Book excerpt: In the 1980's, people in Dickenson County, VA were united by coal, church, and high school football. The crime rate was low, confidence was high, and it was an ideal place for people of all ages to live. However, in April of 1987, three Clintwood High School seniors witnessed something that changed their outlook entirely. They made a pact to never discuss what they saw; an agreement that would cause each of them to suffer a lifetime of fear, exacerbated by a constant replaying of the horrific event in their nightmares. Twenty-seven years later, one of them returned to town for the final football game at Ralph Cummins Stadium, and inadvertently came face to face with the person he believed was responsible for their constant fright. His friends refused to help him confront the monster, so he enlisted the help of a deputy sheriff, and took matters into his own hands. Only, things were not exactly as they seemed. When it appeared as though a teenage girl was going to meet a similar fate to the victim from 1987, a showdown ensued that brought out a shocking secret. Justice could not be served in the traditional manner, but could it be served at all? And, were there any actual winners? You decide, after reading The Secret of Rockhouse. The author describes The Secret of Rockhouse as a "A one-third true autobiography, disguised as a B-grade murder mystery." He set out to write about his life in a work that only his close family would read. However, once he began putting pen to paper, he decided to have some fun with it and live out his dream of being a rock star through the story-line. The murder mystery component was an afterthought that he decided to add for fun. He hopes his family, friends, and the people in his home county, will enjoy the finished product. Of course, if you don't fit into that demographic, he hopes you read and enjoy anyway!

Sedona seems to reflect the best qualities, or perhaps I should say “combined†qualities, the essences and elements, of the Great Pyramids, Glastonbury, Stonehenge, Ayers Rock, Mount Shasta, the South American Pyramids, Peru, Tibet, Nepal, India, Lourdes, and many other power places around the world. How can I make such a claim? For the reason that I interact on a regular basis with individuals from virtually every corner of the Earth who have spent time in those sacred and mysterious places. Through these travelers, I have learned that there is simply no other place like Sedona.

Download or read book Sam Phillips The Man Who Invented Rock n Roll written by Peter Guralnick and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rare audio interviews and exclusive video clips are among the special features of this enhanced ebook. The author of the critically acclaimed Elvis Presley biography Last Train to Memphis brings us the life of Sam Phillips, the visionary genius who singlehandedly steered the revolutionary path of Sun Records. The music that he shaped in his tiny Memphis studio with artists as diverse as Elvis Presley, Ike Turner, Howlin' Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash, introduced a sound that had never been heard before. He brought forth a singular mix of black and white voices passionately proclaiming the vitality of the American vernacular tradition while at the same time declaring, once and for all, a new, integrated musical day. With extensive interviews and firsthand personal observations extending over a 25-year period with Phillips, along with wide-ranging interviews with nearly all the legendary Sun Records artists, Guralnick gives us an ardent, unrestrained portrait of an American original as compelling in his own right as Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, or Thomas Edison. This enhanced edition includes: Exclusive video clips featuring the author's interviews with Sam Phillips, his family, and his Sun Studios collaborators Jack Clement, Roland James, and J.M. Van Eaton. Rare audio interviews with Sam Phillips, spanning 1979 to 1990, as well as audio interviews with Carl Perkins, Billy Sherrill, and Phillips's former assistant Marion Keister.

In these writings resides a disclosure of my person by period, and some at least of a message of the gospel not only to me but also to my age. These are rhema revelation to my spirit, and soul of Him who governs the universe. It is through the stories of Jesus that I have strived to write what is deepest in me. It is noble evidence, which has never yet perhaps elaborated, as it deserves. I bring to this work the culture and thoughts of my time and added whatever my own inner soul in its quest to know God and his working could supply. May God bless these Words He has given and revealed to me. This is Karen Marie A continuing of His Work in His Name shall be done. Thoughts out of many hearts should be revealed. Book excerpt: Three fairly young, sheltered sisters, Ronnie, ReNae and Monica learn to cope with relocating from a small rural area in New Jersey to the big, fast paced life of Atlanta, Georgia. Having very little street knowledge of a big city, the girls are forced to learn about the tough and unloving streets through interacting with different people from walks of life in which they are not accustomed to. They learn about love, hurt and how to make the right decisions. The young ladies finds themselves falling into the arms of strong, masculine and powerful men that would eventually blow their minds, but also takes them a ride they'd never forget. Although the signs of danger and deceit stares them directly in the face, they choose to tough it out until danger shows up on their front doorstep. Ronnie, the middle sister, starts out as a young, na ve, respectable, and sassy woman in a round about way. She ends up in an uncompromising relationship that her mother strongly disapproves of. Ronnie feels as if her mother is being extremely overbearing and oblivious of her feelings. When Ronnie discovers how domineering her drug lord boyfriend, Rock, is she then realizes that everything her mother has been preaching is in fact the truth. Renae, the oldest sister of the three, tries to be Ronnie's guardian angel, but she soon find herself caught up in the drug game as well. Nae takes a liking to one of Rock's right hand men. In dire need of money, Nae reluctantly takes a job as a dancer in a club owned by some of Rock's relatives, and later ends up in a bad situation gone worse. Monica, the youngest sister, primarily focuses on finishing law school, but also befriends Rock's closest cousin, and right hand man, Trey. Upon Monie's graduation, she plans an extremely big graduation party that is shortly followed by an unexpected engagement proposal. A catastrophic tragedy occurs, that instantaneously deters Monie's wedding plans. Sha Rhonda Dukes is a New Jersey native. She acquired a love for Greek Mythology and creative writing during her high school years. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1994, with the intent to eventually become an entertainer. After going through a handful of failed relationships, she decided to use them as learning experiences. She would later take some of her own personal experiences along with some from her siblings and friends to turn them into a story. After holding on to a vision for nearly ten years, Sha Rhonda suddenly became adamant about sharing her vision with the world. She asked herself how she would make it all come about. She had no connections or mentors to learn what it took to be a successful writer. After hearing that one of her childhood friends released a CD, it only inspired her even more to make it all come together. She is deeply inspired by the awesome works of Tyler Perry. Kimberla Lawson Roby, Terri McMillan, Omar Tyree, Michael Baisden and Yolanda Rabb are a few of her favorite authors.

Book An Historical Geography of Tourism in Victoria Australia

Download or read book An Historical Geography of Tourism in Victoria Australia written by Ian D. Clark and published by De Gruyter Open. This book was released on 2014-06-01 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Historical Geography of Tourism in Victoria, Australia – Case studies is concerned with the emergence of tourism in colonial Victoria, Australia. It explores a fundamental set of questions: how does a tourist site come in to being? How does a tourist gaze emerge in a ‘settler society’? How does an ‘era of discovery’ segue into ‘tourism’? And, how was the tourist map of Victoria created by settler colonists? Through the application of the classical models of MacCannell, Butler, and Gunn to construct the history of tourism at eight case studies, this work shows that Victoria’s tourism landscape is dynamic and constantly changing. There are many other significant natural and cultural attractions in Victoria and much more research needs to be undertaken to understand more fully the evolution of Victoria’s tourism landscape.
