Book The Ancient Mariner Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Ancient Mariner Classic Reprint written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ancient Mariner This edition of The Ancient Mariner aims to include the information and critical comment necessary to an intelligent appreciation of the poem. As a help to that end, it has been thought desirable to print the original version (1798), since the differences between that and the final version afford an especially valuable opportunity for training in discrimination and taste. The interest which attaches to the personal history of Coleridge has, unfortunately, little in common with the interest which attaches to The Ancient Mariner. It has, therefore, seemed proper to include in this volume only a short biographical sketch. Students who may be impelled by a laudable curiosity to seek a more detailed knowledge of the poet's life are referred to the biographies by Hall Caine, Dr. Alois Brandl (translated into English by Lady Eastlake), and J. Dykes Campbell. Coleridge's own Biographia Literaria, in spite of its fragmentary character, is essential to a knowledge of his intellectual and moral development. Methods of teaching The Ancient Mariner must differ widely with different teachers and pupils. All efforts, however, should be subordinated to the: aim of helping students to read with their imaginations - to see what Coleridge describes. Very few Old sailors indeed can say that they ended their career without having had any hair breadth escapes from death by shipwreck, collision Or some other of the many dangers they are most likely to have met with. Book The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Other Poems

Download or read book The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Other Poems written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-26 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Other Poems: Lochiel's Warning and Other Poems by Thomas Campbell In his clumsily entitled Extempore Effusion upon the Death of James Hogg, Wordsworth has these lines, after referring to Hogg and to Walter Scott: - "Nor has the rolling year twice measured, From sign to sign, its steadfast course, Since every mortal power of Coleridge Was frozen at its marvellous source; ... The rapt One, of the god-like forehead, The heaven-eyed creature sleeps in earth." And in his poem, Resolution and Independence, though he does not name Coleridge, it is almost certain that he had him in mind when he wrote: - "My whole life I have lived in pleasant thought, As if life's business were a summer mood; As if all needful things would come unsought To genial faith, still rich in genial good; But how can he expect that others should Build for him, sow for him, and at his call Love him, who for himself will take no heed at all?" When he read the news of Coleridge's death, Wordsworth's voice faltered and broke, as he said he was the most wonderful man that he had ever known. It is always worth while to know what one poet thinks of another, especially if the two have been contemporaries, friends, intimate companions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner: In Seven Parts This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!
