Book Perturbations in the Spectra of Diatomic molecules

Download or read book Perturbations in the Spectra of Diatomic molecules written by Helene Lefebvre-Brion and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perturbations in the Spectra of Diatomic Molecules examines in sufficient detail the spectrum of every diatomic molecule. This book is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 describes the perturbations and simple procedures for evaluating matrix elements of angular momentum. The terms in the molecular Hamiltonian that are responsible for perturbations are elaborated in Chapter 2, while the process of reducing spectra to molecular constants and the difficulty of relating empirical parameters to terms in the exact molecular Hamiltonian are described in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 discusses the magnitudes and physical interpretations of matrix elements. The transition intensities, especially quantum mechanical interference effects, are reviewed in Chapter 5. The last two chapters are devoted to the two forms of perturbation—predissociation and autoionization. This publication is a good source for graduate students, theorists, experimentalists, and potential users of spectroscopic data.

Download or read book The Iodine Molecule written by Sergey Lukashov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-02 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents experimental and theoretical spectroscopic studies performed over the last 25 years on the iodine molecule’s excited states and their perturbations. It is going to be of interest to researchers who study intra- and intermolecular perturbations in diatomic molecules and more complex systems. The book offers a detailed treatment of the nonadiabatic perturbations of valence, ion-pair and Rydberg states induced by intramolecular as well as intermolecular interactions in collisions or in weakly-bound complexes. It also provides an overview of current instrumentation and techniques as well as theoretical approaches describing intra- and intermolecular perturbations. The authors are experts in the use of spectroscopy for the study of intrinsic and collision-induced perturbations in diatomic iodine. They introduced a new method of three-step optical population of the iodine ion-pair states. The iodine molecule has 23 valence states correlating with three dissociation limits, 20 so-called ion-pair states, nestled in four tiers and a multitude of Rydberg states. All the states have different angular momenta, parities and very dense rovibronic levels. Moreover, perturbations caused by atomic or molecular partners lead to effective nonadiabatic transitions. For these reasons the authors propose this molecule as a model system for spectroscopic studies of intra- and intermolecular perturbations in other diatomic molecules.

Book XUV Pump Probe Experiments on Diatomic Molecules

Download or read book XUV Pump Probe Experiments on Diatomic Molecules written by Kirsten Schnorr and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-29 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the relaxation dynamics of inner-valence-ionized diatomic molecules on the basis of extreme-ultraviolet pump-probe experiments performed at the free-electron laser (FEL) in Hamburg. Firstly, the electron rearrangement dynamics in dissociating multiply charged iodine molecules is studied in an experiment that made it possible to access charge transfer in a thus far unexplored quasimolecular regime relevant for plasma and chemistry applications of the FEL. Secondly the lifetime of an efficient non-radiative relaxation process that occurs in weakly bound systems is measured directly for the first time in a neon dimer (Ne2). Interatomic Coulombic decay (ICD) has been identified as the dominant decay mechanism in inner-valence-ionized or excited van-der-Waals and hydrogen bonded systems, the latter being ubiquitous in all biomolecules. The role of ICD in DNA damage thus demands further investigation, e.g. with regard to applications like radiation therapy.

Book Spectroscopy Dynamics and Molecular Theory of Carbon Plasmas and Vapors

Download or read book Spectroscopy Dynamics and Molecular Theory of Carbon Plasmas and Vapors written by Laszlo Nemes and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a stop-gap contribution to the science and technology of carbon plasmas and carbon vapors. It strives to cover two strongly related fields: the molecular quantum theory of carbon plasmas and carbon nanostructures; and the molecular and atomic spectroscopy of such plasmas and vapors. These two fields of research are strongly intertwined and thus reinforce one another.Even though the use of carbon nanostructures is increasing by the day and their practical uses are emerging, there is no modern review on carbon plasmas, especially from molecular theoretical and spectroscopic viewpoints. The importance of the present book is therefore great from both educational and practical aspects. This review might be the first step towards bringing such textbooks into existence for university education. Similarly, for applied and engineering works in carbon nanostructures, the book provides a theoretical salient point for technologists in the field.

Book Spectroscopy and Optical Diagnostics for Gases

Download or read book Spectroscopy and Optical Diagnostics for Gases written by Ronald K. Hanson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-26 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text provides an introduction to the science that governs the interaction of light and matter (in the gas phase). It provides readers with the basic knowledge to exploit the light-matter interaction to develop quantitative tools for gas analysis (i.e. optical diagnostics) and understand and interpret the results of spectroscopic measurements. The authors pair the basics of gas‐phase spectroscopy with coverage of key optical diagnostic techniques utilized by practicing engineers and scientists to measure fundamental flow‐field properties. The text is organized to cover three sub‐topics of gas‐phase spectroscopy: (1) spectral line positions, (2) spectral line strengths, and (3) spectral lineshapes by way of absorption, emission, and scattering interactions. The latter part of the book describes optical measurement techniques and equipment. Key subspecialties include laser induced fluorescence, tunable laser absorption spectroscopy, and wavelength modulation spectroscopy. It is ideal for students and practitioners across a range of applied sciences including mechanical, aerospace, chemical, and materials engineering.
