Download or read book Alexander the Great written by Charles N. Pope and published by DomainOfMan.com. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alexander the Great: Beyond the Divide, by Charles N. Pope not only “cuts the Gordian Knot” of Alexander research, but also unveils Alexander as the primary inspiration for Christ. Alexander was such a towering figure that at least some influence on emerging Christianity would be expected. However, upon closer inspection the parallels between Alexander and Jesus turn out to be both extensive and profound. Alexander the Great's birth had been "immaculately conceived" and then "celestially announced." He was a precocious youth that confounded his elders. He railed against conventional thinking (orthodoxy) and was revered everywhere, except by his own family and home town. His campaign began with a wedding. He cast out demons and was accused of having a demon. He fed the multitudes and spoke in parables. He was particularly fond of the mustard seed. He traveled incessantly. He prayed for those that spitefully used him. He walked on water and calmed the tempest. He was warned against entering his capital, but approached his prophesized demise with eager resolve. He was lifted up into the "heavens" and also descended to the "underworld." His higher calling was to attain a faraway kingdom, and one that could only be gained through a symbolic death and ascension. He comforted and later appeared to his followers. He moved mountains and enveloped those who believed in him from the onslaught of the godless. And the comparisons go on.

With the Canine Queen in labor, elfenchaun Dori and Aunt Maddie help deliver the royal puppies and hide them from the evil commander of the Geeks in Green, who wants the aliens for tortuous experiments. Using Uncle Horace's invention of portable cloaking devices, Ryan and his zany family sneak into GIG headquarters to foil this dastardly plan while the Blue-Haired Ladies stage a Nertz tournament as a distraction. STREET DOG DREAMS Rescued and bored, the Royal Canines dream of a new dogdom. The search takes Aunt Maddie and Uncle Horace to an abandoned village in Sardinia, Italy, where they become caught up in rescuing dogs captured by a crime lord who wants all the kibble for himself. Using a retro-fitted space ship, they work cheek to jowl with their niece, who walks the streets in a dog suit to rescue street dogs who dream of home and family. A passionate Sardinian actress joins the rescue efforts when her beloved poodle is dognapped. She rallies her show dog friends to send the crime boss to the dog house–er, prison–and give street dogs the loving homes of their dreams.

Book Societies of Wolves and Free ranging Dogs

Download or read book Societies of Wolves and Free ranging Dogs written by Stephen Spotte and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-03-15 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wolves are charismatic emblems of wilderness. Dogs, which descended from wolves, are models of urbanity. Do free-ranging dogs revert to pack living or are their societies only reminiscent of a wolfish heritage? Focusing on behavioral ecology, this is the first book to assess societies of both gray wolves and domestic dogs living as urban strays and in the feral state. It provides a comprehensive review of wolf genetics, particularly of New World wolves and their mixture of wolf, coyote and dog genomes. Spotte draws on the latest scientific findings across the specialized fields of genetics, sensory biology, reproductive physiology, space use, foraging ecology and socialization. This interdisciplinary approach provides a solid foundation for a startling and original comparison of the social lives of wolves and free-ranging dogs. Supplementary material, including a full glossary of terms, is available online at www.cambridge.org/9781107015197.

Book The African Wild Dog

Download or read book The African Wild Dog written by IUCN/SSC Candid Specialist Group and published by IUCN. This book was released on 1997 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last 30 years the African wild dog population has declined dramatically. Dogs have disappeared from 25 of the 39 countries where they were previously found, and only 6 populations are believed to number more than 100. Today it is believed that only between 3,000-5,500 dogs remain in 600-1,000 packs with most to be found in eastern and southern Africa. The dramatic reduction in their population is attributed to a number of factors including human population growth and activities, deterioration of habitat, and contact with domestic dogs and their diseases. This Action Plan explores some of the reasons behind their disappearance and provides a number of proposed solutions split into 3 priority areas, ranging from habitat management and conservation to monitoring domestic dogs.

Book DIRE ENCOUNTERS

Download or read book DIRE ENCOUNTERS written by Dolph C. Volker and published by Dolph C. Volker. This book was released on 2015-03-08 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was a time prior to the last Ice Age where mammalian mega fauna and jumbo flora dominated the landscape. Man was far from the dominant species on the planet. Unknown centuries had passed since the last of the up-rights had been eradicated or banished to the fringes of the great desert. History faded with time as well as the knowledge about the wars between the two factions; man and wolf. Some of the written history remained in the form of legendary petroglyphs and pictographs located inside primitive caves; dotting sporadically along the base of the northern and southern ranges of the Ormod Mountains. The writings recorded great battles between the species and even among themselves. What remained of the cave writings revealed a stagnation of war and hatred between Dire wolves and their enemy, the up-rights. No wolf knew why they were enemies of man, only that the ancient inscriptions publicized the hostilities between the species. Conflict was the only definable moment in their historical relationship. Pack leadership and the elders reinforced the lessons taught by the ancient writings that were scribed on the walls of their caves. Man was the enemy and there would be no reconciliation.
