Download or read book Python Algorithms written by Magnus Lie Hetland and published by Apress. This book was released on 2011-02-27 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Python Algorithms explains the Python approach to algorithm analysis and design. Written by Magnus Lie Hetland, author of Beginning Python, this book is sharply focused on classical algorithms, but it also gives a solid understanding of fundamental algorithmic problem-solving techniques. The book deals with some of the most important and challenging areas of programming and computer science, but in a highly pedagogic and readable manner. The book covers both algorithmic theory and programming practice, demonstrating how theory is reflected in real Python programs. Well-known algorithms and data structures that are built into the Python language are explained, and the user is shown how to implement and evaluate others himself.

Book Paul Samuelson

Download or read book Paul Samuelson written by Robert A. Cord and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A significant part of economics as we know it today is the outcome of battles that took place in the post-war years between Keynesians and monetarists. In the US, the focus of these battles was often between the neo-Keynesians at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Chicago monetarists. The undisputed leader of the MIT Keynesians was Paul A. Samuelson, one of the most influential economists of the 20th century and arguably of all time. Samuelson’s output covered a vast number of subjects within economics, the quality of theseoften pioneering contributions unmatched in the modern era. The volume focuses both on how Samuelson’s work has been developed by others and on how that work fits into subsequent developments in the various fields of speciality within which Samuelson operated.

  • ISBN : 9813103337
  • Pages : 362 pages

Download or read book Algebra written by Tzuong-tsieng Moh and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1992-12-31 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comes from the first part of the lecture notes which the author used for a first-year graduate algebra course. The aim of this book is not only to give the students quick access to the basic knowledge of algebra, either for future advancement in the field of algebra, or for general background information, but also to show that algebra is truly a master key or a “skeleton key” to many mathematical problems. As one knows, the teeth of an ordinary key prevent it from opening all but one door; whereas the skeleton key keeps only the essential parts, allow it to unlock many doors. The author wishes to present this book as an attempt to re-establish the contacts between algebra and other branches of mathematics and sciences. Many examples and exercises are included to illustrate the power of intuitive approaches to algebra.

Book Concise Guide to Numerical Algorithmics

Download or read book Concise Guide to Numerical Algorithmics written by John Lawrence Nazareth and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-02 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Algorithmic Science and Engineering (NAS&E), or more compactly, Numerical Algorithmics, is the theoretical and empirical study and the practical implementation and application of algorithms for solving finite-dimensional problems of a numeric nature. The variables of such problems are either discrete-valued, or continuous over the reals, or, and as is often the case, a combination of the two, and they may or may not have an underlying network/graph structure. This re-emerging discipline of numerical algorithmics within computer science is the counterpart of the now well-established discipline of numerical analysis within mathematics, where the latter’s emphasis is on infinite-dimensional, continuous numerical problems and their finite-dimensional, continuous approximates. A discussion of the underlying rationale for numerical algorithmics, its foundational models of computation, its organizational details, and its role, in conjunction with numerical analysis, in support of the modern modus operandi of scientific computing, or computational science & engineering, is the primary focus of this short monograph. It comprises six chapters, each with its own bibliography. Chapters 2, 3 and 6 present the book’s primary content. Chapters 1, 4, and 5 are briefer, and they provide contextual material for the three primary chapters and smooth the transition between them. Mathematical formalism has been kept to a minimum, and, whenever possible, visual and verbal forms of presentation are employed and the discussion enlivened through the use of motivating quotations and illustrative examples. The reader is expected to have a working knowledge of the basics of computer science, an exposure to basic linear algebra and calculus (and perhaps some real analysis), and an understanding of elementary mathematical concepts such as convexity of sets and functions, networks and graphs, and so on. Although this book is not suitable for use as the principal textbook for a course on numerical algorithmics (NAS&E), it will be of value as a supplementary reference for a variety of courses. It can also serve as the primary text for a research seminar. And it can be recommended for self-study of the foundations and organization of NAS&E to graduate and advanced undergraduate students with sufficient mathematical maturity and a background in computing. When departments of computer science were first created within universities worldwide during the middle of the twentieth century, numerical analysis was an important part of the curriculum. Its role within the discipline of computer science has greatly diminished over time, if not vanished altogether, and specialists in that area are now to be found mainly within other fields, in particular, mathematics and the physical sciences. A central concern of this monograph is the regrettable, downward trajectory of numerical analysis within computer science and how it can be arrested and suitably reconstituted. Resorting to a biblical metaphor, numerical algorithmics (NAS&E) as envisioned herein is neither old wine in new bottles, nor new wine in old bottles, but rather this re-emerging discipline is a decantation of an age-old vintage that can hopefully find its proper place within the larger arena of computer science, and at what appears now to be an opportune time.

Book Linear Algebra

  • Release : 2012
  • ISBN : 1449613527
  • Pages : 649 pages

Download or read book Linear Algebra written by Ward Cheney and published by Jones & Bartlett Publishers. This book was released on 2012 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ward Cheney and David Kincaid have developed Linear Algebra: Theory and Applications, Second Edition, a multi-faceted introductory textbook, which was motivated by their desire for a single text that meets the various requirements for differing courses within linear algebra. For theoretically-oriented students, the text guides them as they devise proofs and deal with abstractions by focusing on a comprehensive blend between theory and applications. For application-oriented science and engineering students, it contains numerous exercises that help them focus on understanding and learning not only vector spaces, matrices, and linear transformations, but uses of software tools available for use in applied linear algebra. Using a flexible design, it is an ideal textbook for instructors who wish to make their own choice regarding what material to emphasis, and to accentuate those choices with homework assignments from a large variety of exercises, both in the text and online.

  • ISBN : 9780387406275
  • Pages : 484 pages

Download or read book Polynomials written by E.J. Barbeau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-10-09 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book extends the high school curriculum and provides a backdrop for later study in calculus, modern algebra, numerical analysis, and complex variable theory. Exercises introduce many techniques and topics in the theory of equations, such as evolution and factorization of polynomials, solution of equations, interpolation, approximation, and congruences. The theory is not treated formally, but rather illustrated through examples. Over 300 problems drawn from journals, contests, and examinations test understanding, ingenuity, and skill. Each chapter ends with a list of hints; there are answers to many of the exercises and solutions to all of the problems. In addition, 69 "explorations" invite the reader to investigate research problems and related topics.
