Book My Mechanical Romance

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Opposites attract in this nerdy YA romance from the NYT best-selling author of The Atlas Six! "It’s rom-com perfection."—Adiba Jaigirdar, author of The Henna Wars Bel doesn't want to think about the future. College apps? You’re funny. Extracurriculars? Not a chance. Joining a robotics club filled with boys who ignore her or--even worse--constantly ask if she needs help? Please, anything but that. But when she accidentally reveals a talent for engineering in class, she has no choice. Enter Mateo Luna, the handsome captain of the club. Teo instantly recognizes Bel's talent. He needs her on the team. And not just because he can't stop thinking about the tiny dusting of freckles around her eyes, or how she got him hooked on Taylor Swift--it's because Bel sees him. She challenges him. But when they seriously start butting heads, Bel wonders: Is there really room for a girl like her in STEM? In her YA debut, Alexene Farol Follmuth, author of The Atlas Six (under the penname Olivie Blake), explores both the challenges girls of color face in STEM and the vulnerability of first love with unfailing wit and honesty. Told from dual points of view, My Mechanical Romance is not only swoonworthy--it's downright empowering. Book The Romance of Engineering

Download or read book The Romance of Engineering written by Charles Joseph Tilden and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Romance of Engineering The remarkable and rapid development of modern engineering has brought many of its more dramatic phases into public light. Artists, both with pen and pencil, have made use of the opportunities offered, and stories have been written and pictures painted in which the central feature of the composition is some engineering creation, either of fact or of imagination. Many of Kipling's stories, as for example "The Bridge Builders" and ".007," are striking bits of romance, with singular truthfulness of detail, in the field of modern engineering, and Pennell's sketches of the Panama Canal throw a new and most interesting light on that great work. The subject of this afternoon's talk is not, however, modern engineering, except in so far as it is a development, just as every human activity must be, out of the inspiration and the efforts of men of past ages, but rather a glimpse at two or three periods of history of which there is record of engineering endeavor. An interesting factor, at once suggested by these considerations, is that of time, and an effort is made to show this time factor in its relation to these periods of engineering activity, with especial reference to one phase of this activity in the Romance period. Now, an engineer prefers to express his ideas, whenever possible, by means of a drawing or diagram, and so an attempt has been made in the accompanying chart* to show graphically this time relation of historical events. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Romance of Engineering: Stories of the Highway, the Waterway, the Railway, and the Subway It was inevitable that the writer of this volume, while passing over some old ground, in his search for the Sources of Information, should have occasionally struck into the channels formed by his predecessors, while projecting a line of his own. But the Author can conscientiously declare that he has at all times penetrated to the fountain-head for his facts, and has not tapped the reservoirs of others on his way. In any instances in which the opinions or views of writers are quoted, due acknowledgment is made in the text or by notes. This volume, as its title indicates, is a Romance of Engineering; a consideration of the non-technical and anecdotal aspect of road-making, railway-making, and other early Engineering Works. It is not intended, primarily, for students, but for the large classes of youthful and middle-aged readers who desire to know something of the means in the past which have tended to secure the civilization of the present. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Romance of Engineering At every point of operation a good engineer will use to the best advantage possible, the' materials and facilities for his work found at hand for the time being; and this is what the Romans did. Not having cast'iron pipes, they builded as could best be done without them, and were we deprived of cast iron, wrought iron, and steel pipes, we should to-day be obliged to build water works pretty much as they built them.
