Book The Search for the Flat Ness Monster

Download or read book The Search for the Flat Ness Monster written by Ron Whittaker and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-03-04 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When he first began the ICT, Ron envisioned that it would take from five to ten years to complete the trail. He had the feeling that when he signed up for his first ICT hike that he was about to step into the company of some elite hikers. It was very humbling for him to struggle along for thirteen miles that day, always the last one down the trail, trying to catch up to the others. Asthma made him much slower than most hikers. As his journey progressed, he met another hiker who was on the same quest. Together, they hiked about half of Idaho. He had much to learn about traveling in wilderness areas. Over time, his conditioning, skills, and confidence improved, and he began to venture on solo hikes. His journey across Idaho was not a continuous line of progress. He completed the trail in the most random and hopscotch fashion that one could imagine. Along the way, there were many interesting experiences and encounters, including a near fatal slide in the snow that almost ended the quest. Despite sometimes slow progress, frustrating setbacks, and physical limitations, he was able to experience the diverse and incredibly beautiful state of Idaho, with its ever changing topography and climate. He traveled the high deserts of the south, the Snake River plains, the Sawtooth Wilderness, the massive Salmon River canyon, the Gospel Hump Wilderness, the highlands of the Idaho-Montana Stateline Trail, the panhandle territory, the Selkirk range, the shores of Priest Lake, and arrived at last at Upper Priest River waterfall. It was a defining journey for Ron. He highly recommends the Idaho Centennial Trail to any prospective person who is considering either a thru-hike or a project of several years.

Book excerpt: From two-time Carnegie Medal winner Patrick Ness comes an enthralling and provocative new novel chronicling the life — or perhaps afterlife — of a teen trapped in a crumbling, abandoned world. A boy named Seth drowns, desperate and alone in his final moments, losing his life as the pounding sea claims him. But then he wakes. He is naked, thirsty, starving. But alive. How is that possible? He remembers dying, his bones breaking, his skull dashed upon the rocks. So how is he here? And where is this place? It looks like the suburban English town where he lived as a child, before an unthinkable tragedy happened and his family moved to America. But the neighborhood around his old house is overgrown, covered in dust, and completely abandoned. What’s going on? And why is it that whenever he closes his eyes, he falls prey to vivid, agonizing memories that seem more real than the world around him? Seth begins a search for answers, hoping that he might not be alone, that this might not be the hell he fears it to be, that there might be more than just this. . . .

Book The Not Terribly Good Book of Heroic Failures

Download or read book The Not Terribly Good Book of Heroic Failures written by Stephen Pile and published by Faber & Faber. This book was released on 2012-10-04 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Last year Stephen Pile attempted to deliver a daring blow to the success ethic that so pervades Western culture. To his dismay, The Ultimate Book of Heroic Failures sold many copies and even became the Sunday Times 'Humour Book of the Year.' Nothing daunted, Stephen returns with a new selection which brings together the very best of his original classic titles - The Book of Heroic Failures and The Return of Heroic Failures. The heartwarming news that stays news is that there really is no limit to what humanity can achieve, as we move onwards and downwards to ever more immortal and breathtaking feats of incompetence. The Not Terribly Good Book of Heroic Failures lovingly chronicles the all-time heroes who have been so bad at things that they shine as beacons for future generations. It is hard not to feel boundless admiration, for example, for the fifty Mexican convicts who dug an escape tunnel out of their jail and came up in the courtroom where many of them had been sentenced. Or for the world's worst tourist, who spent three days in New York believing he was in Rome.
