Book Effect of Alumina Grinding on the Properties of Alumina Supported Palladium Catalysts in Selective Hydrogenation of Acetylene

This book was released on 2008 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, the effects of alumina grinding and mixed oxides (ZnO-Al2O3 and NiO-Al2O3) grinding with various Zn/Al and Ni/Al molar ratios (0.1 and 0.5) prepared by an attrition ball mill on catalytic performance of alumina supported Pd catalysts for selective hydrogenation of acetylene were investigated. It was found that catalytic performances of the Pd catalyst supported on Al2O3 milled for 12 h were superior compared to those of Pd-supported on the unmilled Al2O3. However, all the catalysts prepared from milled mixed oxides presented lower acetylene conversion and ethylene selectivity than that of the catalyst prepared from alumina milled for 12 h. From X-ray diffraction, it was suggested that varying milling time directly affected the crystallite size, surface area and acidity of alumina supports. As revealed by CO chemisorption, milling of Al2O3 supports could increase metal active sites of Pd/Al2O3 catalysts without change in the interaction between Pd and the alumina support so that the catalysts exhibited higher acetylene activity and ethylene selectivity. Moreover, increasing of acidity affected coke formation on the catalysts.

Book Catalytic and Process Study of the Selective Hydrogenation of Acetylene and 1 3 Butadiene

Download or read book Catalytic and Process Study of the Selective Hydrogenation of Acetylene and 1 3 Butadiene written by Ruijun Hou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-05 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis offers novel methods for catalyst and process design for the selective hydrogenation of acetylene and 1,3-butadiene. The author predicts the properties of supported Pd–Ni bimetallic catalysts using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD). The excellent correlation between model surfaces and supported catalysts demonstrates the feasibility of designing effective bimetallic catalysts for selective hydrogenation reactions. The author also proposes a method for designing non-precious metal catalysts to replace precious metals. She modifies the process of selective hydrogenation of acetylene by coupling the selective adsorption to the selective hydrogenation in the liquid phase, as a result of which the ethylene selectivity is greatly improved and heat transfer is greatly enhanced. Lastly, by analyzing the mechanism of liquid-phase hydrogenation, the author proposes a multi-stage slurry bed reactor for industrial applications.“/p>

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like most supplement volumes of the platinum-group metal series,Platinum Suppl. Vol. A 1 has been written by an international team of specialists. It comprises technological data of all six platinum-group metals and their technically relevant alloys and compounds. The volume starts with a review on the recovery of the platinum-group metals (23 pages); the next 42 pages are devoted to processes for separating and refining the PGM in order to obtain metals of high purity. The electrodeposition of the PGM and their alloys is treated on 26 pages. The by far most extensive section deals with PGMand their alloys and compounds in catalysis. After a historicalsurvey and alist of important reviewson PGMcatalysis, the catalytic properties of the metals are treated in a general way, followed by unsupported metals and alloys including preparation of catalysts and their reactions in various industrial processes. The role of supported metals and alloys is described in asimilar manner. This isfollowed byan extensive description of the preparation and the reactions of PGM compounds with various nonmetals and their catalytically active role in a number of industrial processes (226 pages). The last chapter (21 pages) is a compilation of data on the medical use of cytostatic platinum compounds. Book Alkyne Selective Hydrogenation with Mono and Bimetallic Anchored Catalysts

Download or read book Alkyne Selective Hydrogenation with Mono and Bimetallic Anchored Catalysts written by Cecilia Lederhos and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Partial hydrogenation of alkynes has industrial and academic relevance on a large scale; industries such as petrochemical, pharmacological and agrochemical use these compounds as raw material. Finding an economic, active and selective catalyst for the production of alkenes through partial hydrogenation of alkynes is thus an important challenge. Mono- and bimetallic catalysts (palladium, ruthenium and nickel) were synthetized by the incipient wetness technique using gamma alumina and an activated carbon as supports. The catalysts were characterized by inductively coupled plasma, hydrogen chemisorption, temperature-programmed reduction and X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy (XPS). The objective of this work is to study 1-heptyne-selective hydrogenation using supported catalysts influenced by different factors: (a) pretreatment reduction temperature, (b) reaction temperature, (c) type of support, (d) metal loading, (e) precursor salt and (f) addition of a second metal to monometallic palladium catalyst. The Lindlar commercial catalyst, commonly used in these types of reactions, was used for comparative purposes. XPS technique allowed verifying that the presence of electron-deficient species on the catalyst surface with high metal loading affects the conversion and selectivity to the desired product. Nevertheless, the influence of geometrical effects and/or mixed active sites in the catalysts, as well as metal-metal and metal-support interactions, cannot be neglected.

Book Selective Hydrogenation of Acetylene Over Pd Au and PdAu Supported Nanoparticles

Download or read book Selective Hydrogenation of Acetylene Over Pd Au and PdAu Supported Nanoparticles written by Michael Walker and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The removal of trace amounts of acetylene in ethylene streams is a high-volume industrial process that must possess high selectivity of alkyne hydrogenation over hydrogenation of alkenes. Current technology uses metallic nanoparticles, typically palladium or platinum, for acetylene removal. However, problems arise due to the deactivation of the catalysts at high temperatures as well as low selectivities at high conversions. Pore expanded MCM-41 is synthesized via a two-step strategy in which MCM-41 was prepared via cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMABr) followed by the hydrothermal treatment with N,N-dimethyldecylamine (DMDA). This material was washed with ethanol to remove DMDA, or calcined to remove both surfactants. PE-MCM-41 based materials were impregnated with palladium, gold, and palladium-gold nanoparticles. The removal of DMDA had an effect on both the conversion and selectivity, in which they were found to drop significantly. However, by using the bimetallic PdAu catalysts, higher selectivity could be achieved due to increased electron density.

Book Liquid phase Hydrogenation on Pd Catalyst Supported on Solvothermal derived ZnAI subscritp 2 O subscript 4

Download or read book Liquid phase Hydrogenation on Pd Catalyst Supported on Solvothermal derived ZnAI subscritp 2 O subscript 4 written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The characteristics and catalytic properties of solvothermal derived ZnAI [subscritp 2]O[subscript 4] supported palladium catalysts were investigated and compared in terms of catalytic activities for liquid-phase hydrogenation of 1-hetyne, 1-heptene selectivities and catalyst deactivation to those of solvothermal derived AI[subscript 2]O[subscript3] and ZnO supported Pd catalysts. It was found that the solvothermal derived ZnAI[subscript 2]O[subscript 3], ZnO formed single crystallite. The palladium catalysts supported on solvothermal derived ZnAI[subscript 2]O[subscript 4] and ZnAI[subscript 2]O[subscript 3] calcined at higher temperature exhibited better performances than those supported on the supports calcined at lower temperatures. Moreover, it was found that Pd catalyst support on solvothermal-derived alpha alumina exhibited the higher activity than those supported on commercial one. For catalyst deactivation, Pd catalysts on the supports calcined at high temperature showed lower amount of Pd leaching.
