Book Prayers and devotions for the spiritual journey

Download or read book Prayers and devotions for the spiritual journey written by Beppe Amico (curator) and published by Giuseppe Amico. This book was released on 2014-01-02 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is completely dedicated to prayer: a passionate job and a meticulous research that Beppe Amico – a catholic essayist writer – put in to realize it. As for Wikipedia, prayer is: “an invocation or act that seeks to activate a rapport with a deity, an object of worship, or a spiritual entity through deliberate communication. Prayer can be a form of religious practice, may be either individual or communal and take place in public or in private. It may involve the use of words or song. When language is used, prayer may take the form of a hymn, incantation, formal creed, or a spontaneous utterance in the praying person. There are different forms of prayer such as petitionary prayer, prayers of supplication, thanksgiving, and worship/praise. Prayer may be directed towards a deity, spirit, deceased person, or lofty idea, for the purpose of worshipping, requesting guidance, requesting assistance, confessing sins or to express one's thoughts and emotions. Thus, people pray for many reasons such as personal benefit or for the sake of others. Most major religions involve prayer in one way or another.”. In this new orations book there are several prayers together with an ample historiography put together by the curator, who quotes passages from Holy Scriptures, the Saint’s thoughts about praying, spiritual aphorisms, notes and ascetic samples to contextualize every devotion in its own part. The ascetics agree upon affirming that the true prayer comes from the heart and it’s the one that “moves” God. It establish a bridge between life and afterlife, allows to communicate with Him in many ways, up to the mystical marriage. Again from Wikipedia: “As for catholic tradition, when we pray we are completely aware that we are elevating to God”, so we are choosing to communicate and share on purpose our problems, our grief, our joy, our sorrow, our success, our fails with the Almighty. Beppe Amico ends the book premise with a thought: “In this book I collected the most widespread and well-known prayers of Catholic tradition. Those are the same I have been using for years and I still use in my own moments of spiritual meditation. Some of them are so beautiful and full of meanings to be real gems, able to let us raise and go on in our own path to reach perfection. His wife works. He's lost all self-esteem. He's on the scrap heap and wants to end it all . . . and so begins this brilliantly insane comedy about a man on the edge. When word gets out that Duff is going to top himself, a host of ne'er-do-wells crawl out of the woodwork, each wanting to claim his grand gesture for their 'noble cause'. Let's face it, why waste a death? But which cause shall it be . . . love, politics, religion, or the rising price of fish? Will the disillusioned Duff go through with it? Will he really top himself for a dubious cause? Is he worth it? An adaptation of Nikolai Erdman's The Suicide (1928), The Grand Gesture is a witty satire of lobbyists seeking political control.

Her brother, Ben, once the "good kid," adopts her bad habits along with her former friends who may have been complicit in her death. And after failing to keep his family from splitting apart, her seemingly stoic father, Drew, finally allows himself to crack. In her third novel, Courtney Elizabeth Mauk presents a nuanced character study and offers a jolting and unforgettable portrait of a family's struggle to survive.

Book excerpt: Aunt Angela knelt by the boys' bedside and bowed her head into the comfort of the blankets. "Oh, good and holy Saint Nicholas," she intoned, "you who bring joy to children, and plenty of presents too. It's me again, Angela Cavallo. Look, I know you're busy tonight, but put in my heart the spirit of childhood about which the Gospel speaks. Teach me how to sow happiness around me. Teach Little Dick never ever to touch women again. Teach The Turd to be nice to others, and teach Baby Michael to stop stealing stuff. Even if you must punish each of them with horrible afflictions, that's okay, we'll understand. Amen." "Amen," the boys chimed in together, hoping that tonight, Christmas Eve, would not be the night they broke out with some weird infection. When this mafioso family reunites for a Christmas celebration, things get wacky quickly as headstrong Silvio Cavallo and his unforgettable gay twin brothers become involved in a hilarious hit job gone wrong. Italian Holiday is a comical caper of Italian bluster, dysfunctional family dynamics, and an outlandish tale complete with wine, weapons, and wisecracks. For at least one family, turmoil rather than the serenity of a Norman Rockwell painting may be the real Christmas tradition.
