Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Seven Parables of the Kingdom The thirteenth chapter of the gospel of Matthew 1s not only a very interesting, but also a very important chapter, containing as it does the unfolding of the mysteries of the Kingdom of the heavens: even the mystery which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God - Eph. 3: 9. This chapter contains seven parables which according to verse 53 were all delivered by the Savior up on one and the same occasion, and in these seven parables the Lord Jesus clearly sets forth the Truth concerning the establishment and the growth of the Kingdom of the Heavens in this age. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What did Jesus think of the kingdom of God? How did his concept differ from those of his contemporaries, and how does it still pose some stiff challenges for twenty-first-century Christians? Old and New contributes to the study of Jesus' parables as the first comprehensive analysis of the seven kingdom parables assembled in Matthew 13 in a single volume. Martin Emmrich argues that the placement, content, and arrangement of the chapter are highly significant in terms of the overall shape of Matthew's Gospel, as well as offering a timeless witness of Jesus' notion of the coming of his reign. Old and New features some unique exegetical details along with sweeping theological vistas, all of it carefully balanced with edifying illustrations and examples. The work not only deepens the reader's appreciation of the text, but also provides ample incentives for soul-searching reflection.

Book excerpt: This is the third of a series, dealing with familiar Bible topics. Craig first covered The Ten Commandments and then The Nine Beatitudes. He now covers The Eight Kingdom Parables. Eight Kingdom Parables! Are we not accustomed to speaking of "The Seven Parables of the Kingdom" in Matthew 13? Craig contends that the reference to the householder at v.52 should be included, and so he speaks of eight parables. Although basically doctrinal, the book is incisive in the challenge it presents regarding our commitment to sow seed. Are we employing every avenue open to us to communicate the Word of God? Stress is laid on the fact that it is the only method whereby souls are reached for the Kingdom. Craig's expositions and conclusions are well backed up with a multitude of Bible references that demonstrate his wide knowledge of the Scriptures, even those parts that we might regard as obscure. In his introduction, Craig suggests that each chapter of his book can be read in five minutes. We recommend that you devote just a little longer to it! If you are going to digest all that is there, and follow up on the Bible references, it will need some diligent thought. We do trust that the little volume will be really enlightening to those of you who are exploring these things for the first time, and an encouraging refresher course for those of you who have known them for many years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the seven parables of Matthew 13? Why has Jesus listed them in this order and why are only seven parables listed here? This great chapter in Matthew consists of only seven small parables yet in order to understand them in the light our Lord projected them we must first get the thought he had in mind. These words spoken by our Lord in parable form were spoken as much as 60 years before the Book of Revelation was written or even conceived in the mind of John the Revelator while a prisoner on the Isle of Patmos.

Book The Prophetic Parables of Matthew 13

Download or read book The Prophetic Parables of Matthew 13 written by Arthur Pink and published by Darolt Books. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Prophetic Parables of Matthew 13 is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by Arthur Walkington Pink (1 April 1886 – 15 July 1952) was an English Bible teacher who sparked a renewed interest in the exposition of Calvinism or Reformed Theology. Little known in his own lifetime, Pink became "one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century." Arthur Walkington Pink was born in Nottingham, England, to a corn merchant, a devout non-conformist of uncertain denomination, though probably a Congregationalist. Otherwise, almost nothing is known of Pink's childhood or education except that he had some ability and training in music. As a young man, Pink joined the Theosophical Society and apparently rose to enough prominence within its ranks that Annie Besant, its head, offered to admit him to its leadership circle.[4] In 1908 he renounced Theosophy for evangelical Christianity. Desiring to become a minister but unwilling to attend a liberal theological college in England, Pink very briefly studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in 1910 before taking the pastorate of the Congregational church in Silverton, Colorado. In 1912 Pink left Silverton, probably for California, and then took a joint pastorate of churches in rural Burkesville and Albany, Kentucky. In 1916, he married Vera E. Russell (1893–1962), who had been reared in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Pink's next pastorate seems to have been in Scottsville. Then the newlyweds moved in 1917 to Spartanburg, South Carolina, where Pink became pastor of Northside Baptist Church. By this time Pink had become acquainted with prominent dispensationalist Fundamentalists, such as Harry Ironside and Arno C. Gaebelein, and his first two books, published in 1917 and 1918, were in agreement with that theological position. Yet Pink's views were changing, and during these years he also wrote the first edition of The Sovereignty of God (1918), which argued that God did not love sinners and had deliberately created "unto damnation" those who would not accept Christ. Whether because of his Calvinistic views, his nearly incredible studiousness, his weakened health, or his lack of sociability, Pink left Spartanburg in 1919 believing that God would "have me give myself to writing." But Pink then seems next to have taught the Bible with some success in California for a tent evangelist named Thompson while continuing his intense study of Puritan writings.

Download or read book Kingdom Parables written by M. M. Ninan and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2008-07 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathew 13 contains seven parables told in one day in a series all starting with the phrase, "The Kingdom of God is like ......" These are generally known as the Kingdom Parabales. The hermeneutics that apply to these parables goes beyond the basic parable interpretations because we have the interpretations of Jesus himself for some of them. Jesus also seems to assert that these are not just parables but treasures from which generations will be able to draw understandings. Based on this granting of the privilege of interpreting these parables, based on historical experience of the church, Prod. Ninan ventures to correlate the growth of the Church with these parables.
