett and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-09-14 with total page 983 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rivals the major systematic theologies of this century."--Baptist History and Heritage Journal, July 1996"One of the characteristics of Garrett's system that needs especially to be noted is its balanced, judicious, and nearly invariably objective presentation of materials. While holding true to the teachings of his own Baptist faith, Garrett so carefully and judiciously presents alternatives . . . that teachers and students from other confessional and denominational positions will find his work instructive."--Consensus, 1997"If one is searching for an extensive exposition of the biblical foundations and historical developments of the various loci of systematic theology, there is no more complete presentation in a relatively short work than this . . . Pastors will especially find this feature to be a real help in teaching theology . . . [It is] an indispensable contribution to the task of systematic theology."--Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, September 1999"Many students and pastors will find all they need here, and will in addition be helped to relate their knowledge to recent developments in the theological world."--The Churchman: A Journal of Anglican Theology, 1991"A gold mine of helpful material."--The Christian Century, May 29-June 5, 1991"No book that I know is more loaded with biblical and theological facts than this one. The prodigious research that must have gone into the preparation of this volume is truly mind-boggling."--Faith and Mission, Fall 1991"Garrett has provided a massive and scholarly systematic theology from a thoroughly conservative and comprehensive viewpoint. The work is well documented in both biblical and historical scholarship and will prove to be a classic."--William Hendrickson, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"One of the most comprehensive, concise books of its type available; it should receive wide use in the classroom and in the study."--Robert H. Culpepper, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
