Many dogs jump, walk over stumps, while others, hump trees, and slobber and sneeze-snotty big puffy dog snot all over the veterinarian's car-lot. THERE GOES ANOTHER BLACK AND WHITE SPOT ON A DALMATIAN at ladder 49, Fireman Station. Look! there goes another dog playing a puppy dog game on a Poopy PlayStation. Whatta' crazy dog congregation, praying for dog food conservation. What? that's whack. I better get back on track. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS HEAVILY POPULATED DOG NATION? Somebody change that cable Dog Station. Some dogs are Cop Dogs and smell drugs, give cops hugs, and other brave dogs, find ticking time bombs. I'd hate that job. I give that dog, PROPS. Wow! OH YES! SOME DOGS LOVE HUNTING FOR BIRDS, unheard in the city, but hound dogs like dazzling ducks and swim in the water like-otters. Other dogs chase sheep and cows, how? Easy, humans train them, tame them, domesticate them, like ten thousand years ago, who knows? The decision to include a photo of the pet of the poet was an easy one. Most of the poets whose work you will see in this collection include the displaying of their pets with their poems. Several of our poets wrote wonderful poems about long-gone pets from their childhood years. And because some of these pets crossed over many years ago, they did not have a photo of their pet. Such is life. We are not always able to carry the physical memories, such as photos, writings, and maybe even old 8 mm movies of our pets with us on our journey through the years. But as long as we have the memories of our pets, from no matter how long ago, we can still pay tribute to them by writing about them. As the submissions of poems started arriving for this collection; the number of tributes to pets that had crossed over the proverbial "Rainbow Bridge" dominated the field. Although I am not a psychology major, I realized my request for poems about Cats & Dogs became a healing tool for those still grieving the loss of a pet. If writing a poem can heal someone's sorrow, so be it. I am all for that. As you read many of these poems, you will come to see, without the kindness of the many people who adopted strays or otherwise unwanted cats & dogs from one of the thousands of animal rescue organizations across America, the outcome for the time these animals had in this world would not have been pleasant.
