Book The School Room Guide to Methods of Teaching and School Management Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The School Room Guide to Methods of Teaching and School Management For the fifth time an entirely new set of plates has been made for this volume. The advantage of such large sale as to make this possible is nowhere more manifest than in a book of methods. Whatever it may have been in the past, the teaching of to-day is progressive, and the methods of 1877 are not altogether the methods of 1894. Particularly in Drawing and in Penmanship has such advance been made that it seemed necessary to have those chapters entirely rewritten. Of the new chapters it need only be said that they have been prepared respectively by Mrs. Mary Dana Hicks of Boston; and by Charles E. Wells, author of the Movement Method of Penmanship. We have also substituted for the Geography of North America prepared by Mr. DeGraff an entirely new chapter, condensed from the admirable works of Prof. Meiklejohn, and in accord with the most approved modern method of teaching. Except in these three chapters, the changes are mainly of arrangement. The book was originally made up of the authors notes as an institute conductor, and hence contained many repetitions. Download or read book Class Room Method and Management Classic Reprint written by George Herbert Betts and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Class-Room Method and Management The aim of education, and hence of any subject in the curriculum, is to be defined in terms (1) of fruitful knowl edge, (2) right attitudes, (3) applied skills. Hence the question for each subject becomes how to select, organize and present such material as will result in the desired knowl edge, attitudes and skills. The answer to this problem for any particular subject constitutes its method. From this point of view method becomes very definite and concrete, and its application to school-room practise very immediate and Specific. Part II builds on the foundations already laid and out lines the method of the elementary subjects. In each case it asks the question (1) what is the aim of this branch - what fruitful knowledge, what helpful attitudes, what applied skills should it give the child; (2) what particular subject matter must be used to accomplish these aims; (3) how shall I organise and teach this material to reach the desired aim. In answering these questions there has been an attempt to avoid mere dogmatism and to use the best current points of view in education. Book Classroom Organization and Control Classic Reprint

Download or read book Classroom Organization and Control Classic Reprint written by Jesse Brundage Sears and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Classroom Organization and Control The management of a school is a many-sided problem, lying, roughly speaking, between the intimate details of teaching method at the one extreme, and the coarser ad justments of administration and supervision at the other. As the term implies, the task is essentially an executive one the manager, that is, the teacher or the principal, being a director of the activities of children in their pursuit of an education. The functions of this teacher executive are not only to direct; she must also formulate much of the policy she is to execute. To do this she must have some knowledge of the essential working principles upon which organization and management rest. These principles have been set forth in this book, not so much as a theoretical treatise, but rather by showing, as concretely as possible, how such principles are to operate among the plain practical facts which are to be dealt with in actual school situations. It is assumed that in managing a school the first step is a clear aim; the second, carefully formulated plans; the third, execution; the fourth, evaluation of results. Thus, by implication, it is demanded of school managers that they shall take a critical attitude toward their work, and dismiss the idea that experience is all that counts in preparation. Book School Management and Methods of Instruction

Download or read book School Management and Methods of Instruction written by George Collar and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from School Management and Methods of Instruction: With Special Reference to Elementary Schools In times past it was considered that the chief, and indeed almost the only, qualification necessary in a teacher was a knowledge of the subject to be taught. A knowledge of child nature and of the principles of the working of the mind was not considered at all essential. The tendency of the present day is to go to the other extreme, and regard a knowledge of psychology as being the only qualification that a teacher should bring to his work. The correct view seems to be that the ideal teacher should not only be well versed in the subjects he is required to teach and in the principles of psychology, but should also have studied the relation of subject-matter to mind. He should have considered carefully the effects that the subject is calculated to have in the development of the pupil's mind, and how the subject may best be divided up and presented so as to produce those effects.
