Book The Sexual Life of the Child Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Sexual Life of the Child Classic Reprint written by Albert Moll and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sexual Life of the Child Db. Mom. Is a gifted physician of long experience whose work with those problems of medicine and hygiene which demand scientific acquaintance with human nature has made him well known to experts in these fields. In this book he has undertaken to describe the origin and development, in child hood and youth, of the acts and feelings due to sex; to explain the forces by which sex-responses are directed and misdirected; and to judge the wisdom of existing and proposed methods of preventing the degradation of a child's sexual life. This difficult task is carried out, as it should be, with dignity and frankness. In spite of the best intentions, a scientific book on sex-psychology is likely to appear, at least in spots, to gratify a low curiosity; but in Dr. Moll's book there is no such taint. Popular books on sex-hygiene, on the other hand, are likely to sufier from a pardonable but harmful delicacy whereby the facts of anatomy, physiology, and psychology which are necessary to make their principles comprehensible and useful, are omitted, veiled, or even distorted. Dr. Moll honors his readers by a frankness which may seem brutal to some of them. It is necessary. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Documenting Intimate Matters

Download or read book Documenting Intimate Matters written by Thomas A. Foster and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2012-12-05 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Thorough, and timely . . . sure to be a popular and valued companion to courses on the history of sexuality and gender in the United States.” —Regina Kunzel, University of Minnesota Over time, sexuality in America has changed dramatically. Frequently redefined and often subject to different systems of regulation, it has been used as a means of control; it has been a way to understand ourselves and others; and it has been at the center of fierce political storms, including some of the most crucial changes in civil rights in recent years. Edited by Thomas A. Foster, Documenting Intimate Matters features seventy-two documents that collectively highlight the broad diversity inherent in the history of American sexuality. Complementing the third edition of Intimate Matters, by John D’Emilio and Estelle B. Freedman—often hailed as the definitive survey of sexual history in America—the multiple narratives presented by these documents reveal the complexity of this subject in US history. The historical moments captured in this volume show that, contrary to popular misconception, the history of sexuality is not a simple story of increased freedoms and sexual liberation, but an ongoing struggle between change and continuity.

Book The Literary Legacy of Child Sexual Abuse

Download or read book The Literary Legacy of Child Sexual Abuse written by Beverly Haviland and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-20 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the representation of child sexual abuse in five American novels written from 1850 to the present. The historical range of the novels shows that child sexual abuse is not a new problem, although it has been called by other names in other eras. The introduction explains what literature and literary criticism bring to persistent questions that arise when children are sexually abused. Psychoanalytic concepts developed by Freud, Ferenczi, Kohut, and Lacan inform readings of the novels. Theories of trauma, shame, psychosis, and perversion provide insights into the characters represented in the stories. Each chapter is guided by a difficult question that has arisen from real-life situations of child sexual abuse. Legal and therapeutic interventions respond with their disciplinary resources to these questions as they concern victims, perpetrators, and witnesses. Literary criticism offers another analytic framework that can significantly inform those responses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About Children and Children-no-longer is the long awaited collection of Paula Heimann's published and unpublished papers. From the published work it includes the seminal paper 'On Countertransference' (1950); 'Dynamics and Transference Interpretations' (1956); 'Some Notes on Sublimation' (1959); and 'Notes on the Anal Stage' (1962). In addition, more recent works are published here in English for the first time, describing the author's particular integration of theory and technique. Paula Heimann's ideas on an undifferentiated early phase of infant development and its implications for analytic technique, along with her unique knowledge of both Kleinian object relations and classical theory and technique, make her work very relevant both to present-day practice and the understanding of the historical development of some central psychoanalytic ideas.
