Hundreds, aye thousands, who had not the money sent forward what jewelry or silver plate they possessed as contributions. Many a birth-day present and bridal gift has been sacrificed upon the altar of liberty that urged on our men of daring to deeds of valor and renown. History does not record such unbounded and unanimously Spontaneous action'of a people, Did we, indeed, lack the cavalier spirit.
