Book Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Affairs in the British Press

Download or read book Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Affairs in the British Press written by Martina Topić and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-10-27 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An ecofeminist criticism of neoliberalism, this book uses economic growth, CSR and the press coverage of environmental affairs as a case study. The author argues that CSR is part of a wheel of neoliberalism that continually perpetuates inequality and the exploitation of women and Nature. Using an ecofeminist sense-making analysis of media coverage of food waste, global warming, plastic, economic growth and CSR, the author shows how the press discourse in writing is always similar and serves to preserve the status quo with CSR being just a smokescreen that saved capitalism and just one cog in the wheel of neoliberalism. While available research offers perspectives from business and public relations studies, looking at how CSR is implemented and how it contributes towards the reputation of businesses, this book explores how the media enforce CSR discourse while at the same time arguing for environmental preservation. The book presents a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to explain how and why CSR is being pushed forward by the news media, and how the media preserves the status quo by creating moral panic on environmental issues while at the same time pushing for CSR discourse and economic growth, which only contributes towards environmental degradation. The original research presented in the book looks at how the media write about economic growth, plastics, food waste, CSR and global warming. This interdisciplinary study draws on ecofeminist theory and media feminist theory to provide a novel analysis of CSR, making the case that enforcing CSR as a way to do business damages the environment and that the media enforce a neoliberal discourse of promoting both economic growth and environmentalism, which does not go together. Examining the UK media as a case study, a detailed methodological account is provided so that the study can be repeated and compared elsewhere. The book is aimed at academics and researchers in business and media studies, as well as those in women’s studies. It will also be relevant to scholars in business management and marketing.

Book How to Kill an Elephant

Download or read book How to Kill an Elephant written by Robert Pins and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-11-26 with total page 962 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global warming will either grab your interest or see you running in the opposite direction. But there is another way. It is a truth that is never realized, a truth that cannot surface once buried in the media and in politicians’ singlespeak, and a truth that is tantalizingly beyond your reach. How to Kill an Elephant exposes this truth for all to see, yet this is not a book about global warming; it is a book about human nature exposed for all its inadequacies. It starts with elephants, inexorably being driven to extinction by elephants of our own creation. Where does it finish? That’s for you to decide. Fancy a cane toad sandwich washed down with a cup of tea? Have you ever seen stalactites playing chess? You can expect a deadly serious read with a soupçon of levity and straightforward humour, because life really is too short not to indulge a little.

Book Brexit A Way Forward

Download or read book Brexit A Way Forward written by Marcello Sacco and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The outcome of the European Union membership referendum in 2016 has presented the United Kingdom with one of its greatest challenges of modern times. As negotiations for an exit strategy continue, this volume looks to open up conversations on the socio-legal implications of such a monumental transition. Aimed at addressing issues relating to Brexit that affect every aspect of British society, this book seeks to not just list the problems but to offer viable solutions for “the way forward”. Divided into three parts, this book presents a comprehensive yet accessible discussion of the impact of Brexit on the United Kingdom. Part I brings together three social studies that reveal that Brexit may be the result of international nationalist narratives, and that the choice to leave the EU is already affecting Brits abroad and the future opportunities for British students. Part II turns its attention to national legal issues that are affected such as the Irish border, waste management, moral copyright, and the support of local enterprises. Lastly, Part III investigates commercial law touching on important topics such as international litigation, insolvency and tax law. As this publication suggests eventual solutions to several issues caused by Brexit, it may be of interest to not only other academics working in the field, but also to policy makers and relevant stakeholders.
