Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this fictional novel is the adventurous career of Sam Adams, a talented individual who decided when he was a freshman in high school to pursue a career as a Civil Engineer. As a young adult he developed numerous sexually active relationships with young ladies who were definitely attracted to him. He in turn was also attracted to the young ladies, particularly Sue Hall, a strikingly beautiful statuesque blonde he met while he was on liberty during his Navy boot training. He soon discovered they shared many common interests and although he realized marriage was definitely out of the question at the present time, he vowed to keep in touch with her. Some three years later when they got together again, he knew he loved her so deeply that despite all of the romantic escapades he had enjoyed with other young ladies, none of them could hold a candle to Sue. Immediately after Sam completed college with a degree in Civil Engineering, they were married, a marriage that formed the foundation for a family of five talented children and Sam's career as a successful Civil Engineer. After a long successful career that included many large engineering projects in the western United States as well as overseas projects in Asia, Australia, and South America, Sam retired as the President of Hanover Engineering, one of the most efficient and prosperous global Civil Engineering firms in the world. Sam and Sue enjoyed many happy retirement years together as they spent their winters in their beautiful home overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the San Francisco Bay Area with all of the amenities of a great city and their spring, winter, and fall months on their Montana Ranch with the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains always in view.

Book The Bachelor and Spinster Ball

Download or read book The Bachelor and Spinster Ball written by Janet Gover and published by Headline. This book was released on 2011-07-07 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Join the guests at Australia's most infamous black-tie event, The Bachelor and Spinster Ball, in Janet Gover's life-affirming novel. The perfect read for fans of Jenny Colgan and Jo Thomas. Sexy Nick, feisty Bec and dreamy Hailey all grew up together in the tiny, one-horse town of Farwell Creek. In fact, Nick and Bec were the town's teen-dream couple, until Bec made a break for it and shook the small-town dust off her heels for the big-city lights. Now she's back - but Nick doesn't have romantic feelings for her any more ... does he? Sweet, idealistic Hailey is caught between her old friends, but has too many problems of her own to be able to worry about theirs. Devastated at the loss of her parents, who died in a crash a year earlier, she's too wrapped up in her own thoughts to even think about leaving town or finding love. It will take a devastating bush-fire, a black-tie ball under the stars, and a road-trip to help all three friends work out who and what they want - and what they need. What readers are saying about THE BACHELOR AND SPINSTER BALL: 'A story of rich emotions and strong relationships. A lovely, escapist read' 'Beautifully written, the characters are easy to identify with and the author's rich description of a small place in Australia made me want to go there!' 'I absolutely loved this book and how you get to see all sides of the story. A real romance - so brilliant'

Book Perilous Escapades

Download or read book Perilous Escapades written by Gary Hoppenstand and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2018-04-12 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adventure fiction is one of the easiest narrative forms to recognize but one of the hardest to define because of its overlap with many other genres. This collection of essays attempts to characterize adventure fiction through the exploration of key elements--such as larger-than-life characters and imperialistic ideas--in the genre's 19th- and 20th-century British and American works like The Scarlet Pimpernel by Orczy and Captain Blood by Sabatini. The author explores the cultural and literary impact of such works, presenting forgotten classics in a new light.

Book On Her Own Journalistic Adventures from San Francisco to the Chinese Revolution 1917 27

Download or read book On Her Own Journalistic Adventures from San Francisco to the Chinese Revolution 1917 27 written by Milly Bennett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-22 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in 1897, Milly Bennett lived an extraordinary life that led from her native San Francisco, to Honolulu, to China for the revolution, to the Soviet Union on the eve of World War II, to the Spanish Civil War, and home again, a journey punctuated with many love affairs, triumphs, and disappointments. This memoir of Milly's early years through her extended stay in China, places the current political turmoil there into a broader historical perspective. Nominally an autobiography of a remarkable woman and her brief time in China, it goes beyond the narration of an individual life by contributing details of a period of great instability, as well as exploring the sensitive topic of the involvement of foreigners in the internal politics of China.

Book excerpt: From the Booker Prize–winning author of The Famished Road, a classic story of doomed love in a country trying to come to terms with its violent past. An epic of daily life, Dangerous Love is one of Ben Okri’s most accessible and most disarming novels. Omovo is an office worker and artist who lives at home with his father and his father’s second wife. In the communal world of the compound in which he lives, Omovo has both friends and enemies, but his most important relationship is with Ifeyiwa, a beautiful young married woman whom he loves with an almost hopeless passion—not because she doesn’t return his love, but because they can never be together. Against the backdrop of Nigeria’s civil war, Ben Okri creates an atmosphere where passion takes on a wholly different dimension as danger, greed, hunger, and betrayal loom at every turn.
