Book The Six Pillars of Biblical Power

Download or read book The Six Pillars of Biblical Power written by John Rankin and published by Tei Publishing House. This book was released on 2011-03-02 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There are two choices in life: Give and it will be given or take before you are taken." Imagine yourself at Smith College, and an evangelical minister speaks these words to the president of the National Organization for Women. In a forum where the nature of feminism, marriage and the Bible were in focus, the mostly skeptical audience responded well. Real theology for the grass roots can be summed up in the six pillars of biblical power. This language flows out of an application of the shema that Jesus taught - to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength; and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This is the power to overcome any and all obstacles we face in a broken world: 1.The power to give 2.The power to live in the light 3.The power of informed choice 4.The power to love hard questions 5.The power to love enemies 6.The power to forgive The whole Bible, or Theology 101 if you will, can be summed up in seven words: "God gave, we blew it, he forgave." The powers to give and forgive are the bookends of the Bible, and on the one hand are very simple to understand, but on the other, very difficult to live out. For disciples of Jesus as Lord and Messiah, these six pillars produce honest lives in the presence of all people - believers and unbelievers alike. Even a burned-out skeptic, of the Bible and the church, will find these pillars attractive to the human soul.

Book excerpt: In American culture today, there is a deep inability to communicate across the barricades, especially when the gospel interfaces with politics, the media and academia. In On Common Ground, theologian and proto-apologist John C. Rankin offers six biblical principles to bridge the values gap between believers and skeptics. The six principles: the power to give, the power to live in the light, the power of informed choice, the power to love hard questions, the power to love enemies and the power to forgive are biblically comprehensive and rooted in timeless truth. And when used as the shared language in faith dialogue, Rankin contends, they allow believers and skeptics to move forward together on common ground. Rankin suggests that biblical theology in its essence deals with ethics, how we treat each other and is intensely practical for individuals and communities.

Book The Pillars of Christian Character

Download or read book The Pillars of Christian Character written by John MacArthur and published by Crossway. This book was released on 1998-05-13 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "To love [God] with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." –Jesus' words in Mark 12:33 Without question the crucial issue in living the Christian life is the condition of your heart. Actions may be temporarily deceiving, but ultimately our outward behavior will reflect what's inside, because our internal attitudes form who we really are. Those inner attitudes are also what God deems most important. In this book one of Christianity's most respected Bible teachers and pastors examines the foundational attitudes, or "pillars," of Christian character as outlined in God's Word. Pillars such as genuine faith, obedience, humility, selfless love, forgiveness, self-discipline, gratitude, and worship. To some degree each trait, on its own, marks a person as one of God's own and reveals an active, living faith. Each is an essential element of mature Christianity. But there is transforming power when you combine them in your everyday living as God commands. Your character will be grounded in godliness; you will see things from an eternal perspective; and your faith, your actions, your witness to others will be revitalized from the inside out.

Book The Case for a Creator

Download or read book The Case for a Creator written by Lee Strobel and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-05-18 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the astonishing evidence for intelligent design in this New York Times bestselling book by award-winning journalist Lee Strobel. "My road to atheism was paved by science . . . but, ironically, so was my later journey to God," Strobel says. During his academic years, Lee Strobel became convinced that God was obsolete, a belief that colored his journalism career. Science had made the idea of a Creator irrelevant--or so Strobel thought. But today science points in a different direction. A diverse and impressive body of research has increasingly supported the conclusion that the universe was intelligently designed. At the same time, Darwinism has faltered in the face of concrete facts and hard reason. Has science discovered God? At the very least, it's giving faith an immense boost, as new findings emerge about the incredible complexity of our universe. Join Strobel as he reexamines the theories that once led him away from God. Through his compelling and highly readable account, you'll encounter the mind-stretching discoveries from cosmology, cellular biology, DNA research, astronomy, physics, and human consciousness that present compelling evidence in The Case for a Creator. Also available: The Case for a Creator small group video study and study guide, Spanish edition, kids' edition, student edition, and more.

