Book The Special Ministries of Women

Download or read book The Special Ministries of Women written by Wayne ODonnell and published by Wayne ODonnell. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All my books can be read online free at wayneodonnell.com. “Freely you have received, freely give” (Mt. 10:8). God uniquely created women for special ministries to the Lord, their families, their churches, and society. These ministries include submission, modesty, quietness, affection, and chastity. Such services women render to the Lord are like the precious ointment Mary of Bethany poured on the head and feet of Jesus. Women have performed some of the greatest spiritual works of all time. Only a woman believed Jesus when he said he was going to die, and anointed him for his burial (Mt. 26:12-13). And only a woman was given the privilege, of not merely of being the first to see Jesus after his resurrection, but of seeing him even before he ascended to the Father (Jn. 20:16-18). The first section of this book covers the Headcovering of 1 Corinthians 11, a church meeting observance, like the Lord’s Supper in the same chapter, that God gave the church through the apostles to keep the church different from the world in regards to authority structures and gender roles, during this age of apostacy and rebellion when “the mystery of lawlessness is already at work,” 2 Thess. 2:7. The second section is about the the Song of Solomon, God’s engagement, marriage, and lovemaking manual, that he gave us in the Bible because marriage and love-making are so important to him, our creator. The Song of Solomon is the only book in the Bible written entirely from a woman’s perspective, including even her thoughts by inspiration of the Spirit of God, though it was written by her husband. I present her story in the form of a play, adding a few comments, but mostly just helping the reader understand each scene and who is speaking. The third section is about the one-flesh union and its implications for chastity, adultery, polygamy, divorce, and remarriage. Egalitarianism has made people misunderstand the one-flesh union, the Biblical definition of adultery, and polygamy; which has made people misinterpret Jesus’ statements about divorce and remarriage; which has resulted in untold amounts of suffering over the centuries. A recurring theme of this book is that modern, egalitarian Bible teachers will bear the responsibility for the harm they do by letting their culture determine their interpretation of the Bible, instead of letting the Bible determine their evaluation of their culture. This book covers some difficult topics. I recommend considering other interpretations of the passages I dealt with, as long as they’re based on the details of the text itself, and not imposed on the text by the interpreter because of his culture. This book is intended to be both practical and polemical; for women, laymen, and theologians; and as a contribution to the battle of loving patriarchy against the increasing egalitarianism in modern societies which does so much harm to women. I think you’ll see from these chapters, that I strongly believe in “giving HONOR unto [woman], as unto the weaker vessel,” 1 Pet. 3:7. I also try to interpret the Bible according to “the law of kindness,” Prov. 31:26.

Download or read book Women and Ministry written by Dan Doriani and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2003-04-10 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the midst of a raging debate about the role of women in the church, Dan Doriani offers credible and concrete guidance for mobilizing women for ministry. He combines biblical teaching and practical counsel in this comprehensive and accessible book. Doriani begins by explaining his own personal interest in the topic as a husband and a father of three daughters. Much of the book consists of analysis of the essential biblical data regarding the roles of men and women in the church. This analysis doesn't simply show what women can't do; it discusses all the ways in which women have effectively served in Israel and the church. He gives a biblical theology of gifts and calling and offers practical guidance about the many roles women can fill in the church today. This will prove a helpful guide for pastors, church leaders, and especially women who wish to use their spiritual gifts to advance God's kingdom.

