His prayer is answered when a stranger comes along and saves him—and now it looks like he has to hold up his end of the bargain. The stranger turns out to be a firefighter named Zach, who's in need of some serious romantic help. If Ambrose can just bring Zach together with Merilee, the nice lady who works at Pet Palace, it's bound to earn him a healthy ninth life. Unfortunately for Ambrose, his mission is a lot harder than he ever thought. Now it's going to take all of Ambrose's feline wiles—and maybe even a good old fashioned Christmas miracle—to make them both realize that what they're looking for is right in front of their eyes.

Book Twentieth Century English History Plays

Download or read book Twentieth Century English History Plays written by Niloufer Harben and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988-03-29 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history play is an extremely popular genre among English playwrights of this century, yet very little research has been done in the field. In particular, the sheer size and complexity of the subject appears to have prevented critics from attempting to arrive at a clear definition of the genre. This book examines the term 'history play' afresh, seeking to define more precisely the scope and the limits of the genre in relation to twentieth-century ideas of and attitudes to history.

Book Inhabited Spaces

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nicole Guenther Discenza
  • Publisher : University of Toronto Press
  • Release : 2017-01-18
  • ISBN : 148751154X
  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book Inhabited Spaces written by Nicole Guenther Discenza and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2017-01-18 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We tend to think of early medieval people as unsophisticated about geography because their understandings of space and place often differed from ours, yet theirs were no less complex. Anglo-Saxons conceived of themselves as living at the centre of a cosmos that combined order and plenitude, two principles in a constant state of tension. In Inhabited Spaces, Nicole Guenther Discenza examines a variety of Anglo-Latin and Old English texts to shed light on Anglo-Saxon understandings of space. Anglo-Saxon models of the universe featured a spherical earth at the centre of a spherical universe ordered by God. They sought to shape the universe into knowable places, from where the earth stood in the cosmos, to the kingdoms of different peoples, and to the intimacy of the hall. Discenza argues that Anglo-Saxon works both construct orderly place and illuminate the limits of human spatial control.

Book Lessons from Little Rock

Download or read book Lessons from Little Rock written by Terrance Roberts and published by University of Arkansas Press. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sober news reports of a U.S. Army convoy rumbling across the bridge into Little Rock cannot overpower this intimate, powerful, personal account of the integration of Little Rock Central High School. Showing what it felt like to be one of those nine students who wanted only a good high school education, Roberts’s rich narrative and candid voice take readers through that rocky year, helping us realize that the historic events of the Little Rock integration crisis happened to real people—to children, parents, our fellow citizens.

Book Custom and Commercialisation in English Rural Society

Download or read book Custom and Commercialisation in English Rural Society written by J. Bowen and published by Univ of Hertfordshire Press. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English rural society underwent fundamental changes between the thirteenth and eighteenth centuries with urbanization, commercialization and industrialization producing new challenges and opportunities for inhabitants of rural communities. However, our understanding of this period has been shaped by the compartmentalization of history into medieval and early-modern specialisms and by the debates surrounding the transition from feudalism to capitalism and landlord-tenant relations. Inspired by the classic works of Tawney and Postan, this collection of essays examines their relevance to historians today, distinguishing between their contrasting approaches to the pre-industrial economy and exploring the development of agriculture and rural industry; changes in land and property rights; and competition over resources in the English countryside.
