Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its humble beginnings in the nineteenth century, Seventh-day Adventism has remarkably grown to become one of America’s largest, home-grown faiths, numbering nearly nineteen million members worldwide. Yet Adventism harbors dark secrets within its history. This is the true story of how one Adventist pastor, and university and seminary professor discovered these dark secrets and learned through painful, personal experience that neither the denomination nor its doctrine could be trusted. As his odyssey takes him from pastoral assignments in rural and urban congregations and finally into teaching religion at an Adventist university, he suddenly finds himself caught up in the maelstrom of a church’s greatest theological crisis. For him, the denomination’s theology and practice agonizingly unravel, forcing him to choose between loyalty to his church, his vocation, and his personal integrity. Rich in anecdotes and personal experiences, Out of Adventism guides readers interested in religious history, cults, and sects through the ins and outs of a religious community in crisis. Along the way, the reader not only gets an insider’s view of Adventism, but also discovers a careful critique of the peculiar teachings of Seventh-day Adventism.

Sheafestrong-willed, dynamic, and seemingly tirelesshad but two main objectives: uplift his people spiritually and socially, and consistently adhere to biblical principle in all aspects of life. In this gripping biography Douglas Morgan pieces together the life of this forgotten leader whose story sheds light on the reason that no lasting, separate Black Adventist denomination ever formed.

Book Seventh Day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine

Download or read book Seventh Day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine written by George R. Knight and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a completely new typeset of the monumental 1957 classic, containing an extensive historical and theological introduction and detailed in-text notations by George R. Knight. Originally produced by the Ministerial Association of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Questions on Doctrine was widely acclaimed and distributed in the late 1950s and early 1960s as a forthright answer to questions from evangelicals about key elements of Adventist doctrine. Controversy regarding the book's position on the nature of Christ and the atonement soon stopped its circulation. As part of the Adventist Classic Library, Knight's essays provide the background for how the book came about and describes the interaction of the principal players involved in the crisis that shelved this classic work for more than a generation.

Book Adventism Re examined 75 Years of Changes Challenges and Choices

Download or read book Adventism Re examined 75 Years of Changes Challenges and Choices written by Gordon Kainer and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book's objective is to describe the beliefs, practices, and ventures of the Adventist church that have had or still have a significant impact on my life. Looking back, I now have a better understanding why ancient Israel was repeatedly told to remember what God had done for them. For this reason, there will be much reminiscing, retelling of personal experiences, and evaluating church teachings and decisions, all in the endeavor to make sense of what has happened. That can only take place if we bathe our words and expressions in grace, love and understanding. The book endeavors to answer the underlying question: what do we mean when we use the term "church"? What are the primary reasons for its existence? When you ask Adventists such a question, we hope they answer with a reply that is inspiring and practical. In presenting my view of Adventism over the past seventy-five years, it's had a positive effect on my knowing and understanding Jesus-and I hope the same goes for you!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proponents of Last Generation Theology are convinced that just before the end of this world there will be a last generation that has gained a complete victory over sin. This is when probation has closed and Christ has finished His work in His heavenly sanctuary. Those who are part of this last generation and have become perfect will now be able to live without a Mediator as they wait for the moment they will be changed "in the twinkling of an eye" (1 Corinthians 15:52) and will be taken by their Lord in their new, immortal bodies into their eternal heavenly abode. This has some very important implications. How can human beings ever reach a state of perfect sinlessness? Believers in Last Generation Theology say this is possible. They point to Christ. He came to this world as one who was like us and, in spite of His humanness, was able to resist all sin. The kind of human nature He took upon Himself, we are told, was exactly like that of Adam after he had fallen into sin. And so, if Christ was in all respects like us, and could be sinless, it must also be possible for human beings to reach the state of sinlessness.

Book Unity in Truth

Download or read book Unity in Truth written by David Martyn Lloyd-Jones and published by EP BOOKS. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edited by Hywel Rees Jones It was just a handful of people; but because of the life that was in it, and the power of the Spirit upon it, the early church was mighty. It shook the world. Today the picture is one of chaos and confusion, within the church as well as outside it. The church has become uncertain of her own message. The Christian faith is being queried, denied and ridiculed almost as never before. The Lord Jesus Christ is reduced to Jesus - a mere man. He has been robbed of his eternal sonship, his unique deity and all his miracles, his atoning work and his literal physical resurrection. Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones calls on evangelicals to unite in a clear and uncompromising stand for the truth once delivered to the saints, in a fearless proclamation of the biblical gospel, which is the only answer to man's desperate need, and in prayer for a fresh outpouring of the power of the Holy Spirit in revival. Dr D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981), one of the most remarkable preachers of this century, exercised a wide and influential ministry, which began in his native Wales and continues today through the many books that have been published. He is especially known as the minister of Westminster Chapel in London, a position he occupied for nearly thirty years. These addresses, originally given under the auspices of the British Evangelical Council (BEC), are still as relevant today as when they were first preached.
