Book Object Oriented Data Analysis

Download or read book Object Oriented Data Analysis written by J. S. Marron and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Object Oriented Data Analysis is a framework that facilitates inter-disciplinary research through new terminology for discussing the often many possible approaches to the analysis of complex data. Such data are naturally arising in a wide variety of areas. This book aims to provide ways of thinking that enable the making of sensible choices. The main points are illustrated with many real data examples, based on the authors' personal experiences, which have motivated the invention of a wide array of analytic methods. While the mathematics go far beyond the usual in statistics (including differential geometry and even topology), the book is aimed at accessibility by graduate students. There is deliberate focus on ideas over mathematical formulas. J. S. Marron is the Amos Hawley Distinguished Professor of Statistics, Professor of Biostatistics, Adjunct Professor of Computer Science, Faculty Member of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Curriculum and Research Member of the Lineberger Cancer Center and the Computational Medicine Program, at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Ian L. Dryden is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Florida International University in Miami, has served as Head of School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Nottingham, and is joint author of the acclaimed book Statistical Shape Analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Hito Steyerl's writing we begin to see how, even if the hopes and desires for coherent collective political projects have been displaced onto images and screens, it is precisely here that we must look frankly at the technology that seals them in. The Wretched of the Screen collects a number of Steyerl's landmark essays from recent years in which she has steadily developed her very own politics of the image. Twisting the politics of representation around the representation of politics, these essays uncover a rich trove of information in the formal shifts and aberrant distortions of accelerated capitalism, of the art system as a vast mine of labor extraction and passionate commitment, of occupation and internship, of structural and literal violence, enchantment and fun, of hysterical, uncontrollable flight through the wreckage of postcolonial and modernist discourses and their unanticipated openings. e-flux journal Series edited by Julieta Aranda, Brian Kuan Wood, Anton Vidokle

Book Quantitative Methods in Tourism

Download or read book Quantitative Methods in Tourism written by Rodolfo Baggio and published by Channel View Publications. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this revised second edition, Baggio and Klobas build upon the work of their previous volume, offering a presentation of quantitative research methods for tourism researchers. This accessible and rigorous guide goes beyond the approaches usually covered in introductory textbooks on quantitative methods to consider useful techniques for statistical inquiry into tourism matters of all but the most econometrically complex kind. The first part of the book concerns common issues in statistical analysis of data and the most widely-used techniques, while the second part describes and discusses several newer and less common approaches to data analysis that are valuable for tourism researchers and analysts. Updates to the second edition include: • a new chapter on “Big Data” • consideration of data screening and cleaning • the use of similarity and diversity indexes for comparing samples • observations about the partial least squares (PLS) approach to path modelling • a new section on multi-group structural equation modelling • a new section on common method variance and its treatment • revised and updated section on software • fully updated references and examples

Book excerpt: During the last decade, the French-speaking scientific community developed a very strong research activity in the field of Knowledge Discovery and Management (KDM or EGC for “Extraction et Gestion des Connaissances” in French), which is concerned with, among others, Data Mining, Knowledge Discovery, Business Intelligence, Knowledge Engineering and SemanticWeb. The recent and novel research contributions collected in this book are extended and reworked versions of a selection of the best papers that were originally presented in French at the EGC 2009 Conference held in Strasbourg, France on January 2009. The volume is organized in four parts. Part I includes five papers concerned by various aspects of supervised learning or information retrieval. Part II presents five papers concerned with unsupervised learning issues. Part III includes two papers on data streaming and two on security while in Part IV the last four papers are concerned with ontologies and semantic.

Book excerpt: Rupert didn't especially want to be a prince. And he certainly never asked to be the second son of a royal line that really didn't need a spare. So he was sent out to slay a dragon and prove himself-a quest straight out of legend. But he also discovered the kinds of things legends tend to leave out, as well as the usual demons, goblins, the dreaded Night Witch-and even worse terrors hidden in the shadows of Darkwood. Rupert did find a fiery dragon-and a beautiful princess to rescue. But the dragon turned out to be a better friend than anyone back at the castle, and with the evil of Darkwood spreading, Rupert was going to need all the friends he could get.

