Book excerpt: ***Originally published under the title Snatched*** Linc Harris found a home at Haven MC, one that came with men whom he was honored to call his brothers. The club has suffered from some internal issues, and it is time to put them to rest and set Haven on a new path. But in doing so, Moose’s past, one he thought he had neatly tucked away, is brought front and center. It isn’t one he really ever wanted to let go of; it was just one he’d hoped to settle when he was ready. Kathryn Stevens has reached her dream of becoming a doctor, and she did it even while putting her heart back together. She refuses to allow anyone in who could open those wounds again, so when she is targeted to be used as a pawn, she gets the opportunity to test her resolve. But she is the first to admit that the man who caused her to even implement the resolve—is the only one she would trust to save her. Join the men of Haven MC as they prove that not only should you never judge a book by its cover, you shouldn’t judge men for the sole fact they ride Harleys and wear leather.

Book The Travels of David Thompson

Download or read book The Travels of David Thompson written by Sean T. Peake and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At age 75, David Thompson began to write about his life of exploration and surveying in western North America from 1784 to 1812. At this point, how-ever, the odds of finishing were slim; his eyesight was failing, his body was worn out after years of strain on portages and mountain passes. For five years he toiled with rewrites and revisions, never able to set the final account in order. On 16 January 1851 he put his "papers to right" in one last attempt to finish his work. By 28 February 1851, no longer able to see, he gave up his pen as well as any hope of completing his Travels. Like a true surveyor, though, he left a well-blazed trail for others to follow. Drawing from the four surviving manuscripts and Thompson's 77 notebooks filled with daily journals, reports, essays, and anecdotes, Sean Peake finished what Thompson set out to achieve: a full account that encompasses the "extent of the forests, of the great Plains, the animals, birds, fishes &c &c peculiar to each section; the various tribes of Indians which inhabit these countries, their several languages, their religious opinions, manners and mode of life, place and extent of hunting grounds, and the changes which have taken place, by the fortune of war or other causes... a curious and extensive collection of all that can fall under the observation of a traveller." This edition of The Travels of David Thompson is a landmark publication in Canadian history, fully deserving of a place on the bookshelf of anyone interested in a first-hand account of the tumultuous struggle for control of western North America.

Book The Hundred Loves of Juliet

Download or read book The Hundred Loves of Juliet written by Evelyn Skye and published by Del Rey. This book was released on 2024-05-07 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A writer who craves a real-life happily ever after and a gruff fisherman who doesn’t believe in them find out they’re part of the greatest love story of all time. “Cleverly imagines the epilogue Romeo and Juliet didn’t get to have, and how curses can be blessings in disguise.”—JODI PICOULT A POPSUGAR BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR After a bad breakup, Helene Janssen runs away to Alaska to find some peace and quiet. She’s been dreaming up bits and pieces of a novel for years and hopes to finally have time to write it. On her first night there, Helene meets Sebastien Montague, a crab fisherman who looks exactly like the hero in the book she’s working on. But how is that even possible? Sebastien seems to recognize Helene, too, but he lies about it and brushes her off, even though their chemistry is immediate and undeniable. This is because their love story defies the ages: She is Juliet, reincarnated, and he is Romeo, lost in time. And if Helene can convince Sebastien to give her a chance, maybe this time they can rewrite their ending and find a true happily-ever-after.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Britain's lynx are missing, and they have been for more than a thousand years. Why have they gone? And might they come back? Britain was a very different place 15,000 years ago – home to lions, lynx, bears, wolves, bison and many more megafauna. But as its climate changed and human populations expanded, most of early Britain's largest mammals disappeared. Will advances in science and technology mean that we can one day bring these mammals back? And should we? In The Missing Lynx, palaeontologist Ross Barnett uses case studies, new fossil discoveries and biomolecular evidence to paint a picture of these lost species and to explore the ecological significance of their disappearance. He discusses how the Britons these animals shared their lives with might have viewed them and investigates why some species survived while others vanished. Barnett also looks in detail at the realistic potential of reintroductions, rewilding and even of resurrection in Britain and overseas, from the successful return of beavers in Argyll to the revolutionary Pleistocene Park in Siberia, which has already seen progress in the revival of 'mammoth steppe' grassland. As widespread habitat destruction, climate change and an ever-growing human population lead us inexorably towards the sixth extinction, this timely book explores the spaces that extinction has left unfilled. And by helping us to understand why some of our most charismatic animals are gone, Ross Barnett encourages us to look to a brighter future, one that might see these missing beasts returned to the land on which they once lived and died.
