This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Space Shuttle Program in Transition, Keeping Safety Paramount, Vol. 2: Hearing Before the Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics of the Committee on Science, U. S. House of Representatives, One Hundred Fourth Congress, First Session, November 9, 1995 We would expect those contracts then to fold under the single prime in that August or September time frame. There would then be a second group of contracts which we con sider to be operational in nature, which those companies do not hold. Those will take a little longer to get in there because there has to be detailed cost analysis done, and that takes some months to do that. We would expect that those contracts would probably be folded into the single prime contract a few months later, probably four or five months later. Then those contracts, as I mentioned on the other chart which are development in nature, we would complete those develop ment - some of those contracts have production which would be there for the life of the program. After we complete the develop ment, those production contracts would be then phased into the single prime. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Access -- no single word better describes the primary concern of the exploration and development of space. Every participant in space activities -- civil, military, scientific, or commercial -- needs affordable, reliable, frequent, and flexible access to space. To Reach the High Frontier details the histories of the various space access vehicles developed in the United States since the birth of the space age in 1957. Each case study has been written by a specialist knowledgeable about the vehicle described and places each system in the larger context of the history of spaceflight. The technical challenge of reaching space with chemical rockets, the high costs associated with space launch, the long lead times necessary for scheduling flights, and the poor reliability of the rockets themselves show launch vehicles to be the space program's most difficult challenge.

Book Governance amid Bigger Better Markets

Download or read book Governance amid Bigger Better Markets written by Joseph S. Nye and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2004-06-23 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Brookings Institution Press and Visions of Governance for the 21st Century publication Changing markets are challenging governance. The growing scale, reach, complexity, and popular legitimacy of market institutions and market players are re-opening old questions about the role of the public sector and redefining what it means to govern well. This volume—the latest publication from the Visions of Governance in the 21st Century program at the Kennedy School of Government—explores the way evolving markets alter the pursuit of cherished public goals. John D. Donahue and Joseph S. Nye, Jr. frame the inquiry with an essay on governing well in an age of ascendant markets. Other contributors (all from Harvard's Kennedy School unless otherwise indicated) address specific areas of market governance in individual chapters: Joseph P. Newhouse on the medical marketplace, Jose Gomez-Ibañez and John R. Meyer on transportation, William Hogan on electric power, Paul E. Peterson on K–12 education, L. Jean Camp on information networks, Akash Deep and Guido Schaefer (Vienna University of Economics & Business Administration) on federal deposit insurance, Frederick Schauer on "the marketplace of ideas," Anna Greenberg on the "marketization" of politics, David M. Hart on the politics of high-tech industry, Viktor Mayer-Schönberger on information law, John D. Donahue and Richard J. Zeckhauser on the challenges posed by fast-changing markets, and Mark Moore on the spread of market ideology.
