Book Handbook of Gold Exploration and Evaluation

Download or read book Handbook of Gold Exploration and Evaluation written by Eoin Macdonald and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-02-21 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for geologists and engineers engaged specifically in the search for gold deposits of all types and as a reference for academics in higher schools of learning, Handbook of gold exploration and evaluation provides principles and detailed explanations that underpin the correct interpretation of day-to-day experience in the field. Problems are addressed with regard to the analysis, interpretation and understanding of the general framework within which both primary and secondary gold resources are explored, developed and exploited. Handbook of gold exploration and evaluation covers a comprehensive range of topics including the nature and history of gold, geology of gold ore deposits, gold deposition in the weathering environment, sedimentation and detrital gold, gold exploration, lateritic and placer gold sampling, mine planning and practise for shallow deposits, metallurgical processes and design, and evaluation, risk and feasibility. Covers the nature and history of gold Addresses problems with regard to the framework in which gold resources are explored, developed and exploited Discusses topics including the geology of gold ore deposits, metallurgical processes and design, evaluation, risk and feasibility

Book Artisanal Small Scale Gold Mining

Download or read book Artisanal Small Scale Gold Mining written by Katherine von Stackelberg and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2022-06-13 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This framework document provides a pragmatic approach for designing representative studies and developing uniform sampling guidelines to support estimates of morbidity that are explicitly linked to exposure to land-based contaminants from small-scale artisanal gold mining activities. A primary goal is to support environmental burden of disease evaluations, which attempt to attribute health outcomes to specific sources of pollution. The guidelines provide recommendations on the most appropriate and cost-effective sampling and analysis methods to ensure the collection of representative population-level data, sample size recommendations for each contaminant and environmental media, biological sampling data, household survey data, and health outcome data. This framework focuses on small-scale artisanal gold mining (ASGM) activities that are known to use and generate mercury (Hg) as well as other metals, such as arsenic (As) and lead (Pb), depending on the specific ores being mined. A particular concern with Hg is the conversion to methylmercury (MeHg) in aquatic environments, leading to bioaccumulation and biomagnification in fish that may be locally consumed. Exposure to Hg, MeHg, and Pb are strongly associated with neurodevelopmental health outcomes in children. Exposure to Hg and MeHg are also associated with neurological illnesses in adults. Exposures to Pb are associated with renal outcomes in children and adults, and cardiovascular outcomes in adults. Exposure to As are associated with neurodevelopmental health outcomes in children, arsenicosis and skin disorders in children and adults, and potential cancers in adults, including skin, bladder, and lung. The primary objective of this framework is to guide research to assess the relationship between environmental contamination, exposures, and health outcomes related to a subset of contaminants originating from ASGM activities for particularly vulnerable populations (such as children) and the general population within a single household in the vicinity of ASGM sites in low- and medium-income countries. To achieve this objective, biomonitoring and health outcome data are linked to household survey and environmental data (for example, soil, dust, water, agricultural products, fish) at the individual level from an exposed population compared to individuals from an unexposed (reference) population. Data on exposures and health outcomes in the same individual across a representative set of individuals is required to support an understanding of the potential impact of ASGM activities on local populations. These guidelines can also assist in building local capacity to conduct environmental assessments following a consistent methodology to facilitate comparability across ASGM sites in different geographic areas. Sampling strategies and methods are prioritized given information needs, resource availability, and other constraints or considerations. The framework includes a number of supporting appendixes that provide additional resources and references on relevant topics.

Book Essentials for a Preliminary Report on a Small Lode gold Mine Or Prospect with Notes on Sampling

Download or read book Essentials for a Preliminary Report on a Small Lode gold Mine Or Prospect with Notes on Sampling written by Charles Will Wright and published by . This book was released on 1933 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper has been written to aid the owner of a small gold mine or prospect in preparing a report on his property for the purpose of interesting capital. If an owner can afford to do so, he should employ a mining engineer of recognized standing and experience to examine and report on his property, but many owners of small mines and particularly of prospects cannot make the expenditure required for this. Further, many of them do not know how to prepare a description which will cover those features of a deposit on which a potential investor promises his opinion as to its worth. If such an owner is convinced that he possesses and orebody of sufficient grade and size to warrant the required expenditure for a thorough investigation and wishes to present his property to prospective investors, then the following suggestions concerning the proper way to sample his deposit, estimate the tonnage of developed and probable ore, and prepare a report may be of assistance.

Book Sampling and Evaluation of an Alluvial Gold Project

Download or read book Sampling and Evaluation of an Alluvial Gold Project written by Tracey Whitbourn and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The aim of the project was to determine the ore reserve of an alluvial gold mine situated at Amphitheatre, 80 km from Ballarat. The ore reserve was calculated using a geostatistics program called Geopack as well as a classical method known as Random Stratified Grid estimation. Throughout the life of the project, a drilling pattern was designed and drilled, with sampling of 50 samples following the drilling stage. This sampling, along with previous assay data, formed the orebody data used for the estimation calculations. Harvard Graphics was used to illustrate the cross sections of each drill hole for future reference. The ore reserve was calculated to be 1,136,249 bcm with a grade of 489 mg/bcm. This should extend the life of the mine by at least six months, which was the intended purpose of the calculation" -- Abstract/Synopsis.
