Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soul by Soul tells the story of slavery in antebellum America by moving away from the cotton plantations and into the slave market itself, the heart of the domestic slave trade. Taking us inside the New Orleans slave market, the largest in the nation, where 100,000 men, women, and children were packaged, priced, and sold, Walter Johnson transforms the statistics of this chilling trade into the human drama of traders, buyers, and slaves, negotiating sales that would alter the life of each. What emerges is not only the brutal economics of trading but the vast and surprising interdependencies among the actors involved.

Book Singing in My Soul

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jerma A. Jackson
  • Publisher : Univ of North Carolina Press
  • Release : 2005-12-15
  • ISBN : 0807863610
  • Pages : 207 pages

Download or read book Singing in My Soul written by Jerma A. Jackson and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2005-12-15 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Black gospel music grew from obscure nineteenth-century beginnings to become the leading style of sacred music in black American communities after World War II. Jerma A. Jackson traces the music's unique history, profiling the careers of several singers--particularly Sister Rosetta Tharpe--and demonstrating the important role women played in popularizing gospel. Female gospel singers initially developed their musical abilities in churches where gospel prevailed as a mode of worship. Few, however, stayed exclusively in the religious realm. As recordings and sheet music pushed gospel into the commercial arena, gospel began to develop a life beyond the church, spreading first among a broad spectrum of African Americans and then to white middle-class audiences. Retail outlets, recording companies, and booking agencies turned gospel into big business, and local church singers emerged as national and international celebrities. Amid these changes, the music acquired increasing significance as a source of black identity. These successes, however, generated fierce controversy. As gospel gained public visibility and broad commercial appeal, debates broke out over the meaning of the music and its message, raising questions about the virtues of commercialism and material values, the contours of racial identity, and the nature of the sacred. Jackson engages these debates to explore how race, faith, and identity became central questions in twentieth-century African American life.

Book Selling With Heart and Soul

Download or read book Selling With Heart and Soul written by Leow Chee Seng and published by Human Behaviour Academy. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Selling With Heart and Soul is part of the Body Language Series which focuses on the selling process and how a sales people could benefit from the cues and signals shown by customers in order to close sales. The uniqueness of this book, that we have pointed out the totally misleading and wrong concept in selling and marketing - the Caveat Emptor. In any transaction, sales people cannot shed off their responsibilities by passing the act of discovery to the buyers, sales people must declare according to what they know. If the sellers do not believe in their products, do not sell it until they understood, internalize the products. In addition, this book suggests that marketers and sales people cannot be the tool to create unnecessary demand. One of the extremely wrong concepts of marketing is to push to consumers’ good/service beyond their needs. We have identified that, create unnecessary demand creating bad identity/brand to the organisation.

Book Treasure A Soul Journey With The Invisible

Download or read book Treasure A Soul Journey With The Invisible written by Karen Williams and published by Book Venture Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2018-12-31 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TREASURE is the true story of how the iconic fable The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho psychically predicted the future, and what would happen to Karen Williams in real life. This was at a time when Karen had never heard of Coelho’s famous book. It is a story about the passion for a dream, and how this passion revealed to Karen the language of signs and coincidences which the spiritual realm uses to speak to each of us. Living in Andalusia in southern Spain in the 1990s, Karen dreams of finding and living from her soul. One night, after visiting her favourite ruin, she has a dream in which she is reborn and with this her soul quest begins. Just as in Coelho’s The Alchemist it takes her to Tarifa and Tangiers, and then through a metaphorical desert, finally ending at a place of pyramids as she searches for her treasure. But, this is only just the beginning of a truly supernatural odyssey which goes on for another 18 years. In that time Karen dedicates her whole being to the slow, and sometimes incredibly painful unraveling of the real meaning of the allegory known to millions as The Alchemist. What she discovers is far deeper and more transcendental than she ever imagined and touches the lives of all of us who now stand at the beginning of a new millennium hoping for a new world and a new dawn.