But are you trying to live this supernatural life without His help? We were created to live so God could demonstrate His power through us. However, many of us turn to our own limited resources when dealing with people and situations. In this fourth study in Ephesians, T.D. Jakes challenges you to answer the following: When God calls you to do something that seems humanly impossible. What is the purpose of "thorns" in your life...and what if God chooses not to remove them? How do you successfully break old, sinful habits and replace them with godly attitudes, behaviors, and reactions? When you rely on the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit to walk out each day, you will experience a life that's "exceeding abundantly" above all you could ask or think. And once you've tasted this overflowing life, you'll never want to turn back!

Book Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome

Download or read book Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome written by R. Kent Hughes and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2008-01-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year thousands of God's servants leave the ministry convinced they are failures. Years ago, in the midst of a crisis of faith, Kent Hughes almost became one of them. But instead he and his wife Barbara turned to God's Word, determined to learn what God had to say about success and to evaluate their ministry from a biblical point of view. This book describes their journey and their liberation from the "success syndrome"-the misguided belief that success in ministry means increased numbers. In today's world it is easy to be seduced by the secular thinking that places a number on everything. But the authors teach that true success in ministry lies not in numbers but in several key areas: faithfulness, serving, loving, believing, prayer, holiness, and a Christlike attitude. Their thoughts will encourage readers who grapple with feelings of failure and lead them to a deeper, fuller understanding of success in Christian ministry. This book was originally published by Tyndale in 1987 and includes a new preface.

The word catechism means "instruction" - this book will serve as the standard for all future catechisms. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is a positive, coherent and contemporary map for our spiritual journey toward transformation.

Book The Six Pillars of Honest Politics

Download or read book The Six Pillars of Honest Politics written by John Rankin and published by Tei Publishing House. This book was released on 2011-03-02 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American political life is presently in a death spiral, drowning in a sea of increasingly complex laws. There is an assault against the unalienable rights of life, liberty and property, orchestrated by the top-down god-state. Can we take Occam's razor, rooted in the proactive, and cut out all the reactive elements? Can we cut out the metastasizing cancer of distrust, and restore the health of trust and simplicity throughout our common political life? Here, there are four ideas for consideration: 1.First, the six pillars of honest politics start with our unique national identity and foundation - unalienable rights given by the Creator that belong to all people equally - life, liberty, property and thus, the power to pursue happiness. Under the second unalienable right, this means that the intrinsic nature of the Gospel advances religious, political and economic liberty for all people equally. 2.Second, these pillars serve a level playing field for all ideas to be heard equally, and by definition, are pre-partisan in nature. 3.Third, these pillars serve checks and balances on power in government, according to the consent of the governed. 4.And fourth is the sharp application of Occam's razor, to "reduce needless redundancies," or to "keep it simple." Here I propose a model for a simplified state constitution and likewise for the U.S. Constitution, to cut state laws and the U.S. Code by well over 99 percent.

Book Seven Pillars of Christianity

Download or read book Seven Pillars of Christianity written by Dr. William Ekane and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2011-09-21 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revelations contained in the Bible serve as a supreme guide by which to measure all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions—and today’s Christians are in steady moral and spiritual decline. A 2010 survey by the Barna Research Group reveals that in American churches, Christians have become less knowledgeable about the Bible, less interested in spiritual disciplines, and more desirous of secular techniques to solve life’s problems, thus blurring the distinction between their conduct and that of nonbelievers. In Seven Pillars of Christianity: An Introduction to the Essential Christian Doctrines, Dr. William Ekane reveals the life-transforming foundations of the Christian faith and issues a clarion call for Christians to return to authentic Christianity. First presenting his compelling case for the scientific reliability and divine origin of the Bible, Dr. Ekane works closely with Scripture as he leads us through everything from the Lord Jesus Christ to trust and faith in the living God to, finally, the five major judgments and Revelation. These practical, strategic insights and essential truths are invaluable to new converts as well as mature believers. The Word of the Holy Spirit offers transformation, illuminating our hearts and minds as we strengthen our spiritual foundation and grow deeper in God.
