Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Secret Victory England at the present time, is dying spiritually of acute egomania. In reading the manuscript of this trilogy you encountered characters whom you had met in earlier novels if at some future time you have the patience to read those later novels which have been executed, or at least planned, but not yet published, you are more than likely to meet some of them again. The practice of carrying certain characters from one book to another is hardly so much an arrogant assumption that the public has made their acquaintance in a former presentation as an effort to give additional verisimilitude to a picture which is being built Up in sections an academic his tory of the years before the war, of the war itself and of the years following it would inevitably introduce, in volume after volume, some at least of the same warriors, states men, financiers and social leaders if, in an imaginary pic ture of the same period, the novelist ofl'ends by following the same method, he offends in the consoling company of Balzac, Disraeli and Thackeray among the dead and of Galsworthy and Mackenzie among the living. Book Secrets of Victory Classic Reprint

Download or read book Secrets of Victory Classic Reprint written by Carrie Judd Montgomery and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-25 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Secrets of Victory This morning we will look at a few texts on the subject of redemption. First, let us consider what redemption means: it is to buy back. We might get an idea of its meaning from the following illus tration: a person becomes poverty-stricken, and he takes an article which he has long valued, to the pawn shop, where he receives a sum of money on it, but not its full value. The person receives a ticket from the pawnbroker and when he is able to do so he can go and buy back the article, - redeem it. We were in the Devil's pawnshop, but Jesus came and by His precious blood redeemed us out of it. When an ar tiele is bought back, or redeemed, it does not belong any longer to the pawnbroker. If we can see by faith that the Lord Jesus has redeemed our bodies as well as our souls, we need not stay in the Devil's pawnshop and let him put sickness upon us. Download or read book The Secret of Progress Classic Reprint written by W. Cunningham and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 2016-10-16 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Secret of Progress Buckle1 regarded it as clear that militarism and high intellectual development were not compatible: till recently, many people were prepared to believe that warfare was alien to the interest of civilised peoples and could only occur among half civilised or backward races. But this war has shown that these hopes were vain, and that the last result of civilisation was not to render war impossible, but to give the means of carrying it out on a vastly extended scale. The increase of knowledge and of power over nature, and the sense of the benefits of intercourse and inter-communication have not sufficed to give us any immunity from war. Kiss me the way you think a bad girl would and we’ll both have a much better time.’” Sportswriter Judd Mackie has earned fame with his scathing columns. Women’s tennis pro Stevie Corbett is a favorite target of his sarcastic prose. In his view, she’s too focused on being a cute, crowd-pleaser to be taken seriously as an athlete on the court. What Stevie’s nemesis doesn’t know is that she’s suffering a medical condition that’s all too serious and potentially ruinous to her career. When Judd uncovers the sensational story, he recognizes it as one that comes along only once in a lifetime...but telling it would cost him the woman he now doesn’t want to live without.

Book The Victory of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Victory of God Classic Reprint written by James Reid and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Victory of God "And Joseph said, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive." - Gen. 1. 19, 20. From his youth upwards we recognize in Joseph a man with a great soul. He has all the marks of it He never falls beneath his best. He is always the. same, whether you meet him in a prison or in a palace. His circumstances, whatever they may be, become a background for his qualities, as the night becomes a background for the stars. In a moment of blinding temptation he is the soul of chivalry. In a prison, where he was kept for years, his greatness makes its mark, and he comes to the front. In the national crisis in Egypt, when they are faced with famine, he takes the situation in hand and saves the country. The stiffest test of a really great soul is the hour of prosperity. "It takes a steady hand to carry a full cup." Perhaps that is the reason why God often sends with the success that may come to us, something to humble us, to steady us, to keep us alive to Him, and open to the movings of His spirit. In any case prosperity only emphasizes the sterling quality of Joseph. In this hour which our story describes, his greatness outshines itself.
