Book The Saracen s Codex

Download or read book The Saracen s Codex written by Nader Akbari and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-02-17 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islam today is one of the biggest challenges Europe is facing, not only because of the security issues caused by Islamic terrorism, but also because of the nonintegration policy of Muslim immigrants and communities, which, in the near future, will entangle European citizens in cultural conflicts within their own societies. Many non-Muslim European citizens and residents are sending the clear message to the Muslim communities that, in a modern twenty-first-century society, their Islamic and sharia way of thinking is unacceptable. Generation after generation, Muslims with their Muslim mentality systematically destroyed their own pre-Islamic cultures and civilizations, converted their countries into cultural wastelands without any hope of progress, all because they were forced or preferred to be Muslim. Massive Muslim immigration and the resulting fast-growing population has already started the same process in Europe and the rest of what we call the free world. We are living in the same Europe where the Renaissance put an end to the Inquisition and the rule of the Church, but today many do not realize that they are opening the way to a fascism called Islam that is many times more violent and inquisitorial than the practices of the medieval Christian Church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mirage of the Saracen analyzes the growth of monasticism and Christian settlements in the Sinai Peninsula through the early seventh century C.E. Walter D. Ward examines the ways in which Christian monks justified occupying the Sinai through creating associations between Biblical narratives and Sinai sites while assigning uncivilized, negative, and oppositional traits to the indigenous nomadic population, whom the Christians pejoratively called "Saracens." By writing edifying tales of hostile nomads and the ensuing martyrdom of the monks, Christians not only reinforced their claims to the spiritual benefits of asceticism but also provoked the Roman authorities to enhance defense of pilgrimage routes to the Sinai. When Muslim armies later began conquering the Middle East, Christians also labeled these new conquerors as Saracens, connecting Muslims to these pre-Islamic representations. This timely and relevant work builds a historical account of interreligious encounters in the ancient world, showing the Sinai as a crucible for forging long-lasting images of both Christians and Muslims, some of which endure today.

Book The Routledge Handbook of the Mongols and Central Eastern Europe

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of the Mongols and Central Eastern Europe written by Alexander V. Maiorov and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-25 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of the Mongols and Central-Eastern Europe offers a comprehensive overview of the Mongols’ military, political, socio-economic and cultural relations with Central and Eastern European nations between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. The Mongol Empire was the largest contiguous land empire in history, and one which contributed to the establishment of political, commercial and cultural contacts between all Eurasian regions. The Golden Horde, founded in Eastern Europe by Chinggis Khan’s grandson, Batu, in the thirteenth century, was the dominant power in the region. For two hundred years, all of the countries and peoples of Central and Eastern Europe had to reckon with a powerful centralized state with enormous military potential. Some chose to submit to the Mongols whilst others defended their independence, but none could avoid the influence of this powerful empire. In this book, twenty-five chapters examine this crucial period in Central-Eastern European history, including trade, confrontation, and cultural and religious exchange between the Mongols and their neighbours. This book will be an essential reference for scholars and students of the Mongols, as well those interested in the political, social and economic history of medieval Central-Eastern Europe.

This book was released on 2021-10-25 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Nicholas of Cusa A Companion to his Life and his Times

Download or read book Nicholas of Cusa A Companion to his Life and his Times written by Morimichi Watanabe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a guide to the life, thought and activities of Nicholas of Cusa (1401-1464), the great fifteenth-century philosopher, theologian, jurist, author of mystical and ecclesiastical treatises, cardinal and reformer. It is intended not only for advanced scholars, but also for beginners and those simply curious about a man who has been called 'one of the greatest Germans of the fifteenth century' and a 'medieval thinker for the modern age'. The book provides a series of detailed but readable essays on ideas, persons, and places, a work developed over the course of nearly three decades. First, it contains articles on the important events and concepts that affected Cusanus--philosophical, religious, intellectual and political. Then it turns to his precursors and contemporaries, both friendly and critical. These include philosophers, theologians, politicians, and canon lawyers. And third, the book follows the footsteps of the man from Kues and examines various sites where he lived, studied, or visited. Because the author has also visited many of these sites, he can contribute personal observations to enliven the journey. To add to the book's usefulness as a resource and reference tool, each entry is followed by a bibliography containing both recent and older works. The purpose of the volume is to gain a greater appreciation of Cusanus and his legacy by striving for a total view of his thought and experience instead of narrowly focusing on specific philosophical, theological or intellectual ideas, or certain periods of his activities in isolation from other facets of this compelling figure.