Book A Step by Step Guide to Exploratory Factor Analysis with SPSS

Download or read book A Step by Step Guide to Exploratory Factor Analysis with SPSS written by Marley W. Watkins and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-21 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a concise, easy to use, step-by-step guide for applied researchers conducting exploratory factor analysis (EFA) using SPSS. In this book, Dr. Watkins systematically reviews each decision step in EFA with screen shots and code from SPSS and recommends evidence-based best-practice procedures. This is an eminently applied, practical approach with few or no formulas and is aimed at readers with little to no mathematical background. Dr. Watkins maintains an accessible tone throughout and uses minimal jargon to help facilitate grasp of the key issues users will face while applying EFA, along with how to implement, interpret, and report results. Copious scholarly references and quotations are included to support the reader in responding to editorial reviews. This is a valuable resource for upper-level undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as for more experienced researchers undertaking multivariate or structure equation modeling courses across the behavioral, medical, and social sciences.

Book Adoption of LMS in Higher Educational Institutions of the Middle East

Download or read book Adoption of LMS in Higher Educational Institutions of the Middle East written by Rashid A. Khan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the adoption of learning management systems (LMS) in higher education institutions. It presents influential predictors that may impact instructors’ behavioral intention to adopt learning management systems in the context of Arab culture, as well as a unique model of technology acceptance that draws on and combines previous technology adoption models (i.e., a modified unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model – UTAUT2). Moreover, this study extends the UTAUT2 model by including Hofstede’s (1980) cultural dimensions, and technology awareness as the moderators of the model. It also describes the explanatory technique approach used to collect quantitative data from the instructors at higher education institutions in Saudi Arabia and were analyzed with structural equation modeling using SPSS/Amos software. The findings revealed that facilitating conditions were the strongest predictor of behavioral intention to adopt an LMS, followed by performance expectancy and hedonic motivation, technology awareness, and cultural dimensions exerted a moderating influence on instructors’ behavioral intention to use LMS in their teaching. By including new constructs, this becomes the first study of its kind exploring instructors’ use of LMS in Higher Educational Institutions of Saudi Arabia and other countries of the Middle East. It offers practical insights for a broad range of researchers and professionals at higher education institutions and serves as a reference guide for designers of learning management systems (e.g., blackboard systems), policymakers, and the Ministry of Education staff.

Book Psychometrics

  • ISBN : 1452256802
  • Pages : 473 pages

Download or read book Psychometrics written by R. Michael Furr and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2014 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Psychometrics, R Michael Furr and Verne R Bacharach centre their presentation of material around a conceptual understanding of psychometric issues, such as validity and reliability, and on purpose rather than procedure, the ′why′ rather than the ′how to′. By emphasizing concepts over mathematical proofs and by focusing on practical significance, this book will assist students in appreciating not just how measurement problems can be addressed but why it is important to address them. The Second Edition has been thoroughly revised to improve the clarity and accessibility of key concepts and to increase the depth of discussions. Many new tables and figures have been added and the references have been significanly updated and expanded. An entirely new chapter on confirmatory factor analysis has also been added to this edition. This new chapter focuses on the use of CFA to evaluate measurement models, including in-depth discussion of the logic and interpretation of the process. Key features of this volume: - presents information in a clear, easy-to-read, conversational style: the authors introduce concepts in a way that is accessible to non-professionals without sacrificing the academic integrity of the material - highlights practical applications: intended to enhance readers′ appreciation of the importance of psychometrics, the book provides examples that will resonate with students - offers an up-to-date treatment of topics in psychometrics: the book offers readers the most contemporary views of topics in psychometrics available in the non-technical psychometric literature - introduces statistical procedures in the context of their use rather than in a separate chapter: the authors integrate statistics with a discussion of their use as tools to solve particular psychometric problems, encouraging a more complete understanding of both.

Book Methods of Research in Sport Sciences

Download or read book Methods of Research in Sport Sciences written by Gershon Tenenbaum and published by Meyer & Meyer Verlag. This book was released on 2005 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The handbook consists of a solid theoretical and scientific rationale that is presented in a simple language, which both the beginning and advanced students can understand. It also presents a balance between quantitative and qualitative methods of research and analysis, and advocates for problem-focused methodology and mixed design when the questions asked by the researcher or the scientists require doing so. The most distinctive feature of the book is that the contents are presented in a hierarchy in terms of complexity. Therefore, the handbook can be used for teaching simple topics such as asking questions that deserve scientific methods of investigation, and simple statistical techniques, as well as complex multivariate methods of inquiry. The mathematical terms are presented in symbols and graphs only when the concepts were clarified in a simple language and friendly manner. Each of the chapters develops in a clear and sequential order, so that students and researchers accumulate knowledge based on concept mapping rather than memorization. The didactics of the book enable the learner to carry over the learning contents to other courses and apply them to other domains of interest.
