Book Warrior King of Shambhala

Download or read book Warrior King of Shambhala written by Jeremy Hayward and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chögyam Trungpa was born in Tibet and strictly trained in the manner traditional for re-incarnations of great teachers. At the age of 19, he led 300 people over the Himalayas to India in a dramatic escape recounted in his autobiography Born in Tibet. Over the following 30 years, Trungpa became one of the foremost pioneers of Tibetan Buddhism in the West. He was also a highly controversial figure, considered by many to be one of the greatest Buddhist teachers ever to come to the west and viewed with suspicion by others. He taught in a style that went altogether beyond conventional ideas of what a "holy man" should be like, dressing in ordinary western clothes, drinking and taking sexual consorts. He taught in English with a direct and penetrating voice that drew to him many intelligent young students. These memoirs tell the story of the author, Jeremy Hayward, a close student and friend of Trungpa Rinpoche who became a senior teacher and administrator in the organizations Rinpoche established. This intimate chronological account opens with Hayward's first meeting with Trungpa Rinpoche in 1970 and progresses year by year until Rinpoche's death and beyond. Each chapter/year includes some discussion of the teachings that Rinpoche was presenting at that time as well as the context and atmosphere in which these teachings occurred and the evolution of the society and organizations which he inspired. The book should be of interest to all students of Buddhism as well as others interested in the evolution of Buddhism in the west, and possibly other seekers on the spiritual path.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dragon Princess of Shambala is the long awaited finale of The Hidden World Chronicles. Elizabeth Jennings is actually the child who was mentioned in an ancient prophesy. Even at the age of four she knows she is different, but her abilities are held in check. One day she finds out why. She is not of this world and neither are her mother and father or her nanny for that matter. The whole family returns to their real world where Liz finds that she doesn't have to hide her abilities any longer. She is encouraged and finds that there is much to learn in this new world. After befriending a huge dragon by the name of Drake. She is sent along with that dragon on her first mission back to our world at the age of four. In the capital city of Lassa Tibet, the sight of a child riding on the back of a dragon not only fulfilled an ancient Chinese prophesy but began the legend of The Dragon Princess. This is only the exciting start of the many exciting adventures that are in store for this child of The Hidden World. The things she learned, the adventures she lived, both in her world and ours, was leading her to a destiny she could never have dreamed of. Before Liz's birth her mother and father found they were of this world much the way Liz had but only after Dr. Charles Jennings and Dr. Sarah Parker were fully grown. Both having PHD's in the field of ancient history and anthropology they had stumbled on secrets kept since the dawn of man. This was to throw them into the Hidden World where later they were later married. After coming back to our world to teach, Liz was born. It was an action at the university where they were teaching that put everyone's safety in question. Liz and her nanny, Jenny, were picked up in the middle of the night to be taken to safety in the Hidden World. Now that she was in this perfect world her life was to go into high gear. Her knowledge and abilities were to advance to unbelievable heights. She would not realize her true destiny until much later as the events in her life led her to the final conclusion. Because of Liz's father, she had placed her adventures into a journal that was to make it's way to our world. This was much the same way the first two books of this series came about. Journey of the Chosen, The Secrets of the Sword, and Dragon Princess of Shamballa, are all part of The Hidden World Chronicles. Enjoy the adventure but hold on to your seat, because you just may be in for the ride of your life.

Book excerpt: ‘Two shall come by the path of the swan, From the world of men in the fourth age – So shall the word be manifest again. So shall the vessel of truth, The Maitreya, come to be born in the world of men.’ Thus have the ancients of the divine kingdom of Shambala prophesized the birth of a new age and its saviour – the Maitreya. Destined to be the mother of the Maitreya, the golden dakini Yeshe Nam Lha has descended to Earth in the guise of a mortal. Accompanied by her celestial guardians – Prince A-KarO and Prince Narasimha – she must now journey to the hidden Mount Meru in order to choose a suitor, and fulfil the prophecy. As her quest takes her through the sleepy towns of Sikkim and Assam to the snowy mountains of Jammu and Leh, Yeshe and her companions encounter a host of magical creatures – the tsen deities who reside in the caves under the Himalayas, the fey warriors of the celestial city of Ney, and the yakshas, gatekeepers of the hidden tunnels on the way to Mount Meru. But not everyone they meet is benevolent. Prince Arden, leader of the dark Asur forces, is on Yeshe’s trail, hoping to bewitch her with his magnetic charm – and Yeshe must overcome her earthly mortality if she is to make the right choice... Book The Life and Visions of Yesh Tsogyal

Download or read book The Life and Visions of Yesh Tsogyal written by Drime Kunga and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2017-08-22 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This stunning biography reveals the heroic life of Yeshé Tsogyal—the mother of Buddhism in Tibet and a powerful female role model for spiritual accomplishment and perfection This secret life story of Yeshé Tsogyal presents a valuable and unique perspective that is quite a departure from any other account of this remarkable woman. Described as a "secret life story," its many layers include an outer account—detailing her birth, family, and societal constraints—an inner account that begins as she meets and escapes captivity with Guru Rinpoché, and a secret account as she enters twelve years of retreat at Chimpu only to miraculously journey to Oddiyana. The role of women and womanhood is notable throughout her life story. Her desire for independence is at odds with her desirability as a woman, leading to numerous tragic incidents early in life. Finally meeting Guru Rinpoché, she decries her status as a woman. This sort of gendered humility, a recurring theme, is juxtaposed with her assertion that despite being a woman, and low-born (skye ba dman), she has a high regard for herself anyway. It is a magical woman who guides her to Oddiyana, and her travels there are filled with primarily female companions. In the end, she remains Guru Rinpoché's primary disciple and doctrinal custodian. Her experiences, while perhaps intense and fantastical, include the same elements of challenge, learning, and progress that all practitioners must experience. During her adventures in Oddiyana, Yeshé Tsogyal receives the same core teachings on faith, impermanence, and fortitude that are essential for anyone following this spiritual path. This accomplished translation is enriched by the refreshing insights of six contemporary scholars and teachers of Tibetan Buddhism, making this invaluable guide to the life of Yeshé Tsogyal a treasure for practitioners, scholars, and anyone intent on the possibility of awakening.

Book A Guided Tour of Hell

Download or read book A Guided Tour of Hell written by Samuel Bercholz and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2016-12-06 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take a trip through the realms of hell with a man whose temporary visitor’s pass gave him a horrifying—and enlightening—preview of its torments. This true account of Sam Bercholz’s near-death experience has more in common with Dante’s Inferno than it does with any of the popular feel-good stories of what happens when we die. In the aftermath of heart surgery, Sam, a longtime Buddhist practitioner and teacher, is surprised to find himself in the lowest realms of karmic rebirth, where he is sent to gain insight into human suffering. Under the guidance of a luminous being, Sam’s encounters with a series of hell-beings trapped in repetitious rounds of misery and delusion reveal to him how an individual’s own habits of fiery hatred and icy disdain, of grasping desire and nihilistic ennui, are the source of horrific agonies that pound consciousness for seemingly endless cycles of time. Comforted by the compassion of a winged goddess and sustained by the kindness of his Buddhist teachers, Sam eventually emerges from his ordeal with renewed faith that even the worst hell contains the seed of wakefulness. His story is offered, along with the modernist illustrations of a master of Tibetan sacred arts, in order to share what can be learned about awakening from our own self-created hells and helping others to find relief and liberation from theirs.