Book Women in the New Testament

  • Author : Mary Ann Getty-Sullivan
  • Publisher : Liturgical Press

  • ISBN : 0814638872

Download or read book Women in the New Testament written by Mary Ann Getty-Sullivan and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2017-06-15 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the history of women, in religion as in other fields, is lost because it was overlooked or considered unimportant. It is therefore surprising that so many fragments of women's stories survive in the New Testament texts composed by men. Why did they include so many references to women and why are women, as a group, treated so positively by the male New Testament writers? Women in the New Testament shows how the stories of women are an integral part of the Gospel and its meaning for us. It also relays how we can respond to the challenge these women represent, whether we are men trying to understand or women trying to find our voices within the tradition of faith found in the New Testament. Chapter one discusses three women of expectant faith. Chapters two and three deal with women who are changed by Jesus. Chapter four focuses on New Testament women of influence. Chapters five and six show how women disciples spread and gave shape to the gospel message. Chapters are "Women of Expectant Faith," “Women Changed by Jesus,” “More Women Changed by Jesus,” “Women of Prominence,” “Women and Discipleship,” and “More Women and Discipleship.” Mary Ann Getty-Sullivan, PhD, teaches at St. Vincent College and St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, Pennsylvania. She is the author of First and Second Corinthians from the Collegeville Bible Commentary series, author of the God Speaks to Us series of children's books, and editor of the Zacchaeus Studies: New Testament series published by The Liturgical Press. Book Women and Men in Ministry

Download or read book Women and Men in Ministry written by Robert Saucy and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2001-05-01 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of women in the church is a debate that has raged within the church for much of the twentieth century. On one side are those who say there is no difference between men and women. On the other side are those who severely limit women who want to offer ministry to the church. Judith TenElshof and Robert Saucy take the middle approach. Believing that the modern views have denied the distinctions between men and women, the authors adopt a view called complementarianism. TenElshof and Saucy argue that while men and women are equal, God has given different roles to each and that these roles rely on each other to be fully effective.

Book excerpt: Respected scholar Dorothy Lee considers evidence from the New Testament and early church to show that women's ministry is confirmed by the biblical witness. Her comprehensive examination explores the roles women played in the Gospels and the Pauline corpus, with a particular focus on passages that have been used in the past to limit women's ministry. Book The Methodist Defense of Women in Ministry

Download or read book The Methodist Defense of Women in Ministry written by Paul W. Chilcote and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-11-10 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Wesley promoted the ministry of women in early Methodism. Amazing women like Phoebe Palmer, Catherine Booth, and Frances Willard—founding figures in the holiness movement, the Salvation Army, and the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union—claimed biblical precedent for their groundbreaking ministries. They withstood the onslaught of criticism and hostility from those who thought they had stepped out of their proper sphere. Methodists have championed the cause of women and developed biblical, spiritual, and practical arguments for their ministry for two and a half centuries. More than fifty documents from the history of Methodism chronicle the tortuous journey leading to biblical equality in this family of churches. At a time when the ministry of women is under serious attack in a number of quarters, yet again, we all have much to learn from the witness of Wesleyan Christians who argued for women’s ministry. This story illustrates how faithful women, when they knew they had the Lord’s approval, stood “like the beaten anvil to the stroke.” Courage. Defiance. Perseverance. Faithfulness. These qualities define the Methodist defense of women in ministry.

Book excerpt: What does the Bible say about the value of women? Does the Bible teach that women are as valuable as men or does it portray them as somehow more flawed, more suspect, or weak and easily deceived? Beginning from Genesis and working all the way through the storyline of the Bible, Worthy demonstrates the significant and yes, even surprising, ways that God has used women to accomplish His kingdom goals. Because, like men, they are created in His image, their lives reflect and declare His worth. Worthy will enable and encourage both men and women to embrace this true and lofty vision of God's creation, plan, and their value in His eyes. Bestselling author Elyse Fitzpatrick and pastor Eric Schumacher together invite women to embrace a transformative and empowering view of their Maker, themselves, and the church. But this isn't only a book for women. It is also a book for men, especially leaders, who want to grow in their understanding of God's perspective on women, people who normally make up the majority of their congregations; men who might be wondering if they've missed something amid the abuse scandals that are rocking the church. Might the headlines they're reading today about abuse have their roots in a denigration of the value and worth of women? Worthy: Celebrating the Value of Women will help every reader see the value, place, and calling of women through study questions and a "Digging Deeper" section that will help men and women discover how to cherish, value, and honor one another for God's glory.
