Book Mandalas Their Nature and Development

Download or read book Mandalas Their Nature and Development written by Bodo Balsys and published by Universal Dharma Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-08 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maṇḍalas – Their Nature and Development This book deals with the question of what exactly constitutes a ‘cell’ metaphysically. The cell is viewed as a unit of consciousness that interrelate with other cells to form maṇḍalas of expression. Each such cell can be considered a form of ‘self’ that has a limited, though valid, body of expression. It is born, sustains a form of activity, and consequently dies when it outlives its usefulness. This mode of analysis is extended to include the myriad forms manifest in the world of phenomena known as saṃsāra including the existence and functioning of chakras. A Treatise on Mind Outline Volume 1 The “Self” or “Non-self” in Buddhism Volume 2 Considerations of Mind—A Buddhist Enquiry Volume 3 The Buddha-Womb and the Way to Liberation Volume 4 Maṇḍalas: Their Nature and Development Volume 5 An Esoteric Exposition of the Bardo Thödol Volume 6 Meditation and the Initiation Process Volume 7 The Constitution of Shambhala Whilst the numbers of Buddhists are growing in the world, the techniques and discourses of Buddhism have not changed to meet the radically different conditions of the contemporary world. Thus Buddhism needs a true restorative flowering to rival that of the renaissance of debate and innovative thinking of the early post-Nāgārjunian era. In order to achieve this it must synthesise the present wealth of scientific knowledge, alongside the best of the Western world’s philosophical output – this is the primary task of this seven volume treatise. The treatise investigates Buddhist ideas concerning what mind is and how it relates to a concept of a ‘self’. It is principally a study of the complex interrelationship between mind and phenomena, from the gross to the subtle—the physical, psychic, supersensory and supernal. This entails an explanation of how mind incorporates all phenomena in its modus operandi, and how eventually that mind is liberated from it, thereby becoming awakened. Thus the treatise explores the manner in which the corporeally orientated, concretised, intellectual mind eventually becomes transformed into the Clear Light of the abstracted Mind; a Buddha-Mind.

Book excerpt: For Jung, the beautiful and brilliantly creative 28-year old Christiana Morgan was an inspired force whose path in self-analysis paralleled his own quest for personal knowledge. By teaching Morgan the trance-like technique of active imagination, Jung helped her embark on a series of archetypal adventures which she depicted in paintings of great virtuosity and he candidly recounted at a seminar given to some of his closest followers. Through his eloquent description of the fiery, mythic visions of a woman discovering her repressed sexuality and feminine power, Jung reveals how deeply this encounter challenged his understanding of feminine psychology. These two volumes bring together for the first time colour reproductions of Morgan's paintings with a complete transcript of the seminar.

Book Knowing the Facts about Mantras and Mandalas

Download or read book Knowing the Facts about Mantras and Mandalas written by John Ankerberg and published by ATRI Publishing. This book was released on 2013-02-13 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mantras are sacred sounds and mandalas are sacred pictures (usually four-sided) employed for specific spiritual purposes such as occult forms of meditation and enlightenment Many mantras and some mandalas are held to have originated as a supernatural revelation from the gods or spirits with which they are associated. They function as a means of "focusing" the mind, e.g., in meditation and visualization, and thus to assist the seeker along a given spiritual path. Many who use these methods believe that they are relatively innocent or harmless forms of spiritual practice, but there are potential dangers, which this book exposes.

Book An Illustrated History of the Mandala

Download or read book An Illustrated History of the Mandala written by Kimiaki Tanaka and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-12-04 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone’s heard of mandalas; now we have a uniquely rich history and explanation of their history and meaning. This book is a history of the genesis and development of the mandala from the fifth and sixth centuries, when the mandala first appeared in India, to the eleventh century, when the Kalacakratantra appeared just before the disappearance of Buddhism in India. The 600 years of Indian esoteric Buddhism that concluded the 1,700-year history of Indian Buddhism could be said to have been the history of the development of the mandala. (The Kalacakratantra integrated earlier mandala theories into a single system and established a monumental system unprecedented in the history of esoteric Buddhism. It was thus the culmination of the development of Indian Buddhism over a period of 1,700 years.) The analysis is at the micro level and includes numerous illustrations and charts. Particular attention is paid to proper names, mudras, and mantras that have been overlooked by scholars in philosophy and doctrine, and the author tackles issues that cannot be explained solely from a historical viewpoint, such as geometric patterns, the arrangement of deities, the colors, and their meaning in Buddhist doctrine.

Book Spiritual Mathematics

Download or read book Spiritual Mathematics written by John Dunne-Brady and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-02-13 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book opened an entirely new vista for organizing and using basic numbers. It investigated standard linear numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ....), and how they adversely affected our thinking and actions. It carefully described a circular number system, in which numbers were placed on concentric circles, rather than on straight lines. This new arrangement might very differently and beneficially affect our daily thought processes and activities. The key discovery involved a series of ten mandalas (circular patterns) made from everyday numbers. The book correlated these new breakthroughs with ancient spiritual patterns and practices found in the I Ching, Yoga, Kabala, and in both Pagan and Christian mysteries. These older teachings included the chakras, tree of life, tarot cards, and sacraments. Spiritual Mathematics gave a scientific explanation for many spiritual values and sacred phenomena. It also emphasized the underlying spiritual realities encountered within modern scientific dogmas.

Book The Alchemical Mandala

Download or read book The Alchemical Mandala written by Adam McLean and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mandalas have long been recognized in Eastern spiritual traditions as important tools for focusing meditation. Though various Western traditions possess such contemplative tools, they have not often been recognized as such. McLean remedies this by presenting, and analyzing in great depth, over forty beautiful engravings, reproduced as full-page illustrations, from alchemical, kabbalistic, magical, Rosicrucian, and Hermetic sources. This second edition of the first book exclusively dedicated to the mandala tradition in the West is an extremely valuable sourcework for its illustrations and commentaries. Not only is it a comprehensive guide to reading the cosmological and spiritual symbolism of alchemical engravings, it also outlines three ways for working with these mandalas as spiritual exercises.
