Book The Secret

Download or read book The Secret written by Byron Preiss and published by ibooks. This book was released on 2016-10-05 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tale begins over three-hundred years ago, when the Fair People—the goblins, fairies, dragons, and other fabled and fantastic creatures of a dozen lands—fled the Old World for the New, seeking haven from the ways of Man. With them came their precious jewels: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls... But then the Fair People vanished, taking with them their twelve fabulous treasures. And they remained hidden until now... Across North America, these twelve treasures, over ten-thousand dollars in precious jewels, are buried. The key to finding each can be found within the twelve full color paintings and verses of The Secret. Yet The Secret is much more than that. At long last, you can learn not only the whereabouts of the Fair People's treasure, but also the modern forms and hiding places of their descendants: the Toll Trolls, Maitre D'eamons, Elf Alphas, Tupperwerewolves, Freudian Sylphs, Culture Vultures, West Ghosts and other delightful creatures in the world around us. The Secret is a field guide to them all. Many "armchair treasure hunt" books have been published over the years, most notably Masquerade (1979) by British artist Kit Williams. Masquerade promised a jewel-encrusted golden hare to the first person to unravel the riddle that Williams cleverly hid in his art. In 1982, while everyone in Britain was still madly digging up hedgerows and pastures in search of the golden hare, The Secret: A Treasure Hunt was published in America. The previous year, author and publisher Byron Preiss had traveled to 12 locations in the continental U.S. (and possibly Canada) to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1984 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum. Preiss was killed in an auto accident in the summer of 2005, but the hunt for his casques continues.

Book excerpt: Jemima: I wanted to be naughty, so I sign up for an event called the “Virgin Hunt.” Except that this isn’t a figure of speech because it’s the real thing. A handsome man goes out into a field and hunts down a bunch of smiling, giggling girls. What I didn’t expect? That Zane Cathcart would catch me … before pinning me down and making me moan. Zane: I savor the club’s Virgin Hunts. I appreciate seeing women’s curves fly as their long hair streams in the breeze. I like watching them giggle as their rumps shake, before finally tackling one or two of the sweet things. But of course, the hunt doesn’t stop there because this pursuit was designed with a purpose in mind. There’s a particularly pretty brunette this year with a big smile and voluptuous figure, and if everything goes according to plan, then she’ll be pregnant by the time this hunt is done. This is a follow-up to Party Toy for 2 Men. Jemima’s determined to find her way to New York City, but when she arrives, she gets the shock of her life because Club Sanctum is everything she envisioned and more. We ain’t in Kansas anymore, Toto! Strap on your seatbelts for a wild ride … or don’t because the hunt is ON. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and always a HEA for my readers.

Book excerpt: Draoideachta is the Gaelic word for magic in Ireland, a place of mystery, mists, and old gods, the Tuatha Dé Danann. Long ago, the magic practitioner Saint Patrick in a takeover bid banished the Tuatha and locked away all magic, but today his church is dying, hemorrhaging magic. In a comeback play, the old gods send forward in time a man cursed by the Morrigan. Padraic O’Duibh is the long-haired, woad-tattooed son of an Irish god and a human mother. Personally, he’d rather be in hell than champion for the cute-hoor Irish gods. Never take money from a fairy. Mealla O’Conner, a Métis by birthright, half Irish, and half Native American from Canada has a website, Trainingintotemism dot com that also does WICCA. As an entrepreneur not a believer, she now has to learn what she is and what she has to bring to the fight the hard way, while doing. At the sights of holy wells, portal tombs, dolmans, and fairy forts, the veil between worlds is tearing. Practitioner/priests are summoning the dead. With Cork City as collateral damage, a magical free-for-all-feck-a-thon on the mist-shrouded island has begun.

Book SAS The First Secret Wars

Download or read book SAS The First Secret Wars written by Tim Jones and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2005-04-22 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The covert, clandestine operations of the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS), from the jungles of Malaya, Borneo and Brunei to the deserts and mountains of the Middle East have always been the focus of intense fascination, stoked by the regiment's 'closed' organization and secretive activities. Yet no period of activity has remained more secret than the vital years in the immediate aftermath of World War Two. Official histories have it that the SAS was disbanded in October 1945 and it took the Malaya emergency to resurrect it. However, Tim Jones's fascinating history pieces together the evidence to show that while the Malaya emergency undoubtedly re-established the SAS as a unique source of counter-guerilla expertise, the regiment never disbanded, and was covertly involved in the Greek Civil War 1945-49 on the anti-communist side. Here the SAS fought its most important and difficult battle - the battle for survival - when salvation depended on a few dedicated visionaries and persistent champions. The author draws upon a mass of unpublished evidence and also reveals hitherto unknown plans for SAS forces in Libya and Iraq, as well as covert activities in Palestine, Korea and Malaya. Revealing important military secrets and shedding new light on post-war history, this book will be essential reading for enthusiasts of twentieth-century and military history.

Book Secret Treasure of Oak Island

Download or read book Secret Treasure of Oak Island written by D'Arcy O'Connor and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-08-24 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It started on a summer afternoon in 1795 when a young man named Daniel McGinnis found what appeared to be an old site on an island off the Acadian coast, a coastline fabled for the skullduggery of pirates. The notorious Captain Kidd was rumored to have left part of his treasure somewhere along here, and as McGinnis and two friends started to dig, they found what turned out to be an elaborately engineered shaft constructed of oak logs, nonindigenous coconut mats, and landfill that came to be known as the Money Pit. Ever since that summer day in 1795, the possibility of what might be hidden in the depths of a small island off the south coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, has made it the site of the world's longest, most expensive, and most perplexing treasure hunt. Author D'Arcy O'Connor recounts the fascinating stories and amazing discoveries of past and current treasure seekers who have sought Oak Island's fabled treasure for over two hundred years. It has baffled scientists and madmen, scholars and idiots, millionaires and get-rich-quick schemers, psychics, engineers, charlatans, and even a former president of the United States. The island has consumed the fortunes-and in some cases, the lives-of those who have obsessively set out to unlock its secret. Despite all their efforts, the mystery remains unsolved, and not a single dime of treasure has ever been recovered. The present-day search is an archaeological dig exceeding anything ever done anywhere for similar purposes, and it may well result in the discovery of one of the world's richest and most historically significant treasures. But this is also the story of individuals who have dedicated years of their lives to discover what was buried long ago beneath this strange island. They are driven by a lust for gold, by archaeological curiosity, and by their determination to outwit the engineer who was responsible for the Oak Island enigma.
