It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Book The Science of English Verse Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Science of English Verse Classic Reprint written by Sidney Lanier and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Science of English Verse If Puttenham in the sixteenth century could wish to make the art of poetry "vulgar for all English men's use," such a desire in the nineteenth must needs become a religious aspiration. For under our new dispensation the preacher must soon be a poet, as were the preachers before him under the old. To reach an audience of a variety so prodigious as to range from the agnostic to the devotee, no forms of less subtlety than those of tone can be effective. A certain wholly unconscious step already made in this direction by society gives a confirmation of fact to this view which perhaps no argument can strengthen: I mean the now common use of music as a religious art. Music already occupies one end of the church: the same inward need will call poetry to the other. How the path of spiritual development which has arrived at the former phenomenon must presently reach the latter will appear more clearly in the course of the demonstration to follow, which gives an account of the true relations between music and verse. Book The Ocean the Bird and the Scholar

Download or read book The Ocean the Bird and the Scholar written by Helen Vendler and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2015-05-11 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Times Higher Education Book of the Week One of our foremost commentators on poetry examines the work of a broad range of nineteenth- and twentieth-century English, Irish, and American poets. The Ocean, the Bird, and the Scholar gathers two decades’ worth of Helen Vendler’s essays, book reviews, and occasional prose—including the 2004 Jefferson Lecture—in a single volume. “It’s one of [Vendler’s] finest books, an impressive summation of a long, distinguished career in which she revisits many of the poets she has venerated over a lifetime and written about previously. Reading it, one can feel her happiness in doing what she loves best. There is scarcely a page in the book where there isn’t a fresh insight about a poet or poetry.” —Charles Simic, New York Review of Books “Vendler has done perhaps more than any other living critic to shape—I might almost say ‘create’—our understanding of poetry in English.” —Joel Brouwer, New York Times Book Review “Poems are artifacts and [Vendler] shows us, often thrillingly, how those poems she considers the best specimens are made...A reader feels that she has thoroughly absorbed her subjects and conveys her understanding with candor, clarity, wit.” —John Greening, Times Literary Supplement

Book A Handbook of Poetics for Students of English Verse Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Handbook of Poetics for Students of English Verse Classic Reprint written by Francis Barton Gummere and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of Poetics, for Students of English Verse Tms book is published in the belief that many teachers have felt the lack of a concise and systematic statement of the principles of poetry. Such text-books are taught with good result in German schools, and are intended to simplify, not to complicate, the study of literature. The greater part of the literature taught in our schools and colleges is in verse; but, in too many cases, the scholar studies poems without having acquired any definite and compact knowledge of the science of poetry. This Handbook of Poetics is meant to aid the teacher in laying so necessary a foundation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
