Book The Shrink Wrapped Armor of God

Download or read book The Shrink Wrapped Armor of God written by Kathy Barton and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-03-16 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of the wisdom gained from 30 years of working as a Christian counselor. Many people struggle with the same problems year after year and only seem to get temporary relief from self-destructive behavior and thought patterns that undermine their happiness and lessen their quality of life. But by taking wisdom from the Bible and applying it in practical, life-changing ways, you can become a new person, free from the ravages of your past. People who I have counseled often ask why, when theyve been a Christian for so long, theyve never heard these things taught. I dont know the answer to that, but I do know that now is your time to become the person youve dreamed of becoming.

Book excerpt: Shrinking Cities: Understanding Shrinkage and Decline in the United States offers a contemporary look at patterns of shrinkage and decline in the United States. The book juxtaposes the complex and numerous processes that contribute to these patterns with broader policy frameworks that have been under consideration to address shrinkage in U.S. cities. A range of methods are employed to answer theoretically-grounded questions about patterns of shrinkage and decline, the relationships between the two, and the empirical associations among shrinkage, decline, and several socio-economic variables. In doing so, the book examines new spaces of shrinkage in the United States. The book also explores pro-growth and decline-centered governance, which has important implications for questions of sustainability and resilience in U.S. cities. Finally, the book draws attention to U.S.-wide demographic shifts and argues for further research on socio-economic pathways of various groups of population, contextualized within population trends at various geographic scales. This timely contribution contends that an understanding of what the city has become, as it faces shrinkage, is essential toward a critical analysis of development both within and beyond city boundaries. The book will appeal to urban and regional studies scholars from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, as well as practitioners and policymakers.

Book Quietly Shrinking Cities

Download or read book Quietly Shrinking Cities written by Maxwell Hartt and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At 5 percent, Canada’s population growth was the highest of all G7 countries when the most recent census was taken. But only a handful of large cities drove that growth, attracting human and monetary capital from across the country and leaving myriad social, economic, and environmental challenges behind. Quietly Shrinking Cities investigates this trend and the practical challenges associated with population loss in smaller urban centres. Maxwell Hartt meticulously demonstrates that shrinking cities need to rethink their planning and development strategies in response to a new demographic reality, questioning whether population loss and prosperity are indeed mutually exclusive.

Book Shrinking Cities

    Book Details:
  • Author : Karina Pallagst
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2013-08-15
  • ISBN : 1135072221
  • Pages : 335 pages

Download or read book Shrinking Cities written by Karina Pallagst and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The shrinking city phenomenon is a multidimensional process that affects cities, parts of cities or metropolitan areas around the world that have experienced dramatic decline in their economic and social bases. Shrinkage is not a new phenomenon in the study of cities. However, shrinking cities lack the precision of systemic analysis where other factors now at work are analyzed: the new economy, globalization, aging population (a new population transition) and other factors related to the search for quality of life or a safer environment. This volume places shrinking cities in a global perspective, setting the context for in-depth case studies of cities within Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Germany, France, Great Britain, South Korea, Australia, and the USA, which consider specific economic, social, environmental, cultural and land-use issues.

Book Dealing with Deindustrialization

Download or read book Dealing with Deindustrialization written by Margaret Cowell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late 1970s and 1980s saw a process of mass factory closures in cities and regions across the Midwest of the United States. What happened next as leaders reacted to the news of each plant closure and to the broader deindustrialization trend that emerged during this time period is the main subject of this book. It shows how leaders in eight metropolitan areas facing deindustrialization strived for adaptive resilience by using economic development policy. The unique attributes of each region - asset bases, modes of governance, civic capacity, leadership qualities, and external factors - influenced the responses employed and the outcomes achieved. Using adaptive resilience as a lens, Margaret Cowell provides a thorough understanding of how and why regions varied in their abilities to respond to deindustrialization.
