Book The Specific Housing Needs and Values of Apartment Builder owner and Apartment Tenants

Download or read book The Specific Housing Needs and Values of Apartment Builder owner and Apartment Tenants written by Ann L. Dexter and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation in housing needs and values of apartment builders-owners and apartment tenants. Two somewhat parallel questionnaires were developed. One was sent to builder-member of the local chapter of the National Homebuilders Association; another was sent to a sample of apartment tenants living in their units and to a random sample of tenants listed in the local telephone directory. Questionnaires were designed to determine from both groups: the interior, exterior, and convenience features determined most important; specific desires in cosmetic interior design; types of rental units preferred and rents considered acceptable; locational preferences; and perception of current and future housing needs. Data were tabulated by calculator and converted into percentages. Agreement was evident in areas of exterior styling, interior, exterior, and convenience features preferred. Sample groups showed significant disagreement on locational preferences, and perception of current and future housing needs.

Book In Defense of Housing

Download or read book In Defense of Housing written by Peter Marcuse and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2024-08-27 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In every major city in the world there is a housing crisis. How did this happen and what can we do about it? Everyone needs and deserves housing. But today our homes are being transformed into commodities, making the inequalities of the city ever more acute. Profit has become more important than social need. The poor are forced to pay more for worse housing. Communities are faced with the violence of displacement and gentrification. And the benefits of decent housing are only available for those who can afford it. In Defense of Housing is the definitive statement on this crisis from leading urban planner Peter Marcuse and sociologist David Madden. They look at the causes and consequences of the housing problem and detail the need for progressive alternatives. The housing crisis cannot be solved by minor policy shifts, they argue. Rather, the housing crisis has deep political and economic roots—and therefore requires a radical response.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new way forward for sustainable quality of life in cities of all sizes Strong Towns: A Bottom-Up Revolution to Build American Prosperity is a book of forward-thinking ideas that breaks with modern wisdom to present a new vision of urban development in the United States. Presenting the foundational ideas of the Strong Towns movement he co-founded, Charles Marohn explains why cities of all sizes continue to struggle to meet their basic needs, and reveals the new paradigm that can solve this longstanding problem. Inside, you’ll learn why inducing growth and development has been the conventional response to urban financial struggles—and why it just doesn’t work. New development and high-risk investing don’t generate enough wealth to support itself, and cities continue to struggle. Read this book to find out how cities large and small can focus on bottom-up investments to minimize risk and maximize their ability to strengthen the community financially and improve citizens’ quality of life. Develop in-depth knowledge of the underlying logic behind the “traditional” search for never-ending urban growth Learn practical solutions for ameliorating financial struggles through low-risk investment and a grassroots focus Gain insights and tools that can stop the vicious cycle of budget shortfalls and unexpected downturns Become a part of the Strong Towns revolution by shifting the focus away from top-down growth toward rebuilding American prosperity Strong Towns acknowledges that there is a problem with the American approach to growth and shows community leaders a new way forward. The Strong Towns response is a revolution in how we assemble the places we live.
