Book The Solar Spectrum 3069 2095

Download or read book The Solar Spectrum 3069 2095 written by Charlotte Emma Moore and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the final listing of solar lines recorded in the NRL echelle spectra photographed at high resolution from Aerobee rockets flown in 1961 and 1964. The wavelength range covered is 3069Å to 2095Å. It is intended to accompany NRL report numbers 7788, 'An Atlas of the Solar Spectrum Between 2226 and 2992 Angstroms,' which presents the solar irradiance at 0.03 Å resolution as derived from the echelle spectra. Solar wavelengths are given to 0.01 Å, and estimated solar intensities are listed on a visual scale of 1 to 9. Identifications have been made from a detailed study of the multiplets in individual spectra and are based on a search of the spectroscopic literature. Laboratory wavelengths, multiplet numbers, and references are cited for each line. Approximately 6150 lines are reported, of which 80% are identified.

Book Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts

Download or read book Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts written by S. Böhme and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts, which has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969, is devoted to the recording, summarizing and indexing of astronomical publications throughout the world. It is prepared under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union (according to a resolution adopted at the 14th General Assembly in 1970). Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documenta tion of literature in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Every effort will be made to ensure that the average time interval between the date of receipt of the original literature and publication of the abstracts will not exceed eight months. This time interval is near to that achieved by monthly abstracting journals, compared to which our system of accumu lating abstracts for about six months offers the advantage of greater convenience for the user. Volume 31 contains literature published in 1982 and received before July 15, 1982; some older literature which was received late and which is not recorded in earlier volumes is also included. We acknowledge with thanks contributions to this volume by Dr. J. Bouska, Prague, who surveyed journals and publications in Czech and supplied us with abstracts in English .

Book Astronomical Spectrographs and Their History

Download or read book Astronomical Spectrographs and Their History written by John Hearnshaw and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-02-12 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astronomical spectrographs analyse light emitted by the Sun, stars, galaxies and other objects in the Universe, and have been used in astronomy since the early nineteenth century. This book provides a comprehensive account of spectrographs from an historical perspective, from their theory and development over the last two hundred years, to the recent advances of the early twenty-first century. The author combines the theoretical principles behind astronomical spectrograph design with their historical development. Spectrographs of all types are considered, with prism, grating or grism dispersing elements. Included are Cassegrain, coudé, prime focus, échelle, fibre-fed, ultraviolet, nebular, objective prism, multi-object instruments and those which are ground-based, on rockets and balloons or in space. The book contains several tables listing the most significant instruments, around 900 references, and over 150 images, making it an indispensable reference for professional astronomers, graduate students, advanced amateur astronomers, and historians of science.

Book Physics of Formation of FeII Lines Outside LTE

Download or read book Physics of Formation of FeII Lines Outside LTE written by Roberto Viotti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The same kind of physics is frequently common to very different fields of Astrophysics, so experts in each of these fields have often much to learn from each others. It was therefore logical that the International Astronomical Union should sponsor a colloquium about an ion which pro duces many spectral lines that can be used as a diagnostic for many sorts of objects, and which may sometimes have a major influence on physical processes occurring in astro physical sources. The lines of singly ionized iron (FeII) are present in absorption and emission in the spectra of objects such as the Sun, cool stars, circumstellar envelopes of hot stars, novae, diffuse nebulae including the supernova remnants, and active galactic nuclei. These lines are very often formed far from LTE, and their interpretation is not easy in view of the complex Grotrian diagram for FeII, and the gaps in the knowledge of various physical parameters. In addition, the density of very strong FeII lines becomes very large in the ultraviolet, and the lines can play a major role in the line blanketing. They need therefore to be taken into account in any energy balance argument.

Book Stellar Atmospheres Beyond Classical Models

Download or read book Stellar Atmospheres Beyond Classical Models written by L. Crivellari and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991-07-31 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of stellar atmospheres is one of the most important branches of modern astrophysics. It is first of all a major tool for understanding all aspects of stars. As the physical properties of their outer layers can now be found with high precision, firm conclusions can be drawn about the internal structure and evolution of stars. Moreover, improvements in our knowledge of the chemical composition of stars is shedding new light on the chemical evolution of galaxies and of the Universe as a whole. Because the outer layers of stars are among the best-understood astrophysical objects, the theory of stellar atmospheres plays an important role in the study of many other types of objects. These include planetary nebulae, H II regions, interstellar matter, and objects of interest in high-energy astrophysics, such as accretion disks (close binaries, dwarf novae, cataclysmic variables, quasars, active galactic nuclei), pulsar magnetospheres, and Seyfert galaxies. Finally, as stars provide a laboratory in which plasmas can be studied under more extreme conditions than on earth, the study of stellar atmospheres has strong connections with modern physics. Astronomical observations provided a vital stimulus in the early stages of quantum theory and atomic physics; even today topics such as low-temperature dielectronic recombination develop hand in hand with the interpretation of stellar and nebular spectra. Early work on MHD was similiarly motivated. Many such connections remain to be explored.
