But having been for a considerable time past engaged in the administration of hydropathic appliances, and various kinds Of medicated baths, together with the Roman or Turkish Bath, and finding that the general public - and even many Of my medical brethren - are either ill-informed or apathetic and indifferent with re gard to the last of these, I feel constrained to come for ward, however reluctantly, to explain what a Turkish Bath really is, and what it is fitted to accomplish when judiciously administered. It is well known that there is the utmost difficulty in inducing mankind to judge of things upon their own intrinsic merits. They will not undergo the lahom and trouble Of examining matters for themselves, but on all occasions prefer going on as their fathers did before them, and have no tolerance for those who endeavour to lead them from the beaten track to which they have been accustomed. In their eyes, it is enough to con demn the most valuable discovery, that the sin Of novelty attaches to it. Hence the apostle of reformation Often dies as a martyr to it, and seals with his blood those truths that are fraught with blessings to future genera tions.
